Chapter 1

I watched from a dark corner, as King Zen Lotus stood in front of my parents and I knew that today would be a very bad day for the Trinity Family. King Zen's face was set in deep and angry scowl. He took a deep breath and said, "You realize you have committed a form of treason by stealing from the royal treasury? Even if you are from the Trinity Family, I still have to give you a trial and you will be given a punishment for what you have done."

My parents looked at one another and seemed to communicate without words. The exchange took less than a minute and my father said, "We understand where you are coming from. We will except any punishment you deem fit for us, Your Majesty." He bowed while my mother curtsied to the king.

I was finally called to the parlor for a family discussion about four hours later. My two siblings were already present and there was an attendant of the king in the room. I sat on the chair to the side of my siblings where they sat on the two-seater couch. My parents were in front of them and the King's attendant pulled out the King's proclamation. "On this day the Trinity Family must undergo the task of," the attendant paused for dramatic effect, "Killing the Ever Serpent! The task may be failed after the loss of one person's life. If it is a fail, then the Trinity family will have to summit 10,000 platinum coins to the royal treasury within two days."

My parents were shocked at the task we would need to complete or have someone die trying. They soon let the attendant out and then called out for their bookkeeper. They started to get the money from their safes and counting until they had enough to pay when they failed the task. I knew that my parents and siblings didn't know how to fight so they wouldn't be able to fight the Ever Serpent. Not to mention that the Ever Serpent is known as an immortal animal that is known for its deadly poisons. I have a secret however, I'm immune to poison. That made the fact that my parents were probably going to kick me into the Serpent house to fight and in their eyes die. My parents didn't look at me with hope and praise like my elder siblings. I was always in the background for them and they liked it that way. I finally accept that I'm not like the rest of my family and I would never be like them because they were idiots. I found out about a week ago that every member of the family was taking from the royal treasury so that they could get new clothing without having to use the family riches. That is why the king was angry and why I'll have to fight so I might as well get my weapons to hunt the Serpent.

I left to my room where I found my sword and dagger which I had trained with undercover of darkness so I wouldn't attract attention to myself in high society. I put on the scabbards and made sure they were secure on my waist and the inside of my thigh. I was wondering when my parents would call for us to head to the trial, but I decided to go to the front of the house early so that they didn't have to wait. Within ten minutes of me siting in the front lobby they came and called for my elder siblings. Jenna arrived first and she was wearing a gown that kind of made her look good. She has always been focused on her looks and wanted to get the title of Capital's number one beauty. (Side note, she is not and probably never will be the most beautiful in the capital.) Next my brother Brandon came, and he looked sharp in his suit which I knew cost 200 platinum coins. That was excessively expensive, but my parents started complimenting him on his taste. A couple minutes later our butler came in and told us that the carriage was ready. We set out to the task that would determine the fate of my family.

Hopefully if everything goes well, I might be able to leave these idiots and live by myself. I would only know after the task finished. Two hours later, we arrived at the barrier that kept the Ever Serpent in. The magic that was used for this was 200 platinum coins every three months which kind of tells how excessive my brother was with money.

I stepped up to the barrier and I felt a push behind me. I knew this was going to happen and I thought I was prepared but this was even worse than I thought. I was still on the edge of the barrier when I turned back after picking myself up off the ground and I saw my family leaving. They didn't care if I survived or died.
