5 Chapter 5 Ounce of dignity

"Wake up!" the officer yelled and he threw clothes at her before saying," They brought you those and that breakfast." When he left, Li Fei looked at the packed food and tea and she instantly knew that it was her mother who had brought her favorite food.

She immediately dug in since she was so hungry. But as she was eating, she glanced at the corner of her cell and saw a girl who seemed to be slightly younger than her staring at her intently. She wondered when she was brought in because she slept alone here. "You want some?" she asked and the girl nodded immediately.

Eating a little bit more, she gave the remaining food to her and the girl started devouring the food without bothering to thank her but Li Fei didn't mind it.

When the guard came back, Li Mei looked at him expectantly and asked," Where's she?" "As I said Miss, you can't see her. I delivered her things," he simply stated. Li Bao nearly lost it and snapped," We are entitled to meeting our daughter. Let us see her." "Mr Li, you won't be seeing her. We are only following precautions," he said and proceeded to his work. A long while later, the Li family was called to the Magistrate's office and they were informed that their daughter's trial was in two days. They were surprised but at the same time, relieved that their daughter was going to leave this rathole.

As they were driving back, Li Mei stated," Bao, what are we going to do? You failed to contact Mr Jin or the girl's family. My FeiFei can't go to prison. I will die." "I have tried everything I can Mei. I have used all my friends but we have failed to reach Mr Jin. I was just told that today morning a number of our investors pulled out their money. We only have one option left," said Li Bao. "And what is that?"

"To wait for the judge read her sentence and then find ways of getting her out of prison by either speaking with the girl's parents or making her escape from there. We shall figure out something, but right now, we're stranded. Hu Feng and his family are also trying what they can." Li Mei kept quiet and the thought of her daughter being sentenced to prison didn't sit well with her but did they have any option, no.

She decided to also figure out something by seeking help from her friends. The moment she went to social media, she gasped at the information she saw. "What's the matter?" asked Bao who was driving. "Everything is out now!! The news of Li Fei killing a pregnant woman is everywhere and the video also! My daughter's career!" she sobbed as she murmered. "What?!! But who did that? I thought we agreed not to let this issue reach Beijing?" Li Bao couldn't believe it.

"I don't know either. Everyone is judging my daughter as if they don't make mistakes," she said as she scrolled down the comments. Given Li Fei's character, most if not all of them were cursing her, saying that she's arrogant and that she deserves a severe punishment. Some were even saying that she deserved death penalty.

"I don't know what is happening to us lately. First Li Fei knocks down someone, and now our company is losing many investors and now, the world knows everything," complained Li Bao.

Away from them in a quiet room, no sun rays were seen penetrating the tightly drawn curtains across the window. On a plush seat, Jin Liwei was sitting with a golden cremation urn in his hands. It was none other than Jin Shan's cremation. She had always wished to be cremated and then her ashes to be poured in the sea but he couldn't let go. If not for the thirst for revenge, he was sure that he would have joined her already. But he had to make the person who ripped them apart suffer. They had promised each other so many things. He placed the urn on the table and besides it, there was another small urn which had their baby's cremation.

Opening his laptop, he looked through the comments that the video had gotten, and all of them were cursing Li Fei. She had wounded so many people in the past, but he swore that this was going to be the last time for her. He checked the Li enterprises and saw that it was drastically falling. He was going to destroy Li Fei with no ounce of dignity left for her.

Laying on the cold floor for the third day, Li Fei was jolted up from sleep once again by the officer. He threw a set of clothes to her and said," Get dressed up! You are heading to your trial." With that, he left and Li Fei got up startled. Trial?!! She couldn't believe it. She wasn't ready at all. Did that mean that she was going to meet the woman's family? Won't they curse her? She had a number of thoughts running in her head. For the three days she had stayed here, she had not seen any of her family but the meals she got everyday assured her that they used to come and that they hadn't abandoned her. She decided to change the clothes as told, since she was alone in the cell. The other girl was taken away just yesterday.

A long while later, Li Fei was brought out dressed in black jeans and a casual white shirt matched with white sneakers. Her hair was tied into a messy bun. On moving out of the cell, handcuffs were put onto her hands before she was taken to the vehicle that was waiting outside. On reaching inside, she grew more nervous at the thought of facing the judge in court this being her first time. She wondered what her punishment was going to be because she was clearly guilty.
