223 Chapter 223 I'm a coward

The path was lit with candles on either sides and at it's end was a beautifully decorated gazebo. Subconsciously, a smile spread to her lips and she started taking small steps forward as she took in the details.

She found plenty of beautiful purple tulips and she inhaled in the scent. Standing infront of gazebo, she caught sight of the dishes that were laid on the table.

Being a rooftop, she felt the wind blowing and goosebumps crawled onto her skin. She rubbed her arms with her hands as she looked around for Jin Liwei.

Not long after, she was startled when she felt something drop on her shoulders and turned around immediately. Realizing that he had given her his jacket, she said," Thank you." She noticed that he was dressed in a maroon long sleeved shirt with the cufflinks she had gifted him.

"How do I look?" he asked. "Good," she replied looking away from him. "I'm glad you like it," he said. "I didn't say I like it," she said before adding, "I don't have much time. I think we should go straight to the point." "Let's first eat something. Please," he said. "I'm not hungry."

"Have a bite at least. I beg you," he repeated.

Walking to the gazebo, he pulled out a chair for her and she took a seat. Going to his side, he opened the dishes and looking at the mouth watering food, Li Fei's stomach growled loudly and he heard it. Her face turned red in embarrassment as she had said that she wasn't hungry. "I caught you," he teased and she blushed further.

On tasting the food, it was as delicious as it looked. She forgot about everything else and she devoured the food. Seeing her eating, it brought solace to his heart.

After the meal, he was going to open a drink for them when she said," I don't want to drink."

"That's what you said about the food too," he said looking at her. "I'm sure this time. I'm so full," she said and he nodded, placing back the bottle. "Thank you for coming and eating," he said. "Thank you for the food."

"The pleasure was mine," he replied and the staff came to take away the plates and cleared the table.

After much silence reigned between them, he placed his hands on top of hers which were on the table. She wanted to pull away but his grip was firm. "FeiFei," he called and she raised his eyes to meet his. "Please forgive me. It was my fault. Everything has always been my fault and I'm fully aware that I shouldn't be bothering you but you know what?" he asked and she only looked at him. He stood up and walked to her side then squatted right in front of her. He got her hand and placed it on his chest so that she could feel his pounding heart.

"You feel it? It doesn't listen. It beats for you however much I tell it not to. For it's sake, come back to me. Let's go wherever you want. If you want to stay here then so be it. But just, come back to me please," he said.

She tore her eyes away from him and said," Jin Liwei, you shouldn't worry. If you forgave me when you knew that I killed your wife, then who am I not to forgive you? I forgive you." A small smile appeared on his lips and he asked," Really?" "Yes. But we cannot get back together," she said and the smile on his lips disappeared in a flash.

"What do you mean by that Li Fei?" he asked.

"That I don't hate you or hold any grudge against you. On the contrary, I'm very appreciative for the time we spent together. I got to experience what love is. Thank you for everything. For loving me that much but I will stay with Jianyu. Maybe it is true that we were not meant to be."

Panic filled him and he cupped her face to make her look at him," Who told you to say that?! Is it your mother, or your brother? Or that man?" he asked.

"No. This is my own decision. They only told me the truth, and they let me decide."

She removed his hands from her face and she stood up then removed his jacket.

He followed suit and looked at her to ask," B-but why? You found out the truth. I've always loved you and I love you more than anything. I just thought you were too perfect for me. I thought I didn't deserve you because I hurt you so much- " "That is the problem Jin Liwei! You have never judged me for my horrible past, and what made you think that I would judge you? Even when you knew that I was responsible for your wife's death, you still loved me. What made you think that I would have a change of heart when you ignored all that? You acted so cowardly and you ruined what we had. Your cowardice cost us big time, Jin Liwei."

When she finished saying those words, tears were flowing from his eyes and he said," You're right. I'm a coward." "Yes you are. You know why? Because I stood against all odds, all my loved ones, for our sake. I defied my family, because of us. And what did you do?! You threw it away just because you faced a challenging situation.

I told you this multiple times that I don't regret ever meeting you and the way we met. Because those things you're feeling guilty for, are the same things that led me to you. We found love because of them" she said.

She later felt his hands on her legs and she looked to see that he was on his knees.

Her teary eyes met his teary ones and he said," I promise to become a better person from now on. But please, come back to me."
