20 Chapter 20 Seeing you behave like this

After listening to her conversation, Caihong admired her even more. Despite the condition she's in, she lied to her parents just to make them feel better. It seems like she had grown from an arrogant girl to a mature understanding lady. He was surprised when he learnt that she wasn't allowed to make phone calls and he assumed that it might be Jin Liwei's order. He hoped to see her again tomorrow.

Li Fei on the other side was so relieved to hear from her parents. She felt like a heavy burden has been lifted off her back when she learnt that they used to come but they were only being refused to see her. At some point she got scared thinking that they had also abandoned her. "You look lively, what's up?" Liling asked the moment she saw her. "I've just talked to my parents," she said excitedly. "Sure! They finally let you use the phone?" "No. The doctor assisted me with his," she said. "Doctor? Or was it a nurse?" asked Liling to clarify. "Doctor Caihong I think is his name," said Li Fei. "Doctor Caihong! How strange! He's known to be strict and distant towards prisoners," she said surprised. "Well, he helped me and he didn't seem to be bad at all. Can you imagine that my parents have been visiting but they couldn't let them see me?" she said. "Really? Why?" "I don't know. All they told them was that they were orders from above. I'm also beginning to think that what you said could be true because first, I'm not allowed to make phone calls and two, I'm not allowed to get visitors and now the issue with the head guard. But I'm wondering who it could be."

After thinking for a while, Liling said," I think it's either Mr Jin Liwei or the woman's parents." "You think so?" "Yes but I think Mr Jin Liwei is much more fitting because the Jins are the ones with such influence ," explained Liling. Li Fei felt her heart shudder at the thought. She just wished that it was just their assumption because if it was true, she doubted if she would be able to survive.

...

"Your parents have been calling me. Why don't you pick up their calls?" Jing Yue asked. Looking at him, Jin Liwei sighed before asking," What do they want?" "Asking about you of course," he said. "I don't want to see anyone right now. I will pay them a visit when I'm ready," he replied sipping on his drink. "Okay then. What's next? It's been a month Jin Liwei. When are you going to stop living like this?" asked Jing Yue. "I don't know Jing. You have no idea how it feels because you've never lost someone you love." "I'm not saying I understand how you feel but what I know is life has to go on. You've locked up yourself for a whole month. You're torturing that girl who is already serving her sentence. Do you think Shan is happy seeing you behave like this?" he asked. "Don't talk about that girl!!" he growled. "Fine, I'm sorry about that. But think of moving on," he said. Silence came in between as the two men drank a bottle after the other. A while later, Jin Liwei said," I will come back to the company in two weeks." Jing Yue was happy and relieved to hear that his friend had at least decided to work again.

....

A week later, Jin Liwei made way to his parents house. "You've finally remembered that you have parents?" Senior Jin scolded him the moment he came to the living room. "How are you feeling Xiao Liwei?" his mother asked. "Please mother, don't call me that," he calmly said. "Will you tell us why you haven't been picking our calls?" senior Jin demanded. "I just needed sometime alone, father," he said. "And you had it. You abandoned the company," he continued. "I'm going back in a week," he said. "I understand how you feel son but life has to go on," said his mother. "You don't understand anything mother," he deadpanned. "I admit I wasn't fond of your wife but I never wished her to die. I know how it feels," she said. "I will take my leave now," he told them. "Come on son. At least stay for dinner," Mrs Jin said. "I'm sorry I won't be able. I will come back soon," he told them before leaving. Senior Jin stayed back thinking about how lifeless his son had become. He wondered if he would stay that way forever.

.....

On Monday, Jin Liwei reached the company at exactly eight. He didn't like being late for work, even though nobody would question him. As soon as he sat down, Wang Mel came in with a large pile of files and placed them on the table. "Welcome back, sir," he said. He nodded before asking," Any news on the Lis?"

"Yes, sir. They left the mansion and now stay in a Villa," he reported like the diligent servant he was. "That's good. Go on with what you're doing," he instructed and Wang Mel nodded before excusing himself out of the office.

.....

Laying on her bed, Li Fei looked at the calendar she had stuck on the wall. It's been only two months since she's been in this place but a lot of things have happened. She then started thinking about doctor Caihong. Ever since she met him, he had been extremely nice and caring even after she got healed. He had been giving her nice food and also money even though she rejected them several times. Li Fei wasn't a naive girl not to know his intentions. She saw the way he spoke and looked at her. "Thinking about the doctor, I can see," Liling said who had come to join her on the bed. "Indeed. It was him I was thinking about," she said. "Tell me, what do you think about him? He has feelings for you," Liling told her. "I think so too." "And? What about you?" she asked. "I think he's a nice person," she simply stated.
