17 Chapter 17 Trust me

Caihong closely looked at the girl who was brought unconscious. He had never seen her here and it made him wonder if she was new. She looked young, delicate and so beautiful and it made him wonder what she might have done to end up here. It surprised him how he wanted to know about her because he had never been interested in knowing about a prisoner before. He was brought back to present when he heard her wince in pain and he asked once again," Does it hurt so much?"

"A little," she whispered.

He bent forward and asked," What happened? Who did this to you?" She didn't reply for a while and later, she said," I don't know. Perhaps it was an accident." "It is definitely not an accident. The wound was inflicted with intention," he stated as a matter of fact. "I don't know," was all she said. She knew that reporting them will be putting her in more danger. Caihong knew that she had been hurt by the inmates since bully cases were the most ones they got where sometimes prisoners killed themselves.

He was used to such cases or less concerned but with this one, he wanted to know who had hurt her. Sitting on her bed, he asked," What is your name?"

"Li Fei," she simply stated. "Li Fei listen, I know that you don't know me but you can trust me. Tell me those bullying you and I will talk to the prison warden about it," he told her. "I'm fine. Thank you though," she told him. He got that she wasn't going to tell him anything and he changed the topic saying," The wound is really deep and severe but you shouldn't worry. I've applied effective medicine and plenty of pain killers."

She nodded before asking," Does it mean I will get a scar?" "Do you want to get it?" he asked back. "Of course not." "Okay don't worry. I will make sure that you don't get it," he assured and she nodded. She realized that the doctor was a good person and she wondered if all prisoners were treated like this. Honestly, she didn't expect to receive such care and attention given the fact that they were criminals.

A while later, he ordered the nurse to get her some food and water for supper which they brought right away.

She realized that the food was not the one they ate at the dining hall and she assumed that it was the one for patients. Surprisingly, he ordered a glass of orange juice for her and she gulped the entire glass at once having taken long from drinking it. She also ate the food leaving nothing on the plate since it had been long she last ate such nice food.

"You want more?" asked the doctor when they took away the plates and she shook her head before saying," I'm full. Thank you doctor."

He nodded then gave her tabs and after, he told her to rest. When she fell asleep, he took his time looking at her. She looked so innocent and he decided to check her details to know why she was here because sometimes looks could be deceiving. Earlier when he looked at her back, he saw that she had bruises which meant that she was often being bullied by the inmates. Sighing, he decided to go back to work as he waits for her to wake up.

Later when Li Fei woke up, her eyes scanned the entire room and she saw that the handsome doctor wasn't in making her wonder if he had left. Just then, her heart almost slipped out of her chest when she saw the head guard standing at the entrance to the room. She had been so comfortable here that she had forgotten about the other tough side of the world. She walked to her and asked," What happened? Who burnt you?"

"I-It was an accident," she whispered and the head guard internally smiled on finding out that she had gotten the prison rules well. "Okay then. It's time for you to go to your cell. Get up!" she ordered and Li Fei started getting off the bed. "Shi Ming," she heard a deep voice that came from the back and she saw that it was the handsome doctor. For some unknown reason, Li Fei's racing heart calmed down. "Doctor Caihong," she acknowledged him. He came and stood near them and asked," What are you doing here?"

"I was doing roll call and I noticed that she was missing. I'm here to take her back," she simply stated. "Oh, how responsible. She's sleeping here tonight," he said and her eyes narrowed at this. "And why's that?" she asked. "Because she's sick. Your prisoners burnt her as you can see," he told her. "But she looks fine to me and perhaps she said it was an accident" "I am the doctor here. She's definitely being threatened to keep quiet," he said. "That's too bad. I'm not leaving this place without her," Shi Ming said and got a seat to wait.

Li Fei on seeing the tension in the room looked at the doctor and said," Please excuse me. I will dress up and leave." She wanted him to leave the room so that she could put back her shirt since her upper body was bare. "As I said Shi Ming, my patient is not leaving and if you insist, I will inform the Warden," he said and she glared at him first then at Li Fei before standing up and stormed out of the room. Li Fei felt her heart calm down when she left but she wondered if she was not going to pay for it later.

"Are you okay?" she heard that soothing voice again and she looked up then nodded. "That's good. Have a good night sleep Li Fei and incase you want anything don't hesitate to ask the nurse. I will take my leave now," he said and took a few steps before coming back and said," Li Fei, as I said you can trust me with anything." With that, he left the room. Li Fei wondered if she could borrow his phone because this was the only chance she seemed to have gotten.

For the first time after so long, Li Fei had a good night sleep because one, the bed was comfortable and she didn't have to be on the lookout for her life.
