134 Chapter 134 More than my own life

She got her phone to call him but it was off and she gritted her teeth. She went to WeChat and typed in a message," You're a liar! I hate you. I really hate you."

A while later when she calmed down, she prepared to leave for her home. If he wanted to be left alone then so be it.

As she came from the bath, she found her phone ringing and it was Li Jiang calling.

"Hello?" she answered. "How are you Li Fei? I've been calling your phone these days but it couldn't go through." "I'm okay. It was off," she replied dressing up. "I wanted to congratulate you upon your engagement. You did the right thing Li Fei," he said. "Thank you. If that is all Li Jiang, I would like to go now," she said. "Are you coming over at the company?" he inquired. "No. I think I won't be coming until Dad gets his surgery." "Okay take your time. Congratulations once again, bye."

Li Fei went back home and on reaching, her mother was relieved to see that she was okay.

With her phone that couldn't pass through, she had started to get worried. At night when she was in her room, Li Mei came with a magazine and said," FeiFei let's choose your dress together. It's good that you came back." "You can choose anything you want Mom," she said laying on the bed.

"Come on, it's your engagement party. At least give me an idea of what you would like," she said. "Mom, you very well know that I didn't want this. Whichever you choose, I will go with that," she remarked.

"Okay. Tell me then the colors you would like for the decorations," she said.

"Mother, I'm fine with anything. Absolutely anything," she said before adding," I only want to ask one thing from you Mom." "And what is that?" "Don't invite any reporters at the party. I want an absolutely private function. Will you do it?"

"Why if I may ask?" she asked. "I just want that. Will you Mom please?" she pleaded. "I will see what I can do," she said getting up. "Mom, please," she said but she left the room.

The next day Li Fei decided to stay in her room again. It was already afternoon and she couldn't believe that Jin Liwei hadn't bothered to call or respond to the messages she had sent him. She had decided not to call or message him again. Getting her phone, she checked his contact. Was his phone on now? Sould she perhaps call on it to check, but no. She put it back and stretched her body on the bed.

Just then, she heard a knock on the door. "Come in," she said. On opening, she saw Jianyu's head peeking inside and he asked," May I come in?" She sat up and said," Sure."

Since Jianyu was soon going to be her fiancee, her parents found it okay for him to go to her room. Luckily, she was dressed in decent pajamas.

He walked to the couch and took a seat. "How have you been?" he asked. "Fair." "You're sick?" he asked looking at her concerned. "Kind of," she said. "What is wrong?" he asked. "Never mind." "It's hard but I will try. Ah, Mr Jin Liwei came to my place yesterday," he said and her eyes widened in shock. "Why? How?" she managed to say. "Ordering me to stay away from you. He even hit me," he said pointing on the faint bruise and Li Fei caught sight of it. "I'm really sorry. He can be difficult some times," she could only say. "I understand. Any man could do the same for you," he said and he added," But I must say, it shocked me to know that he was your boyfriend. No offense but considering the things he did to you and the way your family hates him, I never thought you would like him." She smiled sadly and said," What can I say, we don't choose who we love. It just happens. And Jin Liwei may be tough but he's a nice person."

"He's lucky if I may say. It seems you love him so much," he said. "More than my own life," she affirmed. "Ah Okay. I'm worried for the both of you though. Will your parents ever accept him?" "I honestly don't know. We just have to hope," she said. "I understand. But all I can say is that you should be very careful especially now. If your father finds out about it then it might not leave a good impact on his health," he said. "I know. Thank you and please keep it a secret," she said. "You shouldn't worry about me. What are you doing for the rest of the day?" "Nothing. I don't want to do anything." "I can take you somewhere that can help lift up your mood," he offered.

"Thank you but no. I would rather stay home."

"Okay. I will take my leave then," he said getting up. "I'm sorry I didn't walk you out." "It's absolutely fine. Have a nice time," he said before leaving.

She laid back on the bed and stared at the ceiling for quite some time before closing her eyes.

A week passed like pages of a book being flipped and during the entire time, Li Fei hadn't heard from Jin Liwei. She too hadn't contacted him and she decided to leave it that way but her mind was always full of thoughts of him hoping and expecting to receive a call or a message from him.

"FeiFei, here is your dress. I decided to choose purple this time round it being your favorite color," Li Mei said as the maid placed it in the closet. "I will check it later," she replied.

"I thought you're going to try it now. Ain't you excited to check what I made for you?" "I will do it tomorrow Mom. It's late right now," she said. "Okay. Everything is included. Your shoes, jewelry are all inside the package," she explained and she nodded.

Li Mei sat beside her and said," You don't look to be happy and I don't think it's only about the engagement. What is wrong?" "Nothing Mom," she replied.
