Chapter 5: New Life

I ran away from my fate and I found a new one. A few months went by when I found a job, a place to live, and friends. I lied about my age, name, and my history. I even changed my face. I grew my hair long and dyed it white. I am now living the life of Sycis Valydark, an elf who chose to live the life of a human. I live happily now. I talk with my friends about good relationship advice. I work well at my job. I thought this was going to last forever. Oh how wrong I was. There was a commotion in the street. There were girls surrounding them. I recognized those faces. They were Rune, Kirnon, and Horace. They were standing out there conversing with the ladies. I passed by them. Then I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was Rune. I thought he would recognize me.

"Excuse me, miss. Do you know a young woman named Taratheil?"

"Oh, I think I have seen her somewhere before. I can show you," I said while lying through my teeth.

"Really?! That would make my day. Hey Kirnon, Horace! This lady will show us to Taratheil!"

I ran out of the house and did not look back. After a few hours, they learned she tricked them.

"She duped us!" yelled Rune.

"She must be in connection with Taratheil! She must know where she is," said Horace.

"Hey, she looked familiar. She looked like Taratheil. Their hair length is almost the same and their facial features," said Kirnon. The three brothers ran out to find her footsteps in the dirt. They followed the scent and tracks.

"I thought they would recognize me. But good thing I have this map. It can help me get away - and fast."

I walked to the nearest town and followed the trail. I was tired of the running so I stopped by a house with a light in it. I knocked on the door when old woman came to face me. I asked if I could stay the night and she accepted.

She invited me in and had shared some of her food for me and set me in a room for the night.

In the middle of the night, I heard some yelling and screaming.

I headed to the kitchen where the noise was coming from and I saw the old lady....
