1 Chapter 1

Wren sighed as she looked out the tinted window of the limousine watching as the silver buildings passed by, the limo reflected in the large building windows. It had been a week since her engagement to Andrew, the vampire king of England, had been announced. To say she was unhappy about the arrangement would be an understatement. Her husband to be was not who she had expected or wanted, but alas, her father had made his decision. She pouted, the drive home seemed like it would only take seconds, but she was not ready to spend the remainder of her days in the house.

"Johnathan, turn the car around please. I'd like to stop for something to drink," Wren said, this would only allow her fifteen minutes max to avoid going home. It wasn't long, but she'd take anything at this point.

"Miss, I don't think your father would like that very much. I had precise instructions-"

"Please, Johnathan... I'll be fifteen minutes tops, and if my father gets mad, I'll take the fall," Wren said, quickly cutting the older man off, who sighed and turned the car around. "Thank you!" She said politely with a hint of excitement.

Soon the car had stopped at the coffee shop. Many people around the restaurant stopped and stared, wondering who would get out. Much to their disappointment, many would not recognize the woman and chalk her up to just being a rich girl. Still, the few who did recognize her would know her to be the vampire princess of the United States. The princess was rarely out and about, but with the recent news of a royal wedding in the next few weeks, she had been reported on more.

Wren walked into the shop, quickly ordering her drink and sitting down to wait for it. Many eyes in the shop followed hers, but one pair seemed particularly intent. She glanced over at the man who was staring at her so intensely and found a handsome face staring back. The man had dark hair and bright green eyes, he was lean and his hair short. His features were strong like he had been cut from marble.

He gave her a big grin and pulled out a flask from his pocket, "cheers," he said, his voice was deep but also surprisingly smooth. He unscrewed the bottle and poured a majority of its contents into his coffee. "Would you like some sweetheart?" He asked teasingly, narrowing his eyes slightly. She rolled her own in response.

"Sure," she replied curtly, studying the man as he got up from his table and sat across from her. The handing her the open flask, which she accepted and took a long swig from it. When she pulled it away, she wrinkled her nose in disgust, "ew, what is that" she huffed, handing the awful liquid back to him.

The man laughed at her reaction, "that darlin', is the good shit" he took the flask back and finished it off before putting it away.

"I've had 'good shit' and that, my friend, is not it," she huffed in disappointment, "you need a better taste in alcohol."

"Oh?" He chuckled as he watched her with interest, "how about you show me what's good then. Tonight." He said with a giant smirk on his face, "there's a bar down the street call' old Hickories' how about you join me there at-"

"Midnight," Wren said, cutting the strange man off, "I'll meet you there at midnight."

This seemed to satisfy the man as he nodded in agreement. As if the barista had timed it, her name was called for her drink. It was time for her to leave.

"I'll see you later," she said, waving at the man as she stood up, grabbed her coffee, and left. The man's gaze followed her until she was out the door and back in the limo. Wren was not one to do things like this, but with her appending marriage, she figured she deserved at least one night of fun.

As soon as Wren got comfortable in the limo, her father's voice boomed over the limos sound system, "where are you?" His voice was stern and demanding, even over the phone it caused her to flinch.

"Father!" Wren squeaked nervously, "I just stopped to get a coffee. I'm on my way back now," she said quickly.

The man grumbled, "your mother's pissed that you're late to your dress fitting appointment, hurry home," he said, clearly annoyed by this. He then hung up the phone, leaving Wren to dread her coming doom.
