21 Chapter 21 - Beast Language

"You want me to do what?!"

The ground shook beneath them and it felt like something big just landed out of nowhere. Both of them ignored it so they could focus on their plan.

"You're far more courageous than I am."

"That's not enough reason to send me out like bait! No wait, I am indeed bait!" Mi Young says as she playfully glares at Shang Min.

"I know it's too demanding but I'm really slow."

"What do you mean?"

Shang Min sighs but she still took time to explain, "I have a leg injury that hinders my speed and agility. That's why I tend to focus more on my internal mana rather than balancing my physical and inner magic."

Mi Young still couldn't believe what she was saying so Shang Min took off her boots to let Mi Young see the long marks that run from her thighs down to her toe.

"Long story short, a beast attacked me before." She explains. There was that sad look on her eyes once more but it was gone in a second before Shang Min started talking again, "So I need you to distract the mother while I look for her babies. Don't worry, I'll be quick since I have an inkling where they are located and who stole them."

"My life for a savage beast? Great!" Mi Young sarcastically says as she gives Shang Min an unimpressed laugh.

"I'll make it up to you later! I'll pay you!" Shang Min says, her voice pleading and hopeful.

Mi Young's ears ring upon hearing the word 'pay'. "How much are you going to pay me?"

"Anything you want."

"Okay." Suddenly, there was inspiration running through Mi Young's body while she's thinking of the payment she's going to get. "Distracting that savage beast will be a piece of cake! Don't worry, I'll take care of her and you find the eggs."

Shang Min has a dumbfounded look on her face while looking at Mi Young's sudden change of attitude. "Wow, you're shameless."

"Can't blame me, I'm broke and I need money to survive. I'm not from a rich family like you." Mi Young says to defend herself.

"I'm sorry." Shang Min apologizes. Her expression was sad and she looked at Mi Young with pity.

"Don't look at me like that. I'm not mad that I'm poor so stop with that look!" The girl says as she waves a hand in the air. She gestures to Shang Min to keep going so she can execute the plan already.

Shang Min was about to go in the opposite direction but before doing so, she turned to Mi Young and said in her most sincere voice, "Thank you."

After that, she ran and hid behind the bushes so the Basilisk Dragon wouldn't notice her.

While Shang Min was crouching down she sent Mi Young a thumbs up, a sign that she's ready to go. Mi Young nodded at her before she took a deep breath and went out from hiding behind the tall tree.

"Hey mommy! I know where your kids are!" Mi Young shouts from the top of her lungs. Her voice echoed all throughout the silent forest. This also caught the attention of the beast, as it instantly ran towards her direction.

Mi Young gulps down a lump of her saliva before she whispers to herself, "Here goes nothing."

And she runs off towards the North and opposite to where Shang Min is heading.

As she was being chased by the beast, all Mi Young could think of is why the hell was she even doing it? She can earn money in a different way and not by being used as bait to catch the attention of a beast.

Mi Young mentally slaps her face.

She saw a large rock on her left and immediately went to hide behind it.

However, not long after, the beast's tail struck the rock causing it to crumble into pieces.

Mi Young thanks her father for training her to use her reflexes thoroughly. IF not for her fast response¸ she would have crashed to death.

The dark haired girl started running once more but the more she thought about it, the more she realized she could not outrun the beast forever. So Mi Young starts thinking about another way to distract the beast instead.

She tries to focus and remember what she has read in her father's "Book of Savage Beasts and How To Tame Them". Savage beasts differentiate from one another. There are beasts who are independent of their master and there are also beasts who need masters in order to survive.

From what she has learned, and from what Shang Min told her earlier, this Basilisk Dragon is gentle. However, she started attacking anyone who neared the swamp to protect her babies.

"Wait a minute…" Mi Young momentarily forgets that she was being chased by the beast and halts her movement.

If this beast is really looking for its children, she would have left the swamp already. But why is she lurking under the water instead? Aside from that, she started attacking anyone who nears the swamp, including Shang Min.

"Which means…" Mi Young was about to finish off her sentence when the savage beast roared behind her. That's when she recalled that she was being chased after. "Ooopsie!"

Mi Young skidded to her left to avoid the beast's mouth. The beast roared once more, getting angrier that Mi Young was able to steer clear of her attack.

Since the beast is a gentle creature and Mi Young isn't fond of hurting those who do her no harm, she fires a fireball just to momentarily blind the beast.

When its vision was blocked, Mi Young immediately jumped from the huge rock she was standing on and leapt to get back to the swamp.

Seconds later, she once again heard the furious roar of the savage beast. When it realized that Mi Young was running back towards the swamp, the beast breathed out fire.

"IT BREATHES FIRE?!' Mi Young wanted to strangle Shang Min for not warning her that the Basilisk Dragon can attack using magic as well. And to top all of that, it's fire, the most deadliest element out of the four. "Shang Min I'm going to kill you!!"

Even though she knew Shang Min couldn't hear her, Mi Young still shouted to let off some steam. She sees the huge tree where she and Shang Min hid earlier and sighs in relief upon finally reaching the swamp.

However, when she was about to run past the tree, that's when the beast stopped running for her. Instead, it used its wings and flew high above and then landed in front of Mi Young.

Now, she's blocking Mi Young from the swamp.

The Basilisk Dragon roared ferociously at Mi Young. You can hear the rage and protectiveness in its voice.

"How do I deal with this?" Mi Young worries for herself. She tries to think of something once more and finally, after trying to remember all the books she has read, she recalls one savage beast language that her father taught her.

Mi Young isn't sure if it would work but she tries it either way, at least she didn't give up even for a second if this is going to be her last moments.

When the beast opened its mouth, ready to launch another poisonous breath at her, Mi Young shouted from the top of her lungs.

Rooooar!

Suddenly, the beast stops as if it was in a daze. It blinked at Mi Young for about two seconds before its head landed in front of her. Some of the mud hit Mi Young on the face with how strong the impact was.

And just like her dog at home, the savage beast started licking Mi Young with its gigantic serpent-like tongue.

"Gross!" Mi Young shrieks. She sends a glare at the savage beast before she pointed at it, "Stop! That's bad."

Instantly, the beast stopped its action and it looked at Mi Young with a sad expression, as if it was hurt because her master told her to stop.

"Down." The beast sits down like a dog, its tail even wagging out of excitement. "Good."

Mi Young isn't sure if she was doing it right. But seeing the beast's reaction, she knew her plan worked.

She breathes out a sigh of relief upon being able to save herself this time.

However, as soon as she crouches down to rest, a series of cute roars appear out of nowhere followed by the mother Basilisk's soft bellow.

Mi Young stands up to check the Basilisk's babies and she smiles softly upon watching the mother tend to its offspring. While watching the interaction between the family, Mi Young suddenly felt a sense of protectiveness towards them. She grew up without a mother so she wanted to do everything she can so these babies can grow up and be with their mom.

She swears to herself to not let anyone enter the forest aside from her and Shang Min so they could forever protect their little, well not so little considering the size of the beast, secret.

Just as she was comfortably watching the scene in front of her, Shang Min appeared out of nowhere, she sounded distressed and worried, "Mi Young! I saw the eggs but the babies weren't there anymore! What if they hatch while their mother is not there and other beasts eat them!? What should we do, Mi Young? The Basilisk Dragon would be so worried!"

"Hey, calm down."

"How can I calm down after knowing that the Basilisk's kids could be in danger?" Shang Min shouts. Mi Young knows any minute now, the other girl would end up crying. "I swore to protect them but I failed!"

Mi Young was about to tell Shang Min about the Basilisk but a questioning roar stopped her from doing so. Shang Min gets up from where she kneeled on the ground and looks behind Mi Young.

That's when the other girl saw the Basilisk Dragon with her five little dragons below her. All of them are watching Shang Min with confusion.

"Oh my god!" Shang Min says as she hugs Mi Young out of nowhere. "They're alive! They're safe!"

As the other girl continued hugging her while jumping out of glee, all Mi Young could do was sigh.
