17 Chapter 17 - Cold Heart

As an Alpha King, I'd rather choose to keep my people, especially my mate, safe. Alphas are known for being possessive with their mate, they wanted their mate to submit to them, but Reina have an alpha's blood as well, she has her own will whether not to submit right away, and I respect that, even though, she sometimes are hard headed. So, when the patrol informed us about a rogues' attack, I hesitantly approved of Reina's decision to fight with us. I would be glad if she just stay here so that I will not worry about her in the battle field.

I looked at Reina, with concerned, after I gave order to different groups of warriors, to spread through out the territorial borders,

"If you want to fight with us, you can...but please be safe, if not, you can go to the pack safe house together with the others..and-"

"No ! I will not hide nor run today, I had enough of that, I have been training for these past weeks, it is time to show them...I want to fight with you" her serious immediate response to me before I could have a chance to finish my sentence with her. Damn, this woman. I love this side of her, her fighting spirit and willingness, but sometimes I just wanted her to be safe and I wanted her to listen to me even for once.

Seeing her fighting spirit, as well as her eagerness to come with us, I just nodded to them, showing my approval of us, to go and fight.

"She doesn't look well... she might be thinking about the rogues who attacked her village, you shouldn't have let her fight with us" Blade, bluntly said to my mind. Yeah, he's right. She might be in danger, bringing emotions to a battlefield is not good, but, I cant stop her.

"If this is what she needed to make her mind at peace, let it be" I respond, letting him control this time, because I know I needed his strength for me to protect her at all cost in this kind of situation.

We shifted and ran to the woods, with our royal blood's pace and strength, I notice Reina is trying her best to keep up with us. I didn't slowdown, I dont want to show her any special treatment, especially in a field, because I believe in her, I trust her that she will never put her life at risk and she could fight well. But, it changes when I saw one of the rogue is about to ambush her, coming from the bushes. My heart skip a beat in that moment. " see !!! ... she could've been hurt" Blade complain. Luckily, Valencio was much nearer to the enemy, using his quick thinking, he clawed the head off of the rogue.

"Too slow pup, remember your training..!" I heard Valencio said to my mate. I smiled at Reina and Valencio knowing that they're okay. Then, quickly turn my face to our destination. "...you should have just make her stay at the capital" Blade was whining through my mind, thinking that his mate might get hurt. I shake him off to the corner of my head and divert my focus towards our upcoming enemy. I believe in her to do her best, I saw her fighting skills during training and I am sure that, all of that isn't for nothing. I smirk to that thought, feeling my wolf so overprotective to our mate, not seeing how Tas and her human doing their best for us too.

When we arrived at the border, we saw some of the patrol already fighting, some were bathe in blood and others were lifeless lying on the ground, both rogues and royal guards. I immediately jump on to the one patrol who's lying in the ground defending himself from the three rogues, snapping their heads off and to others, clawing their skins, until they ran out bleeding.

My team is now fighting with the other rogues, I contact my beta that was on the other territorial border side to know about their situation, luckily they are done with just a few of them and heading now to ours.

After a while, I looked for Reina who is nowhere to be found within our area, I notice her scent outside the border, heading farther towards a rogue who is leading other two rogues. She was quite good at fighting with them, clawing their chests and all, keeping a straight look in the enemy's eyes while confidently talking to them, until one black wolf with a dull eyes jumps in between them, that leads her to stand in shock, it looks like she knew that one wolf who's in front of her. "Why isn't she fighting it now?" Blade ask out of curiosity, worried as hell as I am.

I ran towards them in a hurry, seeing the black wolf raising its claws readily for my mate. Wait, why is she still standing there? and why does this wolf looked exactly like her, except for the eyes, its eyes seemed to be dull and lifeless. I thought to myself.

Nearing her, I could hear her say, "papa?"

wait! , what?! that wolf is her father? I thought he was dead, they all are, when we visit her village before, there is nothing left from them, except for ashes, and now, this?

Why would her father fight with her? or even harm her? is he capable of doing that to her own flesh and blood? Day after day, more and more unanswered questions developed in my minds. I hope Doctor Raymond has the answer he's searching on for a week now, he still doesn't give us an open mind for us to able to mind link him and know his situation.

Now, what does these rogues want from us or her?

I growled at them loudly making them step a few backwards, shielding my mate behind me, who is still in shock. I mind link Grace to tend with Reina, to see if she's wounded or well, she immediately obeyed and ran towards my mate. Now, seeing her guarded with my gamma, I confidently move forward to the enemy. Encircling the black wolf looking for an opening. "Are you sure about this?, you might hurt him, he's your mate's father" Blade second thought about clawing the enemy. But we aren't sure about it yet. I respond to him. Before I could think of anything else, the black wolf charge in front of me, I quickly avoided his canines and clawed his left foot, I felt a little sympathy looking at him limping now. His eyes are dull, and salivating more than normal, he had so many scars and looking at him now stung my heart, knowing that he's my mate's father, and was hurt this much.

"What happened to you?!" I ask him, though he give me no response.

While I am fighting with the black wolf, I saw Valencio and the others, now heading to us and to the other rogues outside our border. Unfortunately, the enemy ran off quickly, leaving the black wolf behind. Now, being outnumbered, other warriors throw a wolf bane chained net at him, allowing him to kneel down in defeat. One of the warrior is about to hurt him,

"No !..." Reina exclaimed, immediately she ran towards him, "he's my father...he doesn't shifted yet in his human form, but I know his looks in his wolf form..." she look at me now, "so, please, dont hurt him"

"Put him in the cellar, and tend to his wounds, call Doctor Alexa to examine him, since Doctor Raymond is not yet here" I order them, while I walk heading to my gamma with my mate who's still not in her right mind as of now.

"What happened back there?" I calmly ask my mate, she just looked at me and sighed.

"I dont know... but one thing I am sure of... is that, he is my father... my dead father"

"What, that is impossible" Grace exclaimed.

"...though I cant feel any bond towards him, I cant enter his mind, I can not mind link him or talk to him" She explained. "I could see that he is not well, seeing those dull eyes, as if he is not him" she added.

"Let us talk about this back in the capital, for now let us go back"

We headed back to our pack house, I told them to meet me in my office to talk about this incident, after we clean ourselves from the blood of the enemies that is reeking from our body scents. Reina and the others nodded at me, and I saw her fall a tear from her eyes, as she walk by, passing me not even uttering a single word.

"Is she hurt?! could you atleast ask her that? aren't you worried?!" Blade shouted at me by our mind link. I am worried about her, but I dont know what to say to her, after what we saw today. I shake him off of my mind as I come to my room and wash myself clean.

One thing I observe today is how my wolf keep on complaining on me.
