13 New Arrival

[You have died.]

[Do you wish to revive at the closest cemetery?]

"What the fuck was that! Damn. Yeah, revive me."

Simply experienced a warm relaxing feeling similar to massage, as his physical body regenerated. His immediate reaction was gagging.

After all, the settlement had just been established a few weeks ago. The settlers prioritized construction for the living. As for the dead, they were buried in a common pit.

The pungent smell of rotting corpses disgusted him, to the point of running away from the respawn point.

---

Once he was away from the stench, he when over his stats. A lot of things had been updated. His Class for one had changed to Imperial Knight. It was pretty overpowered, especially in the early stages of the game.

A noble warrior representing the Eternal Empire's military might.

'Looks like the game doesn't feed you information automatically. You need to find out your hidden class on your own. That's kind of unfair.'

His experience had also been reset after his unfortunate death. Mimics are devious monsters who disguise themselves as inanimate objects such as treasure chests. They are the bane of newbies and experienced adventurers alike. They prey on unexpecting passersby.

Simply begun his long way back to the cave for the sweet taste of vengeance, when the settlement bell rang.

"Excuse me, ma'am, do you know what the bell means?"

"The bell is used primarily to warn us of a goblin raid. This one thought should be the arrival of the main fleet. Those buggers sure took their time."

"Ha, thank you."

Simply quickly retreated toward a quiet place overviewing the piers. A large fleet of over a hundred ships dwarfed the puny little settlement with its three piers. People had started to crowd in the vicinity.

The first three ships docked. The tired but happy passengers spilt out from within the ship's hull, with their few small personal belongings. They were received by the settlers with cheers and hugs. Families were reunited, friends started talking about their high sea adventure, and lovers were in each other's arms.

Unnoticed by most, Simply observed a smaller ship break off from the rest and head straight to the newly constructed fourth pier. It displayed an astounding level of craftsmanship and flew a golden standard. Once docked, four full golden plate knights escorted a hooded figure towards the City Lord Mansion. A contingent of lightly armoured infantry opened the path.

'Feels like the calm before the storm. I should stay put for now. Guess I'll start taking up blacksmithing while I am at it.'

He headed towards the craftsmen district. The district was a jungle of different crafts, jumbled together with a multitude of pathways and staircases. In other words, it was extremely easy to lose yourself here. The harsh metallic smell contrasted the unique mellow smell of leather, while the thundering hammers added to the rhythmic weaving looms.

Players and NPCs were at work. Haggling, smelting, weaving, crafting. Some players had become the apprentice of NPC craftsmen, in order to master their craft.

Simply made his way to a workshop. Captain Alvyn had recommended it to him. The workshop was quite shabby. A small furnace to process ores stood in a corner, while a beaten-up anvil lay abandoned beside it. A few iron nails and construction materials were on display.

An old man napped in a corner of the room. His face told of a harsh life. His dark skin and his dark clothes blended him with the workshop's dim lighting. Only his face was revealed, and his hands were covered by thick leather gloves.

"I heard you are the best smith in the settlement. I would like to take up smithing. Can you teach me?"

"Get lost, kid. The best, huh? Look around you, what do you see? Nothing but construction supplies. I don't make weapons of any sort not armour for that matter. Get Lost."

"Are you using the equipment?"

Caught off guard by the straightforward question, the old man answered without thinking.

"No..."

"Good, then I'll use them."

---

After a quick supply run, Simply began his journey as a blacksmith.

The furnace was built from a mixture of clay and sand. Th,e smelting process starts with the pre-heating of the furnace. Once pre-heated, it was filled up with burning charcoal. On top of that Simply added one layer of iron ore and one layer of charcoal alternately. After about 2-3 hours, the slag was removed. The iron stayed in a solid state throughout the smelting process. The temperature required to melt iron requires a bigger furnace or the use of magic, something that Simply lacked. The refined iron formed in the hearth of the furnace.

Once the smelting process was completed, Simply was rewarded with a new notification.
