1 Salesgirl

"That would be seventeen dollars and six cents. We provide a discount offer of 30% on purchase of any items more than Twenty Dollars for all the regular customers." Ella waited for the lady to take up on the offer knowing well that this one was a sweet tooth.

Then the lady, Mrs Harper said, "Why not! Get me two more strawberry rolls and one sponge cake" while smiling brightly to avail the extra treats.

Ella smiled back and made the order for the lady, "Enjoy. And do visit again." Ella pocketed the money and updated the accounts for the sales made. No one would have imagined for this bakery to have made income for these past months so rapidly. After all it had the contribution of Ella Kingsly's intellect and talent.

While going through the figures that Ella had recorded about the sale and income of the shop, she felt proud for her work in this place. Even though it was a bakery; she was at least starting up at some point. All she had ever wanted was to make something worthy of her time unlike the girls around her age to be cooped in social media and parties to get drunk uncontrollably, only to vomit it the very next moment. She sighed softly and went along to restock the items that were empty now. She still remembered the time when she had first encountered this place and chuckled remembering her strange way of being hired.

It was eight months ago when she was on a job hunt in order to support her mother and herself as the savings had dried up after a year. She was on her last year of graduation when she realized, she will need more money to pay for the fees than the savings left. She had gone along with her resume to many companies which let her down, claiming that the field where she wanted a job at least needed her to be graduated. And she had no idea of any other field. Also, the graduation was midway completed. That led her to finding jobs as an accountant or analyst in medium sized entities. While finding no luck at availing vacancies in any of them she came across this lone shop situated in the heart of the city while walking tiredly. It was almost close to evening and she thought to give it a last try for the day.

She peeped a bit in the glass door to look for anyone and wasn't able to see properly. She entered the shop and the bell jingled while entering. She was met with a sight of different types of cakes, muffins, and whatnots. She wasn't exactly well endowed in knowing the types of baked dishes. So, she let her eyes wander when she saw a middle-aged lady around 40's to be asleep with her chin on her palm supported by her elbow and her face was almost falling down to touch the table she was sleeping on. Looking around she saw the shop had no other person and people walking by the shop didn't even bother to look around in this shop. She wondered how she came across this one then. Anyways Ella went on to wake the lady, "Ma'am? Hello?" The lady didn't respond unsurprisingly. She went closer to her and shook her shoulder. That got a reaction but not the one Ella would have ever wanted. The lady got up from the desk with a knife in the other hand which Ella didn't notice her holding with. The knife was shoved in the air towards Ella as though she was a thief as if a thief would even bother anyone waking up while robbing. This made Ella squeal and put her hands in the air.

"Don't move. You thief. Trying to steal from a reputed lady!" the lady spoke.

"I wasn't!" said Ella thinking that she shouldn't have bothered with snooping around here. She went on to explain before this lady would call cops on her. And that was the last thing that she would want. She said squeamishly then, "I'm Ella. I want a job. Are there any vacancies available?" She must say this was a very strange interview of hers, involving her being in a stiff position with her hands in the air.

The lady blinked, "Are you nuts? Who comes over and steals jobs? Can't you see there's none here to work upon your job!" Ella was going to respond her but the lady beat her to it. "You are playing with me? But your tricks ain't gonna work here. I know you want money from here to steal. And I'll stab you if you take a step forward to the cash counter here." said the lady while pointing her finger to the counter.

Even though the lady tried threatening her Ella didn't understand whether to be scared or laugh at the dumb lady. Who would want to put a bait to a thief by showing where the cash is? So much for kindness thought Ella.
