16 Wait what?

<p>The moment they both stepped into the car till the moment they arrived at the hospital the tension was still in the air, Jamal had tried to make a joke to ease the tension but it only made it thicker ,so they were silent throughout the whole ride.<br/><br/> When they got to the hospital, they were directed and asked if it was their first prenatal, when theybreplied yes, they were redirected to her doctor.<br/><br/> " Hi, I'm Dr Joe Greg, I'll be your gynecologist till your baby is born" the doctor introduced, Jamal and Avery replied by saying their names.<br/><br/> " What a wonderful couple you two are". He stated smiling from ear to ear.<br/><br/> "We aren't a couple" Avery retorted.<br/><br/> " Oh sorry, I just assumed" the doctor defended himself.<br/><br/> "No worries" she replied. <br/><br/> "So today I'm going to be running some tests. We'll run a complete check up on you ".<br/><br/> " Okay" she replied.<br/><br/>The doctor gave her a complete check-up, with a physical exam and blood and urine tests to make sure she was healthy. He started by measuring her height, weight, blood pressure, breathing, and pulse. <br/><br/> Then he conducted a breast exam, a pelvic exam, a Pap test, he tested her for sexually transmitted infections (like chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV) while screening for diabetes, anemia, hepatitis B, and rubella.<br/><br/> He asked her if she had any questions about her pregnancy and the birth of her future baby.<br/><br/> "Do you have any medical history that you think might affect your baby?" The doctor asked while checking her blood pressure.<br/><br/> "No" was her short answer<br/><br/> "Family medical history?" <br/><br/> "None that I know of" she replied.<br/><br/>" What's your diet being like?" The doctor asked checking her bp <br/><br/> "I've been craving a lot of weird things lately,and my favorite foods are beginning to disgust me" she replied scrunching up her face as she says it.<br/><br/> "That's totally normally, I'd prescribe some prenatal vitamins for you, though the most important vitamin you can take is folic acid" he advised, while giving her advice about the changes she can make to have the healthiest pregnancy possible.<br/> <br/> Jamal and Avery nodded as they were receiving every information the doctor gave them. <br/><br/> " And also remember to excercise but don't put too much stress on yourself. Some types of medicine are dangerous to use during your pregnancy. Tell me about every medicine, supplement, or drug you're using, and always check with me before starting any new ones. " the doctor added <br/><br/> <br/> "Thank you doctor" Avery and Jamal simultaneously said.<br/><br/> "So would you love to see your baby?" The doctor asked with a bright smile in his face.<br/><br/> "Yes please" Jamal happily replied,<br/><br/> " Okay if you'd follow me this way" the doctor led them to the radiology department of the hospital to a room where she saw an examination bed where she was told to lie down on.<br/> <br/> The ultrasound technician told her to lift up her top and applies a cold gel to her abdomen and pelvic area. Next, the technician places a small wand, called a transducer, onto her belly. Then the ultrasound technician moves the transducer to capture black and white images onto the ultrasound screen.<br/><br/> Then the sound of the baby's heartbeat fills the room. A tear falls from Jamal's face as soon as he hears it.<br/>"Is that..?" Astonished Avery asked<br/><br/>"Yes. Your baby's heartbeat" the doctor replied eyes locked on the screen.<br/><br/>"Hmm…"<br/><br/>"What's wrong doctor, is the baby fine?" Jamal asked after seeing the scrunched up face of the doctor.<br/><br/>"Yes, but I think we have someone is playing hide and seek". The doctor chuckled.<br/><br/>"Hide and seek? What do you mean doctor?" Jamal worringly asked.<br/><br/>"There are two heartbeats looks like you'll be having twins" the technician noticed<br/><br/> " Babies?" Both Avery and Jamal exclaimed.<br/><br/> "To clarify, do you mean I am carrying more than one baby, Twins?!" Avery asked again, finding it hard to believe.<br/><br/> "Yes,you see this two peanut like dots, those are your babies, you're having twins" the technician repeated.<br/> <br/> The technician also took measurements of the image on the screen. She then asked Avery to hold her breath while the images were captured, then, the technician wipes off the gel.<br/><br/> Avery was still astounded by her discovery, two babies?</p>
