18 My mother

"Mom" Jamal called out to a petite older aged beautiful woman, Avery didn't even notice she was still deep in thought about what the technician told her.

"What are you doing here?" Jamal was about to answer when Zara saw Avery coming up from behind me.

"Good afternoon ma'am" Avery greeted with a smile the moment she bumped into me and noticed who Jamal was talking to.

"Who's this young lady?" She asked turning her head to get a clearer view of Avery

"Why is she here with you?" She added not allowing me to reply the questions she had just asked me.

Just as she was about to utter another word I cut her off.

"Mum this is Avery" he introduced, his mom looking at him like she was waiting for a bomb to drop.

"And she's having my babies" and poof it felt like I had just dropped a bomb on her but his mom didn't waver, she was emotionless. His mom was a total snob.

"Did you just say babies?" His mom asked a hint of shock revealing on her face.

,"Yes mom, she's having twins" he smiled feeling his mom would accept, one thing he knew well about his mom is her love for kids, she was always complaining about his lifestyle and how she wanted to carry her grandbabies and see them reach a particular age before she joins the dead.

"For me mom" he stressed, waiting for her to reply or say something.

"Who're your parents?" After what felt like the most excruciating five minutes of Avery's life, this was the first thing Zara, Jamal's mom asked. She seemed indifferent about everything else.

" My mother's name was Jane Isabella Jones and my father's was Andrew Jones" she replied suddenly feeling down by just thinking about them.

"Was?" Zara asked still acting indifferent.

"Yeah 'was' my dad died when I was ten years old and my mom died four years ago" she replied, trying to keep her tears at bay.

"Okay but who were they? We're they connected to the famous Jones?" Zara asked.

"My dad was a factory worker, it was the cause of his death, a box of tools fell from the top of the building and that's how he died, while my mom was a matron at a hospital, she died of Cancer" she explained trying hard not to think about it.

"So basically, you're a nobody?" Zara scoffed.

"Mom!!" Jamalv barked, getting angry with his mother.

"Don't mom me, she's a nobody and you know what happens when people like that come into your life, they come to take and nothing else, I'm sure she knew who you were and that's why she purposely got pregnant for you" Zara sneered eyeing Avery from head to toe "She's just that, a nobody and nobodys' should know their place" Zara added looking straight into Avery's eyes making it obvious that she was talking to her.

But before Jamal could say anything Avery cut him off

" I'm not after your son" Avery avowed, leaving the hospital before she said something she'd regret,if not for her home training and her mom's words 'never be rude to anybody no matter what they do' all hell would have broken loose, she had a lot of things she'd have said but quietly leaving was prolly for the best.

"Mom" Jamal seethed, he was agitated, angry boiling within even.

"What? It's true, people like that are meant to be avoided" Zara said spraying sanitizers around the whole area, about to spray it on her son when he angry left the scene.

"Where are you going? , Let me sanitize the dirt off you" She shouted as she saw him leave. Jamal getting angrier by the second.

By the time he got outside the hospital, he looked around but Avery was no where to be found, she was gone and he'd be lucky if she ever talked to him again.
