5 5. Why is it always wolves?

"Ugh."

Dashing to the left as another wolf pounced at me. I try to assess the situation.

'Ok, two in front, one more trying to get behind me to the right and one still hiding in the brush in the distance. That makes four, shouldn't be to difficult as long as I keep my 'eyes' on them all.'

As I was thinking this the two in front came in for another synchronized attack with the smaller but quicker one coming in for a low attack directed at my right leg and the larger one pouncing to get to my neck.

Focusing on the larger one first, I move my right leg back causing the small one to miss and a moment later bend backward into a handstand kicking both my legs up into the other one launching it up into the air. Pushing myself up from the ground to launch me over the third wolf that used the opportunity to get behind me seeing that I am now in the air with the 2nd wolf, I drop-kick its head bringing it down on top of the 1st one. As soon as I touch the ground I dodge out of the way of the final one that was looking for a chance to attack.

"Hooooh."

Letting out a deep breath now that I am a few meters away from the group, I see the smallest one struggle to move it's now dead companion off of its body while what I assume to be the pack leader is now growling at me with what seems to be unbridled hate for killing its comrade.

'Oh, you mad huh? Bet.'

Charging up a white ki blast in my right hand, I throw it at the wolf that is still struggling to get up.

Seeing the attack heading to its members the pack leader opened its mouth and launched one of its own towards mine. The only difference being that it was green and much more condensed.

Watching them collide to better understand how elemental mana fairs against 'pure' mana I suddenly felt the urge to curse as the green blast overpowered mine.

"!!!"

Suddenly feeling some danger to my left, the one uninjured wolf managed to sneak up on me. Feeling its jaw sink into my waist I grit my teeth as I try to pry it off with my hands.

"AGGH!" The small one finding time to recover used that moment to bite into my right leg.

Now being locked in place by these two, the pack leader started charging up a dark green attack from its mouth.

'Judging by the energy that is quickly building up in its mouth, I know I will be in deep shit if It manages to hit me. Plus look at it, it's getting darker by the second.'

Deciding that I don't want to be puppy food, I bring my right hand to the head of the wolf at my midsection and try using the green energy inside of me. Sensing the energy gathering quicker than before, I quickly fire a much more condensed ki blast point-blank at its head while also trying to direct it to not hurt myself.

"!!!"

Feeling the leader ready to blast my ass, I ignore the now headless wolf and fling the other one off my leg with a kick towards the leader while doing a flip in the process into a low crouch.

Not being able to stop its attack at this stage the wolf had no choice but to watch as its attack launched towards its last companion. Feeling the attack (and wolf) flying over me I quickly put strength into my toes and launched myself at it delivering an elbow straight to its forehead.

Making sure that everything was dead and that there was not going to be any surprise visits from some random Alpha, I was finally able to relax when I was sure I was safe for the time being.

"Hoooooh."

Letting out another deep breath, I look around at the small craters left behind by my first real battle that could have led to my death if I had made any drastic mistakes and sit down with my legs crossed. Looking down to my now bloody waist, I try to reflect on the whole thing.

"First things first is my senses. I need to work on being able to focus on multiple things at once better. I shouldn't have been snuck up on by those two wolves in the middle of the fight. I know I was focused on trying to see how this 'mana' stuff works, but I was probably better off not even using it since I am not used to it yet. Especially since it put me in that situation earlier."

Looking towards the direction where the pack leader's last charge attack landed, I noticed that it didn't do much damage to the area around it other than blowing away some dirt. Remembering mom talking about being able to control your energy to not affect the things around you, I look back down at my waste and think about how I directed my last ki attack away from myself.

"That is probably what she was probably talking about. Doesn't seem to hard to be honest.?"

Pulling out the notes she left, which thankfully survived the whole ordeal, I made note that each element is represented by a color: red=fire green=wind blue=water yellow=earth gold=light black=darkness

It also mentioned something about turning the energy you cultivate into your elemental affinity and using that to strengthen your mana core and body to increase in stages. The more condensed the mana core the better.

"Seems pretty straight forward, a bit cliche but makes things easier. Now that I think about it when I blasted the one wolf the energy seemed to charge much quicker. Hmm, I wonder if it is because of the fact it has an element, maybe the wind element is just quicker to draw out, or maybe because it is energy that is already mine?"

Suddenly having all these new questions going through my head, I stop when I noticed my tail scratching my head again. Stopping after I turned to look at it. I couldn't help but wonder why is it always doing things on its own.

"It is almost like it has a mind of its own."

As if wanting to confirm what I just said it started to wiggle around like sound wave.

"You know what, nevermind."
