6 Chapter 6- the Dilemma

Adrian led Jennifer to a corridor and at the end of the corridor was an open balcony. The night sky was dotted with thousands of stars that were shining brightly. Looking at the night sky, Jennifer's eyes lit up. A smile appeared on her perfectly sculptured face. A light breeze was blowing, waving her back and forth. Looking at the stars reflecting in Jennifer's dark green orbs, Adrian was beyond happy.

Adrian was used to being surrounded by girls but somehow this moment was different. It was like he was trying to catch water running from the tap, the more he tried, the more it slipped away. The serenity of the scene was breathtaking. He felt perfectly at peace. His heartbeat was even and his breath perfectly in order.

He thought of holding hands with Jennifer, So when he looked at Jennifer's hand he noticed that her first finger was slightly red and swollen. It seemed though, it was burnt slightly. "Jennifer, Is your first finger burnt?" Adrian asked frowning in worry. "Oh this! Yes when I was getting ready today I burned my finger with the straightener." Jennifer said while quickly hiding her finger from Adrian's view. "Does it hurt?" Adrian further asked. "No, not that much." Jennifer said.

Adrian dug out his phone from his pocket and started dialing a number. "Who are you calling?" Jennifer questioned. "A servant, He will bring first aid." Adrian replied casually. "No, no need for that. It doesn't hurt."

"But first aid is must."

"OK then let's go to my home. It's a fifteen minutes ride."

" Okay then. Let's go!"

The thought of going to Jennifer's home was pleasant but right now Adrian was more focused on treating her injury rather than place or time, so he quickly agreed. Getting into the car and driving back home, Adrian's mind raced through hundreds of thoughts.

After a ride of 15 minutes, they reached Jennifer's home. Jennifer's house was really splendorous and magnificent but Adrian did not have time to look at all the details. As soon as the Butler opened the door, he asked Jennifer "Where is the first aid kit?"

"In the kitchen, second counter from the top." Jennifer replied. Adrian rushed into the kitchen and grabbed the first aid kit he brought the kit in the Jennifer's room where she was seated on her bed. Jennifer's room was really pretty and well organized. He ran towards her, grabbed her hand and applied ointment to her burnt finger. He bandaged her finger and told her to be more careful from now.

Just then Jennifer's phone rang. She picked up the phone and saw her mother calling. Then it struck her! She had come out of the party without telling her parents. They must be worried for her. She quickly picked up the call. " Hello Jennifer… Where are you? The party is almost over but I can't find you anywhere? Adrian is also missing. Are you both together? Are you safe? Did anything happen?" Jennifer's mother started asking questions nonstop.

"Hold on mom, everything's okay. I and Adrian are at home. We just came back from the party early." Jennifer interrupted her mother's ongoing stream of questions. "Oh thank God! I and your father will be home in 10 minutes." With that Jennifer's mother disconnected the call. Jennifer kept her phone on the bedside table.

"Thank you Adrian. Thanks for the bandage as well as the evening. It was really nice meeting you." Jennifer said. "Welcome Jennifer, it was indeed a pleasure to get to know you." Adrian was about to get up and walk when he stopped midway, "Jennifer can I ask you for a favour? Will you please keep this friendly side of my personality a secret."

"Yeah sure." Jennifer nodded almost immediately without thinking. Then Adrian walked up to the door wished Jennifer goodnight and went back home. Jennifer's parents arrived home and since Jennifer had eaten at the party, She went into her room. She did her night routine, changed into her cute PJ's and laid into her bed but she was restless.

A question was constantly bugging her. Why did Adrian ask her to keep this kind and friendly nature a secret? Did he not want everyone to know how nice he was? Meanwhile Adrian went back home. He went into his room straight away. He laid in his bed without changing out of his clothes. Adrian was tired. His eyelids were heavy but his thoughts were heavier. He kept thinking why he was helplessly attracted towards Jennifer.

Adrian was used to being surrounded by girls. Several girls drooled over him. Many rich, many much more beautiful than Jennifer but most importantly they were ready to do anything for Adrian. But for Adrian, only Jennifer mattered. All of those girls who surrounded him 24/7, who dressed to impress him, who were ready to kill or be killed even for a few minutes of company from him, all those girls never caught Adrian's eye.

None of them appealed to him despite their constant efforts but unlike any other girl this one girl, Jennifer. She had not done anything extraordinary. He wasn't even sure if she liked him but the mere sight of this one girl was enough to make him happy, to bring light in his lifeless days and color to his black and white life. Adrian remembers the time when he first saw her in the school cafeteria. He fell head over heels in love with her.

Adrian was sleepless. He had never been like this. He was confused why was he not able to sleep? Why were the thoughts of Jennifer coming into his mind again and again? It was like a video kept on repeat mode. Confused and sleepless Adrian got out of his bed and walked towards the window. His window gave a clear view of the night sky above.

A cool breeze was blowing. The night sky was pretty but not as pretty as it was when he saw it with Jennifer by his side. The stars were thousand times brighter then. The wind thousand times more pleasant. The night thousand times better than now. Adrian was restless. He had never been in love. He walked from his window to his bed multiple times and after a few hours, ultimately fell asleep on the floor.
