CHAPTER I: The Madman

"THERE IS NO GOD!" A familiar voice echoed through the marketplace. As if the person owned the area, he kept on shouting and found litte opposition.

"THEY HAVE MADE US TEST SUBJECTS, PLAYTHINGS, PUPPETS ON STRINGS!

WE ARE BEING PUNISHED FOR CRIMES WE HAVE NEVER COMITTED!

WE POSED NO WAR YET WE ARE ALREADY DEFEATED!

WE ARE DEPRIVED OF OUR FREEDOM YET WE REMAIN CONCEITED."

"Mom what is he doing?" The child pointed to the man who relentlessly shouted. As if he is in a drunk state of rage where all has been robbed of him, and that might just be it.

"Son don't look at him." The woman covered her sons ears and turned the child around. She leaned down and told her child in a voice that is almost inaudible:

"Son. Listen. You do not see or hear anyone. He is just a part of your imagination."

The child looked at his mother with puzzled eyes. There is someone there said the boy in his head. He knew that most times his mother is right, but on that day, at that moment, every fiber of his being is shouting to him, telling him that something is not right.

"But mom..." The child had his mouth covered by his mother. Her eyes were now worried and anxious and he could see this.

Her mother was filled with worry. The people around them started noticing the scene, placing hateful glares on the mother and her child. They wisphered one by one until the voices became audible

"Not another word Damian. Mom is right. Always."

Seeing the desperation in his mother's eyes, the boy quickly withdraw his ideas. Suddenly he remembered all those moments when his mother was right. She was right when she said that crayons are not edible. She was right when she said that he'd cut himself if he holds a knife. She was right about coffee keeping him awake if he drinks some. She was right about butterflies coming out from cocoons. And most importantly. She was right that his father is an immature jerk.

Yes. Mom is right. Always.

Soon enough, as the boy nodded his head and stopped making a scene, everyone around them stopped looking and went on with their usual businesses. But then he looked at the direction one last time and still saw the same madman. An just like any reasonable person he started screaming in his head, "mom you are wrong."
