5 The pyramid in the forest

I walked in the dead forest for a long time before I heard birds chirping in the trees. the canopy made by the trees started thinning out as I walked further. I started quickening my pace as I realized that I had reached the outskirts of the forest. The trees became sparse as I walked further. I looked at my watch which showed the time to be half-past six in the evening. I looked at the almost setting sun only to be met with the most amazing sight I've ever seen in my life.

The sun looked like a halo on the golden tip of a distant pyramid. The pyramid wasn't like any of Egyptian pyramids that I've seen in the movies, it was a perfect pyramid that looked as if it was sculpted out of a gigantic white marble. I started jogging towards the pyramid. My mind, my body, and my soul were strangely attracted to the pyramid. I mindlessly jogged towards it as if I was under some spell.

As I neared the pyramid, it seemed to be getting bigger and bigger as I approached. I noticed a wide garagelike door as I neared the base of the pyramid. I slowed my pace as I approached it. The silence surrounding the place was deafening. As I got closer to the pyramid, I felt a strange powerful presence. I felt goosebumps all over my body, but I continued approaching the door. My mind was screaming danger, my heart beating madly, but I somehow couldn't will myself to stop approaching the pyramid entrance.

Suddenly, a woman who looked like she's been plucked out of a history book picture appeared. Her upper body was almost bare except the gold sort of circular thing that covered her neckline and breasts. Her lower body was covered by a golden cloth that left both of her thighs entirely exposed from the waist down. Her hair was straight, black and shiny at shoulder length. Her feet were clad in golden sandals. There were famous Egyptian cobra ornaments on her head and the bracelet depicting the same thing on her left upper arm. I looked at her in awe.

'Good evening seeker,' she greeted while standing at the pyramid entrance.' But first, let's see if you're worth His attention.'

I don't know whether the sword that she wielded as she charged towards me was already on her when I first saw her on the entrance or it just materialized from thin air, but now it didn't matter, the woman was thrusting that sword towards me. I narrowly dodged as she tried to hack my arm off. How could someone so beautiful be so ferocious? She thrusted again, this time aiming for my heart. Her thrust was so fast it seemed like a blur, but somehow I managed to sidestep it and got hold of her arm. She turned and I felt the blade coming at my neck at a crazy speed. I let go of her arm and moved in to block the incoming attack.

I had no weapon to retaliate with, and I started feeling hopeless as she circled me slowly. I felt like a cornered rat. She swung the blade with killing intent. I never fought like this before, but it somehow felt natural. I moved in quickly and my fist hit the hand holding the sword. She seemed shocked as the sword fell on the ground. As I was about to earnestly start fighting, she stopped all of a sudden, the sword on the ground disappeared into thin air.

'Please follow me,' her voice was feminine but firm.

'Was that a test?' I asked her curiously.

'Yes, my Master only allows the best to sit on the table with him, ' she replied coldly.

We ascended a flight of stairs which led to a hall with a long table surrounded by twelve golden chairs and a throne-like chair at the head of the table. I looked around the room in wonder, every part of the wall was covered in hieroglyphs. One could feel the power emanating from the walls by just starting at the writings that covered the walls. There was a door behind the thronelike chair at the head of the table. There were identical golden statues of Anubis on each side of the door. The statues were the only statues in the room. The woman led me to another door on the right side of the table. If followed without question. It was actually a passage of about five meters, which opened into a smaller room. The room was spacious. There was a double bed in the middle of the room with a canopy. The golden curtain was fully open. There was a bathtub full of warm scented water at the corner, and a fresh change of clothes.
