Eleonore’s POV
Robert threw me on the ground before I could escape, causing my body to fling into one of the book carts and it crashed to the floor. His body blocked the exit from my view as he stood in front of me.
I gasp left my lungs as I felt the sharp edges of the book cart slam into my back. I saw stars for a moment as I tried to regain my balance, but I tripped on the books that had fallen and fell to my knees in front of the man who had shoved me.
His eyes were staring down at me, something in them that I couldn’t place.
“When you foiled his plans,” he began to tell me. “Bastian issued a letter out to all of his followers, he said if we could get you and take you to him it would be the end of it all. No more names, no more running, we would get whatever it was that he promised us.”
I watched in horror as Robert grabbed a rope from the underside of the counter. “I’m sorry, Eleonore, truly. But these are desperate times.”
