3 My Dual Life Begins

As the party continued and I talked with and met my new family there was a light happy air. Someone pulled out a flute and said "let's see how the human can dance to an elven tone" to which I instantly attempted to back our of as I dislike dancing in public. Unfortunately Xevaltha pulled me into the circle and the tune was struck. There is no way to describe an elven jig its surreal and the music carries you. If you let the music flow through you you will find your body moving on it's own. I slipped into the jig keeping perfect time in the dance with Xevaltha while everyone in the circle clapped and swayed with the tune. The rythm got faster till it was almost a feverish pace. I never missed a beat and everyone was cheering. As the song ended I spread my wings and launched myself into the sky performing a series of airobatic and throwing out magic fireworks along the way. I also picked up the elven art of mist step which allows for short distance teleportation which I incorporated into my display.

I was on top of the world enjoying food and drinks until I was set upon by an old nemesis. My depression always seemed to flare up during highlights of my life this night was no different. I smiled and excused myself walking into the forest trying to fight away the gnawing feeling of what if I can't live up to their expectations, and not feeling good enough for the happiness I was experiencing. I felt a crawling sticky feeling inside my chest. I focused on it and forced it out of me. I took hold of the tar like mass that was moving across my chest and pulled it way and threw it onto the ground. It shifted an morphed standing up and looked at me. It had hollow pits for eyes and a nearly skeletal frame. The fingers ended in hooked claws and it started trying to run at me. This was more like a fast staggering shuffle and I extended my left hand behind me summoning my sword which flew in an arc to my hand.

I drew the sword cloaked the blade in fire slashing at demon which jumped back and began laughing. "you think you can defeat me? You have tried before and failed." I smiled spinning the sword casually in slow circles "It's alwase easier to beat an enemy when you can see the look of fear in their eyes". I held the flaming g sword in front of me, blade pointed straight up in front of my face. I stared at the demon pas the narrow blade and begana prayer "Father in heaven grant me strength against this foe. In the name of the father the sone and holy spirit I cast you off and condemn you. now perish in fire." a mix of terror and rage battled on the demons face as it shrieked and charged me. I made two slashes making an X across it's chest and thrust my sword directly into the center causing the demon to burst into flames screaming and trying to claw at me but was unable to touch me despite being in range of it's claws. "Be gone" I said as I twisted the sword sharply to the right. The flames grew and the demon shrieked as it shriveled up consumed by the fire.

I stood in the dark woods hearing the music behind me and stared at the full moon. I was enjoying the freedom of not having a demon consuming my happiness when Ulisia walked up behind me. "feeling better?" she asked as I turned to her. "much better, thank you" I answered and began walking back. As I walked back through the gate in the wall that surrounded the back lawn I handed my sword to the guard who was standing there looking confused "would you mind hanging on to this for me again?" He took the sword and nodded waiting for Ulisia to come back from the forest.

As I was rejoining the party I noted a familiar aura around a certain guest which I recognised as my instructor. After a while of drinking and dancing Xevaltha and I were coaxed towards the building at the back of the lawn. And after we stepped inside with Saraphina behind us the doors were shut and we were left alone and everything was instantly quiet and I could hear many feet hastily retreating. As I looked around the single room there was a small well stocked kitchen in one corner a wardrobe in the opposite. The largest thing in the sparsely furnished building was a four post bed larger than a king with thin sheer curtains around it. The room smelled of rose and lavender while a low fire crackled in the fireplace of to the left. "Well it's pretty easy to understand what this place is for" I chuckled taking off my long coat hanging it next to the door. I was pulled by my shoulder turning me around at which point Xevalthe jumped into my arms wrapping her legs around me pressing her lips against mine. I walked towards the bed carrying her and Seraphina ran ahead of me striping her cloths off as she went. Needles to say the events following had much of my attention and I was nearly dead to the world on earth. After a few hours we were finally laying in bed I had a very beautiful girl on either side of me using my shoulders as pillows. I managed to bring my consciousness back to earth with some effort which made me slightly nervous like not being able to wake up from a dream.

It was time for our turn over meeting with our day shift counterparts and after that I went to work out. Physical fitness is important and even after a twelve hour shift it's good to do something to improve yourself. After my hour and a half workout I took a shower and went to bed for real.

In the confines of the ship the enlisted sleeping arrangements are small three stacked bunks with an eighteen inch walkway between. The back of the bed is a thin sheet of steel separating you from the other bed. All your belongings have to fit in a school gym locker and the six inch deep storage compartment under your two inch mattress. and the thin curtains are all that separate you from the persons walking in the berthing. so having the ability to cast myself to another realm with an actual bed and privacy was incredible.

Normally when I would stop focusing on having a presence in Feyrune my form would simply vanish. My days were spent getting accustomed to being the prince of house Ardnathil. My father in law is a master elven smith who taught me techniques in forging weapons strength silver as well as mithril. I began learning elven martial arts the Lidmilith form from a from one of my new cousins. I was also appointed to the sky guard.

The sky guard is generally comprised of archers equipped with powerful bows to defend against airial attack. Though with my wings and strength I was in a unique position. As such I was given a location to visit and told my station was to guard the mountains to the north. Once I arrived I found that my area of duty was a sixty mile long stretch of jagged mountains. Without waiting to long I cast a massive detection spell spanning the length of the mountains as well as above and below.

To fuel such a massive spell indefinitely I linked it to the lunar energy. this gave me the ability to monitor all the happenings on, above and below at any time. After finishing my spell I notice a large tree with a square cleared around it. I flew down and landed realizing there was a sizable construction crew building a Japanese style house about twenty feet off the ground in the massive tree.

The forman walked over and bowed slightly wich I politely asked him not to do. After a short conversation I discoved the eccentric treehouse was mine and would be completed by the end of the week. I returned to the manor of Ardnanthil to see how Xevaltha was doing. I found her in her room packing with the assistance of Seraphina. after talking about the new home and try he recent developments I had to attend to some work so I broke focus.

Once I came back after my shift they were giving me a strange look. I learned that I had not completely disappeared as usual but I had appeared to be like smoke or a ghost.

The rest of the week I didn't do much other than practice my spell craft and magic capacity. and when it was time to see my new home I walked through the small town towards the manor after stepping inside the gate I saw Xevaltha checking the ties on a wagon loaded with her belongings. "what are you doing?" I asked walking up behind her. She jumped slightly turning around. "Don't do that!" she scolded pushing my chest.

Seraphina landed on my shoulder rubbing her feathered head into my cheek. Her bird form was about the size of a large macaw at this point. "And for your information, I'm getting ready to leave for our new home" she said checking the last rope. "Well I can see that I mean why are you hooking up a cart?" I replied back rubbing Seraphina on the chin before she shifted into her human form sliding of my shoulder into my arms. "What else am I supposed to do?" she asked.

I put Seraphina down and extended my hands towards the cart making like I was going to squeeze it. Which is essentially what I did shrinking it down so it fit I to the palm of my hand. I turned around holding the cart and spread my wings. Xevaltha stood silently looking at me till she simply said "I forgot you could do things like that." After which I handed the miniature cart to her picking her up and taking flight. Beating my coal black wings we lifted into the sky flying low across the forest with Seraphina on my right matching my speed perfectly.

Within a a half an hour we came to our new home and I landed outside the south gate. A mid sized Edo style house in a massive tree with a circular creek around it. A wall about five feet high with a round gate at each cardinal direction made a large square around the grounds which were a large stone garden. The peaceful aura of the place was refreshing as we walked towards the tree which had spiral steps around the trunk up the the covered porch of the house. Walking in we found the house completely furnished. I took back the cart from Xevaltha and set it in the sizable main hall and returned it to its original size and we began unpacking.
