1 Chapter 1: The Invitation

All around me, the air turned dark. I frantically looked for a ray of light, but there was none. The night was pitch black. I started heading into the pitch blackness. I gradually became more and more frantic till I heard a voice.

"Arthur Albert"

𝘩𝘶𝘩?

When a man with emerald hair and golden eyes appeared in front of me, he had a calm and friendly approach.

"Prince Arthur of the Lowen Empire, welcome. I'd like to extend a hearty invitation to you to participate in The Immortal Games, which are currently taking place in the Elysium Realm. It would be a pleasure to have you participate in the games as a candidate."

I gazed at the man, both perplexed and surprised.

"A total of 30 contenders from around the world are slated to compete. You will also have the opportunity to interact with The Celestials."

"This is not a dream,"

he replied. I was taken aback and stared at him in disbelief.

"you-"

My right arm emitted a flash of light at that same moment. A sky blue bracelet appeared as the illumination faded.

"Um, what is this?"

"This will act as confirmation that you have been invited to the games. It will also be used as evidence of the meeting."

"Let me get this straight, I was chosen as a contestant for this..."Competition".. that is held in the..."Elysium Realm", right?"

"You are correct"

"How did I come to be chosen?"

"It was decided at random who would be chosen"

𝘩𝘶𝘩, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦

"Are the candidates able to decline this invitation?"

The man stared at me blankly, as though surprised by my query.

"They have the freedom to refuse, but we don't have many candidates who do."

"I guess I'm one of a kind then,"

The man's eyes expanded briefly.

"What do you mean-?"

"I'd like to refuse,"

On his face, the man wore a bewildered expression.

"May I inquire as to why?"

"Well, it's a pain in the neck,"

For a few moments, the man was deafeningly

quiet.

"Very well, then"

He then began to drift away. My shoulders began to shake at that precise moment.

"wake up."

I gently opened my eyes to find myself in my room, accompanied by my butler, Mui.

𝘞𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮?

I sighed when I looked down at my right arm and saw that the sky blue bracelet was still there.

"What is it?"

I questioned as I shifted my attention to Mui.

"Jessica, Duke Candium's daughter, has requested a meeting with you."

When I first heard her name, I scowled. Duke Candium is one of the Lowen Empire's wealthiest nobles. He wields a considerable amount of power in this kingdom. As a result of this, his daughter rose to the social ranks. She is well-known for her arrogance and impolite demeanor. She is also notorious for her violent outbursts towards individuals she despises, one of whom happens to be My Fiance.

"Please inform her that I am unavailable."

Mui looked tense as he checked his watch.

"The problem is, she's already here; she's in the guest room right now,"

"What?!  Oh god"

I grunted as I dragged my feet to the restroom, forcing myself to get up. Mui reached into my closet to find an appropriate outfit for me to wear.

I began humming as the lukewarm water splashed across my face. I walked out of the shower a few minutes later and changed into the clothes Mui had packed. Mui was waiting for me as I emerged from the bathroom.

"It suits you perfectly."

I returned his praise with a smile and headed to the guest room with Mui by my side.

I signed while standing outside the guest room.

𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨

I entered the room with a blank expression on my face.

"Good evening, Lady Candium,"

As I walked over to the couch across from her, I inquired. When her gaze fell on mine, she grinned.

"Good evening, Arthur! I can't tell you how many times I've told you to stop being so formal! We're about to become husband and wife."

She pouted and crossed her arms in an attempt to appear adorable.

"I beg your forgiveness, Lady Candium, but speaking in this manner before the marriage is considered disrespectful."

She scowled.

"It's fine, hmph,"

"What has brought you here, Lady Candium?"

"Well, I'm here to invite you to join me on an outing; I've sent many invitations but have yet to receive a response."

She proclaimed

"Please accept my apologies; I've been quite busy."

𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦

"It's fine, I understand. After all, Princess Catalina's birthday is approaching. Have you started thinking about what you'll give as a present?"

She inquired, her face beaming with anticipation.

"I have,"

She lowered her head in disappointment.

"oh"

I got to my feet and prepared to depart.

"Excuse me, Lady Candium, but I must attend  a meeting."

As I walked out of the room, I instructed a butler to take her out.

A nervous-looking maid approached me on my way back to my room.

"His Majesty would like to meet you, y-your Highness"

I frowned.

𝘔𝘺 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘦? 𝘸𝘩𝘺?

The maid led me to the living room. The maid knocked twice and proclaimed my arrival as we approached the room. As I entered, I noticed my father and Queen Ria seated next to one other.

I sat across from them,  my legs apart and my arms resting against the back of the couch.

"Did you make a call for me?"

I remarked casually.

"Yes, Calatina's birthday is coming up in a few days, and key delegates from each kingdom will be in attendance; you had better be on your best behavior."

Father forewarned

"Is that it?"

"you!Don't be so rude!

You have the audacity to say something like that!"

Queen Rai yelled that she'd had enough of my lack of etiquette.

"Calm down, Rai; everything will be OK."

Father gave her reassurance.

"But, honey—"

"If that's it, I'm leaving."

I interjected as I was leaving the room. I sighed as I faded from view.

𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘰 𝘰𝘯 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦

I grinned.

"Mui"

"Yes, your highness?"

"Get the commoner's clothes ready."

"Yes, your Highness,"

After changing into the commoner garments that had been provided and giving my outfit to Mui, I put on a black cloak.

"Your Highness, have a safe journey."

Mui made a respectful bow.

"I'm going to"

I replied as I prepared to leave my room. I took the usual route out of the palace, which had almost no servants, and made it out unnoticed.

I went to Calera Centre, a well-known shopping center for aristocrats and wealthy commoners alike. As I drew closer to the center, the noises became louder, and the air was thick with the scent of citrus.

"Glãce" was the name of the bakery where I entered. The aroma of fresh dough permeated the room as soon as I walked in. The ding of the doorbell alerted the employee to my presence.

"Sir, what can I do to assist you?"

With distrust in his eyes, the worker peered at me.

"one Genoise cake"

As I lifted my hoodie, I answered.

"immediately, sir"

The Worker retrieved the cake I had asked for from the showcase. He then placed them in a small, adorable white box with the shop's emblem etched on it.

"That'll be 1 silver,"

I left the business with the box in my hand and one silver coin on the counter.

I then went on the hunt for a quiet place to eat away from the prying eyes of people. The noises faded as I continued going,  and in front of me was a magnificent river. I never get tired of this scene no matter how many times I visit. I sat by the river and pulled out the Genoise cake I had purchased earlier. I began snacking on a Genoise cake. The silky, eggy deliciousness invaded my mouth, making me sing with delight. I sat back again as soon as I finished my cake. I slowly closed my eyes and fell to sleep as the sun shone brightly on my face. I awoke from my snooze to the sound of youngsters laughing. Standing up, I stretched my arms and back. I began strolling back to my palace. The gathering grew as I retraced my steps back to Calera Centre. It was then that I became aware of a bloodlust. Only a few noblemen, women, and couples were visible when I quickly turned around.

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵?

I took a right into the first shady, ominous alleyway that came across my path. As soon as I was out of sight of the public, the bloodlust vanished. I swiveled in my seat and waited. A well-dressed gentleman arrived, much to my dismay.

When he realized his cover had been blown, he dashed towards me, brandishing a dagger.

I jerked to the right, grabbed his wrist, and yanked his arm up into the air.

I then kicked his leg, knocking him off his feet and causing him to collapse to the ground.

I jumped on top of him, grasping his hands with one hand and his throat with the other.

"Who is it that sent you?"

I inquired, attempting to keep my grip on him.  He remained deafeningly silent as he fought to free himself from my hold.

"Answer me!"

I tightened my grasp on his throat, and he let out a cry for air. Strong pain in my chest prevented me from continuing. I turned around to see another assassin with his blade sunk into my chest.

𝘖𝘩 𝘯𝘰

My body gradually weakened, allowing the assassin beneath me to kick me off. I was thrown to the ground, and before I knew it, I couldn't move. My eyes gradually became heavier and heavier as the assassins drew closer until there was complete darkness.
