The guards opened the doors, and Salvatore entered. As soon as he did, everyone stopped talking. They all stared at him, astounded.

Salvatore looked at his grandmother and walked to her. Alvira immediately stood up and hugged him tightly. Salvatore smiled. He knows she must've been worried sick.

Alvira pulled back and held his face.

"Are you okay, darling?"

"I'm okay, grandmother."

Alvira held his hand in both hands and closed her eyes. Caspian tilted his head, gazing at her. He then peered at Salvatore and saw that he looked used to it.

Caspian saw on Silas that the empress dowager is special. She has a gift, intuitions and they are always right. That's one reason everyone fears her and doesn't dare to lie to her.
