1 The Arrival

NOTICE! YOU ARE BEING TRANSPORTED!

A black mist erupted from the ground around my feet, engulfing me almost instantly and canceling all sounds, smells and other stimuli into nothingness. For a moment I no longer existed. Then I was abruptly spat out into a new world. I flinched at the sudden light, sounds and smells that assaulted me, stumbling slightly. I managed to catch myself on a wall, getting transported was always disorienting. I then carefully began to observe my surroundings. This wasn't the first time, and it wouldn't be the last that i get transported unannounced. My surroundings were of a city, or maybe a town, the buildings looked somewhat advanced, the sun was low in the sky, i wasn't yet sure if it was setting or rising, and the scents in the air were surprisingly very natural and green, it smelt like i was in a forest rather than a city. There were also other smells i didn't yet recognize, but it being a new world to me i wasn't surprised.

'hm, so i wasn't summoned' I thought to myself noticing the lack of persons to greet me. I currently stood in an alley. It was a pretty unfortunate time to be transported since i was in the middle of a hunt, but these things happen so i didn't dwell on it too much.

'system' i mentally commanded. As expected, a low lit almost dull, semi-transparent screen appeared before me displaying the words "YOU HAVE BEEN TRANSPORTED" in the "Notifications" tab. The other tabs spanning across the screen were "Status", "Quests", "Link" and "World book".

A new smaller screen popped up in front of me reading "CURRENT WORLD HAS BEEN ADDED INTO THE WORLD BOOK", not that it mattered though since the world book was always locked until my objective on the new world ended. If i had been summoned, then my objective would have been simple; fulfill the reason for my summon, but this time i had not been summoned, which meant that it was a sponsored transport. Although i have never had contact with these sponsors, often called gods, they liked to drag me to their worlds for home entertainment. I didn't mind since i was created with the intentions of fulfilling the desire of sponsors across the multiverse anyway, plus, sometimes it was even fun.

I mentally flicked over to the "Status" tab on the screen.

"TRAITS:

-ACTIVE-

-Coexistence (locked)

-Partial morph (locked)

-Blood consumption

-PASSIVE-

-Regeneration

-Superiority

-Berserker

POWER LIMITER:

2.3% (Locked)

SYSTEM TRAITS:

-Immortality

-Target translation

-User translation

STATUS:

-Fullness - 10/100

-HP - 100/100

-Corruption - 4/7

"2.3%?" I question out loud 'is that seriously it? Is this an under-developed world? why is the power level so low?'. Typically, the power limiter automatically locks my overall power to a suitable maximum available in the current world. It can also be altered with sponsors since they govern the world they reside on so they can alter the rules within reason but sometimes they like to watch me struggle, my guess would be that that is the case for this sponsor. Deciding to check the mission given i mentally flick over to the 'quest' tab.

"QUESTS

NAME - Rise from Rubble

CONDITIONS:

-Find a 'link' from 'Earth'

???

???

???

Time limit - 10 HOURS

PENALTY UPON FAILURE - Forced activation of 'berserker' trait. After 'berserker' is deactivated the 'coexistence' trait will become locked permanently"

'Ah, it's one of these' i think to myself disdainfully. These quests were always difficult since the first part was like gambling. Initially the quest demands that i link with an entity from this world, but if i choose poorly then moving forward with the quest can become impossible. If i can't complete the quest then i'd have to wait for my link to die so that i could obtain a new link and try again, assuming the same mission is reissued after i fail it. If that happens, i will have to repeat that process until i either manage to succeed or i get reissued a new quest by the original sponsor. But with sponsor's being immortal, time means nothing to them, i once got stuck on a quest like this for at least a few thousand years.

Shuddering at the thought of that happening again i decide to head out of the alley onto the pathway next to the street. To my surprise i didn't come across a single person, it was as if this place was abandoned. Initially i thought i was in a city but as i followed the path along the road i noticed the overgrowth of nature starting to take over some of the structures. After looking around a bit more i started to concentrate on the smells in the air, looking for a potential master.

After a few hours of walking, with the sun getting higher and brighter in the sky i was starting to think no intelligent species existed. I had come across some smaller animals that looked like birds, rodents and even cats, but none spoke in a language. Not long later a notification sounded but before i could read it my body began to transform on its own. I cursed underneath my breath stumbling as my wings sprouted throwing me off balance, my bones reshaped and extended to reveal my true form, it didn't hurt but the suddenness always caught me by surprise. By the end of my transformation i stood at about 6ft tall, my wings were bat-like, wide and incredibly thin, i had a long thin rat like tail, sharp thin claws, pointed ears, red colored vertical slit eyes, my feet had changed to become digitigrade, and my fangs had extended refusing to retract without a meal. I was glad that the clothes i wore were tailored to my original form with wing slits in the shirt and a tail gap in the pants. The notification i had heard could be seen in front of me on a small screen lit up in a dull light.

WARNING COEXISTENCE IS BEING FORCIBLY CANCELED!

WARNING FULLNESS IS AT 5, PLEASE FIND FOOD

I heard my stomach rumble and felt the pangs of hunger but i ignored them. My quest was to find a link, surely my sponsor wouldn't give me an impossible quest, there must be some intelligent races around here. Since i no longer needed to walk i began to fly, continuing on in the same direction but now faster and with a better aerial view. As i continued, the forest got denser and the city got further behind eventually disappearing from sight entirely. I only flew for about an hour before having to return to walking, i couldn't fly in such a dense forest. To my surprise, when i landed i could hear and smell some creatures ahead that were talking in a language. I approached quietly and watched from the cover of the trees.

"Saw human, south, invading" the creature said, i heard the sound of others gasping and shouting the word human in anger. The language was rough and clearly primitive but my time limit for finding a master was running out quickly, they might be my only choice.

"Good find. Gather warriors. To war!"

The creatures were bipedal and green in color. Their bodies were small but muscular, they had short forward-facing horns, bottom jaw tusks and a short rat like tail. They wore ragged clothes made from hunted animals, and bones on their backs for armor. I could also see their huts made from clay, wood and leaves. About 20 of them came running out gathering at the center of their little village, they were roaring war cries and lifting their weapons to the sky. Their weapons were very basic only being clubs of sticks and bones

"We go!" the Leader yells and begins to march, leading the army.
