15 New discovery

He missed the target.

'Its just one'

"Again" Darla commanded.

He took another arrow and aimed the target again. Then he released the arrow.

This time the arrow hit the target but at the side.

Daryn sighed.

'Gods. I still got it. For a moment...'

"What are you waiting for Daryn? Shoot the damned arrow"

Daryn took another arrow and shot the target. No miss.

"Now aim for another target other than that one"

Daryn wanted to kick something. Anytime Darla was in training mode she was just too strict. Ordering him like she was his boss.

Still he did what she said anyway. He aimed for another wooden target on a rock and shot at it.

The arrow hit the target with ease.

"Aim for another!"

He aimed to his right and shot the target there. He then turned to Darla and smiled. She did not miss the smug look on his face.

"We are not done yet"

"Oh i see. You want me to show you more"

"Then finishing them won't be a problem then"

Daryn snorted. He aimed for every wooden target and did not miss one. Darla collected the quiver from him and collected all the arrows from the woods.

She then directed to the bullseye she had hung on the tree. If you could call it that. It was a linen material that had circles inscribed in each other to create an archers normal target.

"Now aim for that."

Daryn nodded feeling confident in himself.

He took the archers stance and aimed for the centre of the bullseye.

And he missed. The arrow struck three lines from the bullseye.

He didn't need the command. He took another arrow and shot for the bullseye but still missed.

Daryn got confused.

'I made the others. Whats different with this one'

Darla commanded

"Again"

He picked the bow and aimed for the bullseye again. But still he missed.

After using every arrow in the quiver, he went to pick the arrows. The closest he had gotten to the bullseye was two lines away.

"Ahh!!" He yelled in faustration.

How bad had he gotten. He could not even make a bullseye.

"Again Daryn" this time she commanded subtly.

He laughed dryly. Then looked at her.

"Just because you missed does not mean you can't try again"

"Take the arrows and aim again"

He collected the arrows and went back to the spot she marked for him to shoot from then took stance.

'She must be enjoying this'

He took an arrow from the quiver and placed it in the bow string then pulled it.

Then it happened. Suddenly his vision zoom on the target.

He saw every detail. The lines on the tree bark. The little contours on the bullseye. He saw it all.

It was as though the target was right in front of him but he could not touch it.

Surprised. He tried blinking the effect away but it nothing happened his vision was still heightened.

Even his sense of smell. He could smell the rich scent from the tree.

'Whats happening?'

He blinked again. This time his could see normally again.

He sighed. Then aimed for the bullseye again and released the arrow.

And he still missed the targeted bullseye. The arrow struck the tree instead.

He took out another arrow.

As he focused. His vision heightened again. Everything became loud. The rustle of the leaves became to loud.

He panicked. His heart rate increased and he could swear he heard someone in his head. He looked at Darla but there was no sign that she had said anything.

Daryn tried calming himself down to keep his composure.

Could be his mother trying to reach him. But still.....this felt different.

He stopped aiming. Brought the bow down and took a moment to calm himself.

If it was his mother trying to reach him he would listen.

And all of a sudden it stopped. Nothing sounded heightened.

"We should pause on the training today. I'm tired"

"Ok. We will continue tomorrow"

"Hmm"

He dropped the bow and headed for the shed.

When Daryn entered into the house, he went straight to the little dining table and sat down.

What he experienced not long ago knocked him off. But he had to keep his composure before Darla so she would not have suspected anything.

This was not how he wanted to reveal things to her....but from the way she reacted, he was sure she did not suspect anything.

But what was that feeling? He had not felt it before now. Selenes interactions never felt like that. He checked his memories and did not see any situation like that.

That sensation. It had felt_wonderful. Like he was one with the surroundings. But it was scary and he could not control it. It just seemed to happen. Was it another of his abilities he did not know of. What triggered it though.

All these questions went through Daryn's head it almost ached.

Then Darla opened the door and came in. Seeing his condition she thought he was feeling bad for not making the shot in the bullseye target.

"Don't be hard on yourselve. It was just a test training to check your aiming ability" then Daryn said

"Yes. And my aiming was terrible"

She frowned then walked to his side and placed her hand on his shoulder

"You were not terrible.....you got the wooden targets"

"I understood the training Darla. I did not know it earlier but my aiming is not fully accurate. The arrows to the wooden targets never made the center of the targets.

What if i was to aim at an enemy or game, and accuracy was needed? I won't make the cut then....another one of my flaws" He said the last part in a low tone ashamed of his own flaw.

Was this how he was to become his mothers champion?

Darla looked quizzed. She did not understand his reason why he was being hard on himself.

"Look Daryn. Those are minor flaws we can fix in due time. The fact you can use a bow is a good start. And i wont mind teaching you"

Daryn look up at her then. Look into her emerald green eyes.

"You will do that for me?"

"Sure"

"Thank you"

She smiled at him. Then let out a heavy breath and tapped his shoulder.

"We just had training. I am tired and hungry"

Daryn gave a short laugh.

"I second that"

"Come on lets eat something. Good thing i prepared something before we went out to train"

She went to the stove section and brought the pot of already made food to cook on the lit stove. Daryn felt relieved by the energy she offered. It helped his mood.

When she had finished heating the food. She dished it and they both ate.

"I'll be going to the local market next week to trade for some things we will need"

"Is the local market far from here"

"Not that far. Just the next village away. About a days journey on foot. I plan on doing all the trade in a day and making the trip back the next day"

Daryn nodded to show he understood her. Then they continued their meal in comfortable silence.
