10 Another world

Even worlds can not come in between the love of a mother and her child. No matter the mother.

Selene's son lived in a world known to the gods as abandoned. A world consumed by war and the hatred of men chanelled towards themselves and their world. Strangling its essense.

The child knew this was not his world...his home for there was no sign of his mother anywhere. No kind silver eyes looking at him, watching over him. His mother had left him. Alone. To fend for himself in an unknown world that reeked of corpses and war.

Giant birds that made noises and pooped fire flew over his head everytime. He decided to wait for his mother to come back and take him home.

The little Daryn looked for shelter under rocks. No structure apart from the natural felt safe right now. After staying a day without his mother he began to cry. He cried begging his mother to comeback. He knew from the bond they had that she felt his pain. Then why has she not come for him.

A soldier off duty returning to his home passed little Daryn's rock and saw him. He stopped on the way and went to the rock the boy hid in.

"This is a dangerous place you are son. Where are your parents?"

When little Daryn did not answer, he concluded that maybe the boy's parents were dead. The veteran felt pity for the little boy.

"What is your name boy?"

"Mother called me Daryn" he answered very cautious of the elderly man but the man only smiled lovingly at him. The man extended his hand to little Daryn.

"Ok Daryn would you like to follow me. This place is not safe you would get sick." but Daryn denied the man's hand

"No i will stay here. Mummy would come for me" The man sighed this was not going to be easy.

"Oh. I will take you to your mummy. Come with me its not safe here"

"Do you know mummy?" Little Daryn eyes sparkled in expectation.

"Yes i know your mummy. I'll take you to her. Its dangerous out here"

The man tried to persuade him to follow him. He would have forcefully taken the boy but he knew that will only make the boy afraid of him and become cautious. The boy had to follow him willingly.

He was happy when the boy started crawling out from beneath the rock. When little Daryn took his hand, he hastily carried him out from that place.

The soldier took little Daryn to his home. He introduced little Daryn to his family. A small family consisting of the soldier, his wife and his little daughter he called Emily.

Daryn was either two years or a year older then the girl. The girl had chubby cheeks and brown hair. She looked lovely and friendly.

That night, the soldiers wife served him twice his meal saying she had made extra. Daryn ate it all and thanked her. She smiled at him and left for the kitchen.

When the family had finished eating, the husband and wife pair showed Daryn to a room where he would sleep. The room was already prepared earlier.

Daryn slept better than yesterday. The best sleep he had since his mother brought him to this world.

The next day, Daryn didn't see his mother sadly. He went to the soldier and asked him if he had heard from his mother.

The soldier looked sad but hid it with a cheerful facade

"I spoke with your mom yesterday she said she is busy that is why she has not come since. Not to worry she will come when she is done"

Daryn smiled after the man said that and skipped happily away.

The soldier looked at his wife with a sad look. His wife returned it in understanding. Then she came to his side

"He misses his mother"

"Yes he does. But i doubt he would find her again...if she isn't dead"

"Where did you find him"

"I found the poor boy abandoned beneath a rock in battle territory"

His wife sighed

"His probably the last in his family..alone"

"Yes. We will have to make him forget. Subtly. To reduce the pain of it"

"Gregor how do we do that? He clearly has not forgotten his mother yet" his wife asked

"We just have to introduce him to a new family and make him forget the former family Helen"

"That won't be easy though" Helen was already feeling the stress of changing the boy.

"It won't, but it will be effective in the long run. Emily already likes him. Besides you said you needed a boy. What if this is god's way of answering your prayer" Helen went into deep thought.

"Don't think about it too much. The boy is good. His god's blessings"

And just like that little Daryn became a part of the Bernard family. He eventually forgot his birth mother and Azra and the Bernards were the best family any child at that time could ask for.

Gregor was later called by the government to go fight for his country. Another country his was at war with had managed to penetrate the border and was giving heat to the troupes. Soldiers were called back to camp and assigned to battle the enemies at the borders.

On the day Gregor Bernard was supposed to return from battle camp, he did not return. Information came that he had died in battle.

Helen broke. She cried everytime the children found her. Her sadness eventally seeped into the children. Living them sad as well.

Daryn was sixteen year old by then. He stepped up for the family. Calculating the taxes and bills each month.

Then he opened a shop in front of their house where he sold clothes that fourteen year old talented Emily had made. With that extra source of income, the family stayed afloat financially.

Five years later, Mrs Bernard died. Leaving a matured Daryn to stand for the family. He and Emily eventually got married not long after her burial but they bore no children.

No one continued Daryns legacy even after he died. Maybe it was part of the curse his mother placed on him or his genetic system didn't match with a true human.

It could even just be nature keeping the balance. Afterall he was going to be reborn after he died, but through all the lives Daryn lived, he never had children. There were some memories were he even died without getting a partner.

Through the memory Daryn saw the life he had lived. He felt both joy and also anger. Joy in knowing Selene was not lying when she said she was his mother.... that his deep connection with her was not a ploy. Anger for how he was seperated from his mother and a blood chilling thirst for revenge for those that had deprived him of his mother's care.
