24 A Small Fortune

After her unexpected defeat, Freya remained sitting on the floor even many moments later, seeming in a daze. Her right hand was gently pressed against her neck, where Bai Tian had poked with his finger.

'I can breathe again… What the hell just happened? Did he use some kind of restriction magic on me— No… He's a Martial Artist, so he cannot use magic.'

Seeing Freya's condition, Fiora quickly rushed over with a concerned look on her face, "Are you okay? Do you feel pain anywhere?"

"Relax, I didn't injure her even in the slightest." Bai Tian calmly said.

Freya ignored Fiora and lifted her head to stare at him with a deep frown on her face.

"How… What did you do to me just now?"

"Nothing much, I only sealed your soul for a few seconds, which took away your control over your body."

"You sealed my soul? What kind of nonsense is that? If you don't want to tell me, just say so." Freya sneered.

Since she wasn't going to believe him, Bai Tian didn't bother trying to convince her.

"I can't believe I lost to a level 32— a Martial Artist at that. If the others find out, I will definitely become a laughingstock!" Freya uttered, and she could already imagine it clearly.

Bai Tian then asked her, "Do you know why you lost to me?"

"Why?"

"Because you underestimated me. Since your stats are obviously way higher than mine, my technique wouldn't have affected you as much if you didn't look down on me. Never look down on your opponents, no matter how insignificant they may seem at glance."

Freya sneered, "Easy for you to say. Your stats are a mess. Nobody would take you seriously if they saw it. Also, I am level 107 and you are only level 32. It would be weird if I didn't look down on you!"

Fiora sighed, "Anyways, I have completed your evaluation, Black Heaven. I can tell from your fight with Freya that you are very experienced in combat, and since you actually managed to defeat a Gold-rank Adventurer, I personally want to let you start out as a Silver-rank Adventurer, but due to your low level, I can only make you a Bronze-rank Adventurer. Most people start their career without a rank and require a year to become Bronze-rank, so you are already a year ahead than most."

"If you want to become a Silver-rank Adventurer, you will need to reach level 60 and complete at least 1 Silver-rank commission."

Bai Tian then asked, "What are the ranks?"

"Starting from no rank, we have Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Obsidian, Crimson, and Pearlescent."

"I see…"

"Since we are done here, I will complete your registration right now. It should be done in ten to fifteen minutes." Fiora said.

"I understand."

"Wait."

However, Freya stopped them from leaving the room.

"What is it?" Fiora raised an eyebrow.

"If I hear any rumors about me after this, I will kill both of you, got it?"

"Even though it's against the rule to kill a fellow Adventurer?" Bai Tian smiled.

"Hmph. You must be very naive to believe that everyone will follow the rules. More Adventurers die to other Adventurers than to monsters, which should tell you something. Anyways, I will really kill you if you start running your mouth, got it?"

Freya left the room ahead of them afterward.

"Don't mind her, Black Heaven. She may act harsh, but she's just putting on airs, trying to act tough." Fiora smiled.

"I know." Bai Tian said as he left the room.

"He knows?" Fiora raised an eyebrow.

Sometime later, Fiora went to look for Bai Tian, who was in the hub.

"Here is your permit, which can also be used as a form of identification." Fiora said as she handed him an ID card that was entirely made out of copper.

[Adventurer Permit]

[Name: Black Heaven]

[Rank: Bronze]

[Class: Martial Artist]

"If you ever lose this permit or wish to update the information, you can do so at any Adventurer's Guild." Fiora said to him.

And she continued, "Now then, you'd like to sell your materials, right? Follow me, I will access the materials."

"How many duties do you have?" Bai Tian asked, seeing how she is doing pretty much every job.

"My role is pretty versatile, since we are trained to do almost everything." She said.

Sometime later, they entered this room that had nothing but a large metal table and a machine that looked like it scanned items.

"You can place all of the materials that you want to sell on the table. I would also appreciate it if you can organize them based on their uses. For example, leathers and skin materials will go in one pile while Mana Crystals go in another."

Bai Tian nodded, and he proceeded to dump out everything he farmed the past several days.

Fiora became speechless after seeing the small mountain of materials, becoming shocked once she realized where they came from.

"Sharp Talon and Taurus Horns?! Did you really hunt them at your level and with such low Health? That's reckless!"

However, her shock went to another level when Bai Tian took out the Mana Crystals.

"Mana Crystals?! There's no way you actually acquired them yourself, since you can only find them in Dungeons! And the lowest ranking Dungeons out there have a recommendation level of 50 at the minimum!"

"Does it matter where or how I got them?" Bai Tian asked her.

"As long as they were not acquired through unethical means…"

"Then you have nothing to worry about."

If Fiora knew that he'd entered a dungeon and even cleared it by himself, who knows how she'd react.

"Anyways, we calculate the cost of these types of materials by their weight, so if you don't mind putting them on the scale— the machine for me. Oh, and please weigh them separately."

"Okay."

Sometime later.

"I have finished calculating the talons and horns. How does 30 Gold Coins sound? The talons are worth 50 Silver Coins per kilo while the Taurus Horns are worth about 2 Gold Coins per kilo, and you had 10 kilos of talons and 12 kilos of horn. You will not get more than 25 Gold Coins if you were to sell them to other places."

"I'm fine with 30 Gold Coins." He nodded.

"Very well, then let's move onto the Mana Crystals."

As Fiora changed the settings on the machine, she spoke, "When it comes to Mana Crystals, we only measure the mana it contains within, since that's the only thing that we want."

A few minutes later, she said, "Low-grade Mana Crystals usually contain about half an ounce of mana liquid, and a single ounce is worth 10 Gold Coins— at least in the Adventurer's Guild. Your 240 Low-grade Mana Crystals came out to have 125 ounces of mana, so we can give you 1,250 Gold Coins."

"They are worth that much?" Bai Tian was pleasantly surprised after hearing their value.

"Of course. Dungeons are not easy to come by, and they are very dangerous. Furthermore, Mana Crystals are always in high demand but very short in supplies, as they have countless uses, from making potions to crafting powerful weapons."

"Is that so… Then what about this?" Bai Tian took out his Medium-grade Mana Crystals.

"Medium-grade Mana Crystals?! They usually only drop in Silver-rank Dungeons by monsters above level 100 or Dungeon Bosses with a lower level!"

"So what are they worth?"

"The quality of mana liquid that we can extract from Medium-grade Mana Crystals is far superior than Low-grade ones, so they are worth about 200 Gold Coins per ounce, and a Medium-grade Mana Crystal usually contains two to three ounces of mana."

"I have two, and I would like to sell them as well." Bai Tian placed them on the machine.

After measuring them, Fiora said, "They had 5 ounces combined, so we can give you 1,000 Gold Coins."

"Sure."

In the end, Fiora paid a total of 2,300 Gold Coins to Bai Tian for his materials, even giving him 20 Gold Coins extra as bonus, which made him feel as though he suddenly had a small fortune.
