14 Inheritance

The voice was hoarse, like that of an old man, tempered by decades of accumulation and knowledge. Like an old grandpa Grim's master once mentioned. Apparently this old grandpa was nearing 160 and still had most of his bodily functions still active, even moreso after the discovery of Element X and was a warrior who fought monsters on a large scale and was levelling up nicely.

" Sounds like a kind image. "

Grim was startled once more.

' Who is it ? ' His thoughts spun and he tried to wave his hands around to try to conjure the ball of flames again, even if just once. If the other party could not be seen at all, at the very least, he would like to wave around the flames wildly. The flames SHOULD hit something, even if they deal no damage.

" Brave. " The voice seemed to mutter to itself. " But timid and scared of yourself. Ages past I met a child just like you. "

The voice paused here and a gust of wind seemed to pass by Grim. Grim was more shocked now than before.

' This... power... It should not be possible to generate winds just by sighing. '

The voice seemed to not notice his thoughts this time, or maybe did not care enough to do so. It still continued.

" She gave herself up for my world. That courage, even in my whole life I had rarely seen it. " The voice seemed to be reminiscing in an old memory Grim had no way, or interest in knowing. The voice however wanted to talk to him, so he had nothing to do but listen. " We called her the Goddess of Twilight. She was one of the strongest of us old eternals. Sadly, it's been centuries. "

Grim was trying to hold himself together, because the more this voice spoke, the more a kind of pain was being transmitted through his body and mind, which felt like his body tearing itself apart, and repairing itself over and over.

But still, grim had a handle on things. He still had enough control over his mind and body to remember a few key points. Even as he struggled to force himself to fall on the ground and not remain standing he had learnt some things that seemed to be of importance.

After all, information is power.

The key points were :

First, This old voice was an eternal. The strongest being according to the information he had collected till now.

Second, The owner of this was was centuries old, and according to him, there were many many more of his status that much time ago.

Third, Earth, the planet he lived on wasn't the planet the owner of the voice lived on all that time ago.

Fourth, From the way he talked, it seems the assumed 'he' was extremely long lived.

" Smart. " The voice said with a slight chuckle. " I am indeed just a dying eternal of a destroyed world, but becoming eternal isn't the end. Our seniors had us learn that the hard way. The weaklings of your world are having a much simpler time than us inheriting wills from my old eternal friends. " There was another gust of wind, and just like last time not even the leaves of the trees moved, except for grim feeling it with his body and mind. " We have made it much easier for you to inherit at least some of our powers, how much you get is fate. Your world's path should be easier than ours."

The voice became silent but the pain Grim felt still kept increasing, as if it had no limits, causing him to want to shout to the sky, but his body still refused to move.

But his mind was still working on what he heard just now even as he felt like slitting his own throat. He kept repeating in his heart ' Information is power. Information is power. Information is power. Informa... ' and figuring out whatever he could from the new input.

Points to note:

The danger system is flawed.

The owner of the voice is dying.

The Land of Inheritance is the Inheritance of a destroyed world.

The old eternals also had eternals before themselves.

Earthlings are, as expected, much weaker than residents of the owner's world.

The powers I have are inherited from 3 eternals who are old friends of the owner.

Our world is on the same path as theirs, but they, for some reason are making it easier for us earthlings.

Wil...

Grim's thoughts didn't continue further, as his body didn't stand any longer. He fainted and fell on the ground, but not before he heard an elusive sound in his ears, murmuring to his deepest conciousness.

" Don't come back to the graves till you can stand equal to the ones in them. "

A man walked through the forest, wearing black clothes and a suitcase on his back.

He seemed to be thinking of something as he stared at the body laying thousands of meters away from himself. He walked towards the forest slowly, with slight arrogance in his steps.

" He isn't your heir, chanter. What you have done already should be the limit for him. " Another man appeared next to him uninvited and caused the man called Chanter to sigh.

Chanter looked at the unconscious body again and wondered what to reply, but in the end just sighed once more before shaking his head and saying " Neither is he yours, Blade. But I made a promise to the Son of Flames before he was forgotten. Let me at least send the only heir of his' to a safer place for when he regains consciousness. "

Blade looked at the unfortunate heir of one of the strongest of their generation of eternals with a dissatisfied gaze as he muttered " He could've chosen either of us, but he had to go ahead and get himself in trouble." He took out a dagger out of somewhere and seemed to be thinking of something while playing around with it.

Chanter sighed again and looked towards the kid who looked like a corpse on the ground and said " I passed down part of my will, now it's your turn. Let us give him all the support we can, after all he is the only heir of our old friend. Unfortunately, he was the only eternal to only have left his artifact before being forgotten. "

" Overconfident. Even more than me. " Blade muttered.

" But the saviour of the land of inheritance regardless. " Chanter replied.

" But he doesn't follow my path of blades. " Blade said resolutely .

" Neither my path of music. " Chanter said indifferently.

Blade looked at him weirdly and laughed " Still won't admit your path is guns ? "

Chanter looked back at him, smiled and suddenly said " Bang ."

A cry of a man and the sound of a gun echoed in the forest under the fortress titan.
