Beginning Exploration of the New World

"So I suppose the first thing that's in order is to give myself a name. I feel like a name is a necessity to interact with others. But what to name myself? I don't even know what other people use for names. What if I choose something odd and people judge me forever for an odd name. I suppose this isn't something that I should be rushing towards right now... Alright well let's wait a moment and explore then and try to discover some people on this barren world. Perhaps they can assist my dilemma with my name."

Our main character travelled for a few hours towards the direction the sun was setting. From the knowledge he had he figured he was going east and assumed he would find something sooner or later. After a few more hours he stumbled upon something that he couldn't even believe. It wasn't a person nor an animal. It was an endless abyss that was so deep and dark he couldn't see nor hear the bottom when he through a rock down it.

"Goodness if I fell down here I'd be sure to suffer greatly. However now I'm greatly curious what could possibly be at the bottom but without knowing what I'm capable of it would be a suicide mission. I'll wait for now and hopefully return to this spot later. It appears this goes on for miles both directions and is about a mile wide. I'll surely discover and find what happened here sooner or later." Our nameless one says.

After discovering the abyss he turned and started to walk down a side of the abyss and look for anything that resembled tracks. A few more hours passed and he found a forest but the abyss was still there. The nameless one decided a forest was better then the barren wasteland he had traveled in and would make camp here during nightfall.

What was very strange was that even in a forest it was oddly and creepily silent throughout the forest and he discovered something else strange. He knew most people would require food and water to survive yet he felt no thirst and no hunger after traveling all day. This caused him some perplexing thoughts but he waved them away as he drifted into a slumber..
