The awakening ceremony

Every year children from the age of twelve through sixteen are tested to awaken their powers. Commonly referred to as gifts. It is to be known that the older the child gets the lesser the chance they have of awakening their gift.

"Alysa Clark! Step on the stage and put your hand on the crystal." Says the overseer. 'Damn this is boring. Over thirty kids and only seven of them awakened. And all of them had such stupid powers.' One kid can control animals but only ants. Another had laser vision but he's blind. Another can transform her body into wood but she's unable to move, hear, or see while he's in that form. Let's just see what she gets.'

"Say status open" says the overseer.

"Status open!"

"Okay, do you see anything."

"Yes, there's a blue screen it says telekinesis."

'Whoa that's an awesome power someone whispers in the crowd. Not as awesome as my laser vision'

Shut up, what's the point of laser vision if your blind. Still got laser vision' the boys whispers putting his head down.

"Jace!" Shouts the overseer.

Jace walks up to the stage. "Step onto the stage and put your hand on the crystal."

After doing what's he's told the overseer asks the same thing he asked the girl before. "Do you see anything"

"Yes, I see a black screening."

"What does it say"

"It says Darwin's Legacy."

'Whoa that sounds familiar. What does it mean.' Shut up, you think I pay attention in class.

I don't either, that's why I'm asking you.'

"Interesting" says the overseer. "Do know what Darwin's Theory is?"

"Yeah, it has to do with the law of the jungle right, survival of the fittest. You evolve or you die."

"Yes."

"Alright everyone, ceremony's over. A package will be sent to your home if your gift is deemed good enough to be nurtured by academies."

Oh, and Jace I hope to see you academy entrance tryouts. Says the overseer turning around and leaving.

After returning to his house and going to his room Jace lays on his bed as his vision goes black.
