3 Fire-breathing Cub

Tiredness seeped into her bones as she locked Roma's apartment which would be her temporary abode during the mission. Long term hypnosis spells really dries up her magic reserves that she usually doesn't touch. It felt like exercising a limb she hadn't used for a long time.

Her phone beeped and she immediately answered, "What's up?"

Low masculine voice rang out, "Are you free?"

"I'd really like to say no but I am. What's wrong?" she replied reluctantly.

"Are you done with the secretary?"

"Yes, I've sent her on an extended vacation somewhere nice. Now, stop going nowhere and tell me what happened, Anton," she spoke his name with emphasis to prove her point.

"We got a taboo sighting not far from you. I was about to check it out but one of the cubs is throwing a tantrum and now I can't get out of the reservation," he explained.

Tantrums are our code for malfunctioning magic and the young ones are prone to it as they can't control their powers very well yet.

"It's fine. I'll pick it up. Just send me the coordinates and the profile. Do you need me there?"

"We can handle it. We're just preoccupied at the moment so I can't get out but can you not bring the new one here yet because it might agitate the others again."

"I don't think that's smart. At least, the reservation has wards but the building here isn't equipped for out of control taboos," she disagreed.

"Merda is there, isn't she? She can take care of the new one temporarily."

She hates it when he's right. Anton's one of the longest guards in the reservation and she trusts his judgment. "Alright, I won't bring the new one back and I'll tell Merda it was your idea," she snickered.

"Tell her all you want. She won't talk to me anyway," he joked back but she heard a hint of pain in his voice. Nope, she won't touch that landmine.

Her phone beeped again and she saw all the information she needed. "I got the information. I'll get going now."

"Be gentle!" he reminded then ended the call. What's he even saying, she's always been gentle.

She checked the profile and all she can see are blanks except for the coordinates. Oh goody, nothing on what type of taboo it is too. She can already feel a headache coming.

An hour later she arrived into the entrance of a dead end corner full of stinking trash and flies buzzing everywhere. She stepped forward and suddenly a bolt of fire welcomed her. She jumped sideways fast and looked at where it came from. Claws gripped the side of the trash bin and glinting eyes stared back at her. Oh goody, a fire-breathing cub.

She grinned and started to step forward again when a blaze of fire flew in her direction immediately. She ran forward on one of the piles of trash to use it as a platform and jumped on the other side of the trash bin. She kicked it forward and piles of garbage scattered and a grimy disoriented lion cub emerged. Ley can't believe she's actually seeing a lion cub. One of the almighty lion shifters actually fell from grace.

She gave a little laugh and a low growl from the cub answered her. We got a feisty one here. Her ears picked up soft steps coming from the entrance. Someone's coming their way and she can't afford onlookers right now. She quickly retrieved a syringe on her pocket and injected the cub with a tranquilizer. The cub went out like a light and she proceeded to pick it up and walked right back at the entrance with an added disguised cub in her arms. She passed by someone wearing a hood which made her looked back.

The wind brought her the smell of someone who shouldn't have any business there. Magick. After putting a good distance between them, she ran like hell without looking back. Just when she was about to feel relieved, sounds of running came from the back and she's hundred percent sure the guy is chasing them. Is the cub his goal? That can't be right. Turning towards a secluded route, she increased her speed while cursing all the way. Their chaser certainly used speed enhancement spells to catch up with them.

Ley looked at the unconscious cub and took a deep breath. Well, if he wants to chase then I'll let him chase all he wants. She led the guy into a wild goose chase then went straight into their building. She ran without slowing until she encountered two familiar faces on each side of the road. She didn't stop and just yelled, "I've got a tail. Make sure to capture that magick alive. I want him to be identified."

She only stopped running when she arrived in front of the entrance of a building where a lady waited for him. As usual, Merda has impeccable timing. Ley gave the cub to her outstretched arms and asked, "You saw already?"

She looked up at Ley and the eyes usually covered by her bangs reflect blankness. Merda had never been able to see the world like the others, what she saw was beyond the superficial. She nodded at Ley and cradled the still sleeping cub in her arms.

"This cub is in danger," Merda whispered.

"Have you seen anything? Anything to do with Magicks?" she asked urgently.

"No nothing concrete yet just a feeling for now," Merda shook her head. Merda's abilities lies in precognition, sometimes she saw complete images, but most of the time all she got was feelings and vague scenes.

"Good timing too. Anton doesn't want this little one transferred in the reservation yet. I'll leave her to you first. I'll just get a change of clothes upstairs and please prepare the cub for the binding process."
