11 Confrontation

Ley halted her steps when she heard a snarky voice behind her. She mentally sighed since she can already guess what this is about.

She turned around and kept her expression as neutral as she could while saying, "I think there's been a misunderstanding."

Upon seeing who she was talking to, Ley had the sudden urge to just walk out and not touch this mess here. From what she heard from Siri and Roma, this is Barbara, one of Landon's many brief flings, a socialite and infamous for clinging to high society bachelors.

Barbara was wearing a blood red skin tight long gown which leaves almost nothing to the imagination. She was gazing at Ley with her chin slightly upturned, radiating disdain at what she's seeing.

"Are you pretending to be dumb or are you really dumb?" she asked with scorn dripping every inch of her voice.

Ley's mouth twitch at her words as she convinced herself why it's bad to scratch the face of this stupid human.

"What? You think you have hope with Landon? Dream on" Barbara sneered at her, interpreting Ley's silence as humiliation.

"You've got it wrong. I'm actually just Landon's secretary," Ley clarified as best as she could when all she wanted to do was bash this girl's face to the wall.

"You'd think I believe you? Landon doesn't bring his secretary to this kind of events," she scoffed at Ley.

That's what I told him!

She screamed in her mind from frustration with being stuck to deal with this annoying situation. She had enough of this already and turned her back on Barbara to head for the exit again.

She was just a few steps away when she felt a hand clamped on her arm.

"Did I say I'm done speaking with you?" Barbara hissed at her.

Ley's patience ran out and she snapped. She grabbed the arm and twisted it until she had it against Barbara's back. She pushed her roughly all the way to full body mirror.

"This is the last time I'm saying this. Get it inside your brain. I'm. Just. His. Secretary" she whispered menacingly on Barbara's ear against the sound of her whimpers.

She saw the back of Barbara's dress and an insidious idea popped up in her mind.

Few minutes later, she was striding out of the place when a frustrated scream rang out behind her.

She headed for the parking lot with a good mood when her ear registered strange sounds. She was still a few meters away from where they parked the car and she was hearing hushed whispers around that place which gave her a bad feeling.

She took off her heels and circled around until she got a clear view of Landon's car.

She saw two guys with masks tinkering in the car and a security guard lying on the floor passed out. She whipped off her phone from the clutch and contacted Siri through text.

***

Ley: Need help! ASAP

Siri: It's after 5 pm already

Ley: DOUBLE!

Siri: Deal. What do you want me to do?

Ley: Jam the CCTV in my location for 10 minutes.

Siri: Easy-peasy. Go in after five minutes.

Ley: Make some trouble there. I think they've got someone in the control room too.

Siri: Done.

Ley closed in on them silently behind their backs. She poked the nearest one and when he looked back at her, she welcomed him with a punch to his jaw which knocked him out immediately.

The other masked guy popped his head out due to the commotion so she grabbed his collar and pulled him out of the car in one breath before slamming him straight to the ground.

Ley ripped off his mask and saw a guy starting to turn blue from the pressure she's putting on his neck.

"Who ordered the hit?" she mercilessly asked while simultaneously increasing the pressure.

The guy kept on shaking his head and she doesn't have all the time in the world to keep waiting so she grabbed his hand and broke his pinky finger which made the perp grunt in pain.

"I'm gonna start snapping all your joints for every second you make me wait. Who ordered the hit?" she said emphasized by the sound of bones snapping and another grunt of agony.

By the time the guy started to speak she was done with the bones of his arms and about to start with his feet, he opened his mouth but no sound came out.

Ley immediately removed his hand from his neck and the guy started speaking between gasps of pain, "It . . . was posted. . . by so-"

He was about to reveal who ordered the hit but he suddenly stopped unnaturally. His eyes bulged creepily and his skin started disintegrating into powder within seconds until there was nothing left. She quickly look at his partner and saw that he was gone too.

Ley felt a sickening feeling in the pit of her stomach. The only phenomenon that could explain what happened to them was that they were cursed to silence. Curses means there's a magick involved in this affair and that changes the whole thing.

This is bad. This is really bad. What the hell do they want from Landon?

She felt her head going through circles, trying to make sense of everything. She felt her phone beep and saw Siri's message to hurry it up.

She got into the car and look at what they're fiddling with before. She looked at it and realized they were trying to install a bomb set to detonate once the car was started. She felt a burst of fury at her realization and slashed at it with her elongated sharp nails into unrecognizable bits.

She picked up the bits along with the clothes of the killers and hightailed it out of there while throwing the pieces to different trash bins.

***

Few minutes after Ley was gone, a man walked into one of the trash can and picked up some bits of the bomb. He stared at the CCTV for a moment while looking at where Ley disappeared to then he started to laugh creepily.
