Savior

It happened about 5 years ago. Blanc had no memories left of his life before that incident. The owner of the orphanage found Blanc in the ruins of a pillaged village. Blanc was very cold to everyone at first. He wouldn't play with or talk to the rest of the children. All he did was stay in his room and stare at the wall by his bed. He had no memories and he couldn't find a purpose in life.

Seeing the lonely Blanc made the owner very concerned. This way he wouldn't be able to be a part of the society when he grows up. To get him used to socializing, the Owner started telling bedtime stories to him. He didn't react much to those, until the day the Owner mentioned the Holy Knights.

"The Holy Knights?" asked Blanc with spark in his eyes.

"Yes, the Holy Knights" confirmed the owner.

Seeing the gloomy Blanc so interested in something made his heart flutter. He had finally found the key to his heart, or so he thought. Little did he know that he ended up inspiring Blanc in a weird way.

"I'll be a Holy Knight when I grow up too!" declared Blanc with his chest puffed out.

The owner could only gently laugh at that.

This was how he ended up wanting to become a Holy Knight.

Blanc gently opened his eyes. It was rare of him to dream of the past. He saw an unfamiliar ceiling. It was mostly dark in there. The only source of light was the moonlight coming from the window by his bed. He seemed to be in some sort of an infirmary. There were curtains separating him from the rest of the room. Wanting to explore more of his surroundings, he tried to get up.

"Ouch! That hurts!" he cried.

His whole body hurt when he tried to move. Only now did he notice that he was covered in bandages.

"What a pain..." he lamented.

Moving as slowly as he could, he positioned himself in an sitting position. His whole body felt sluggish.

"Damn, how long was I asleep" he muttered to himself.

"You were asleep for 3 days you jackass" said a familiar voice as the person in question drew the curtain in front of the bed and entered his compartment.

"What were you thinking? Do you even realize how worried we were?" said Lia with tears in her eyes. There was a hint of anger in her voice. Her hair was unkempt and she looked tired. It seemed that she was sleeping and had woken up because of the ruckus that he was making.

"Were you here all this time?" he asked with concern.

"How could I leave you alone in this state?! Your wounds were terrible! There was blood everywhere! I- I" her voice cracked.

"I thought that you wouldn't make it" she said with a cracking voice. Tears began to flow down her eyes.

"I'm... just glad that you are alright." she said.

Blanc raised his hands with great effort.

"Come here"

"But.. your injuries"

"Don't worry, it's okay"

She dove into his chest and hugged him. Tears rolled down her cheeks like a waterfall. It hurt. There was no way that it wouldn't hurt. But he wouldn't dare say it, for he felt that she had been through much worse in the past few days.

"Everything's fine now, it's okay. I'm back now." he consoled her as he patted her back.

"You're never gonna risk your life like this again, you hear me? Never again. Promise me." she cried.

"Yes, I promise." he assured her.

He held her as she cried her heart out.

It was a long night.

***

Morning came earlier than expected. Blanc was awoken by the gentle rays of the sun illuminating his compartment. After confirming that Blanc was okay, Lia left for the orphanage in the morning while he was sleeping. After all, without her, the orphanage wouldn't be able to function properly. Shortly after waking up, he had his first visitor. It was his doctor.

"Blanc, was it? I heard that you woke up last night. How are you feeling?" he inquired.

"I'm feeling fine. My body felt extremely sore yesterday, but now I feel well enough to move around." said Blanc.

"I see. Your recovery has been incredible. We rarely come across such cases. It would normally take months to recover from the state that you were bought in. Some damage would still be irreparable." said the doctor.

"What?! I don't remember sustaining such wounds! I was only struck once by a sword and I was punched a few times. But other than that, I had no injuries!" exclaimed Blanc in a surprised tone.

"The problem weren't the external wounds that you suffered. They were like a drop in a bucket of water." explained the doctor.

"The bad part were your internal wounds. Your muscle fibers were shred to pieces, your tendons torn, your bones cracked and some broken." he continued.

"We didn't have any hopes for you. We were certain that you wouldn't live much longer."

"How could this be?" asked a shocked Blanc.

"The cause of the wounds seemed to extreme movements that your body wasn't able to handle. You somehow managed to break past the limits of your body, but it wasn't able to bear the strain." said the doctor.

"Just what did you do to get to that point?" he asked Blanc.

"I- I don't know." said Blanc. He remembered that he did indeed gain power temporarily through some means, but he had no idea about how it happened.

"Oh well, don't worry about it too much, but I wouldn't recommend doing this again, unless you have become attached to this hospital." joked the doctor as he let out a fry laugh.

"While you should be able to leave today, I'd recommend staying here for the day to recover fully. It's up to you really. Oh and you seem to have a visitor." he said.

"A visitor?" asked Blanc.

"Yeah, he'll be coming in shortly. Now then, I'll take my leave. Do take your medications in time and you shall be fit as a fiddle before you know it." said the doctor as he prepared to leave.

"Alright, thank you doctor" Blanc thanked the doctor as he left his compartment.

Blanc wondered who this visitor was as he waited for his arrival.

***

Blanc was bored out of his wits. He was reading a book that Lia brought for him. That was the only way for him to kill time. Then suddenly, he heard footsteps approaching his compartment. As they reached their destination, the footsteps came to a halt.

"Is it alright to enter?" asked a deep voice.

Blanc realized that this must be the visitor that the doctor was talking about.

"Yeah, please do" he replied.

On his cue, a burly man in a sturdy looking armor entered his compartment.

it was the man who killed the demonic beasts.

His savior.

Well, the events dragged out a bit longer than I expected. I'm sure that you might be looking for an explanation (so is Blanc), and you shall get it soon. In the next chapter!
