8 Night Terrors, Begone!

The smell of copper filled Archie's nose, reminding him of coins. Archie rushed forward, using adrenaline to ignore the pain in his body. His red eyes continued to shake as he rushed forward, swinging his sword at the Night Terror, who just seemed to laugh. It took a swing the the right-hand side of his body once again, this time his blue translucent armour protecting him. He was flung towards the window in his room, the glass cracking upon impact, but not shattering. Archie quickly stood up, but the Night Terror was upon him, trying to stab Archie in the eyes with its claws.

Archie dropped to the ground, finally noticing that none of his belongings were in the room anymore. Even the bed that he had woken up in was gone. His room had become a battleground of nightmares.

Archie rolled away from an overhead attack by the Night Terror, who embedded its claws into the floor. Noticing this opportunity, Archie stood up and rushed towards the monster. With shaking hands, Archie lifted the sword over his head and swung it down towards the Night Terror's neck, but to his shock, it just passed through. There was no resistance, which means that there was nothing to cut there.

Archie tried to swing at it once again, but the Night Terror turned its head to face Archie. It's eyes flashed, and Archie was paralysed. He wasn't able to move. The Night Terror made use of his chance, and punched Archie in the chest with all of its strength, sending Archie flying into the wall. There was a small crater in the wall because of this. Archie coughed up dark crimson blood, his mouth now tasting of the same copper he smelled earlier.

'Fuckin' hell. What even is this bastard?' Archie swore mentally, giving up on speaking properly as he fell face-first to the ground.

{Aside from being a Night Terror, he's an obstacle in your path to becoming stronger. You'll receive a reward for defeating the Night Terror. Dying here also means that you'll die in real life.}

'Well, I could father that considering I'm dying right now!' Archie yelled back in his mind, breathing heavily, yet silently, as he stood up, staring the Night Terror down. 'I have no skills and no redeeming stats. All I have is my mind, my armour, my sword and my dying body. I have to succeed somehow.' Archie realised as he pointed his sword at the Night Terror. He rushed towards it, prompting it to laugh again. Archie swung his sword in the exact same motion as he did last time, causing the Night Terror to try the same move he did last time. However, as soon as Archie noticed the Night Terror moving their arm, he tossed his sword into the air while dropping to the ground to avoid the attack.

As he felt the Night Terror's fist fly over his head, he stood up, grabbing his sword by the handle as he got up, using the falling momentum of the blade to deal a diagonal strike to the Night Terror, prompting it to scream once again. However, Archie didn't stop there this time. He kept slashing, getting faster and faster as he kept slicing through the Night Terror's body. The sound of flesh separating and monstrous screaming was all that Archie heard as he continued to taste blood. No matter what he thought was going on, he had to keep attacking. If he stopped, he'd probably die.

However, there just came a point where there was nothing else to slice. There were blood stains all over his body, monster blood mixed with his own. The Night Terror's blood was a deep purple, while his was crimson. Archie finally stopped swinging, his muscles aching as he dropped his sword, falling to his knees. His body wanted to collapse right then and there, but Archie wouldn't let them. He didn't want to die.

Archie watched as some of the body pieces began to piece themselves back together, and all he could think about was why they wouldn't die. Archie looked over towards the "head" of the Night Terror, and finally realised that its eyes were glowing. Those were it's source of power. With what little strength Archie had in his body, he grabbed his blood-covered sword and crawled over to the eyes. The irises of the Night Terror shrunk when they saw Archie approaching, almost appearing to shake in fear. Archie smiled evilly as he saw the fear in the monster's eyes, as this told him that his assumption that he was right.

Archie quickly shoved the sword through the right eye of the monster, which immediately slowed down its regeneration process as the Night Terror let out a screech of pain. Archie pulled the blade out, preparing to stab the other one. In a final attempt at killing Archie, the Night Terror regenerated its arm in full and tried to crush Archie's spine. However, it missed his chest, destroying his right leg instead. Not even his armour was able to protect him from the bone-shattering attack. Archie wanted nothing more than to scream in pain, to faint and let his life end like this, but he couldn't. He wouldn't.

Archie gritted his teeth as he pulled his arm back, his adrenaline wearing off as he did it. He pushed his arm forward, piercing the left eye of the monster, an ear-piercing scream ringing through his nightmarish dream. A bright yellow light emanated from the dying body of the Night Terror. An explosion of blood soon followed, a small artefact falling into Archie's hand as he passed out.

Archie had successfully killed the Night Terror.
