13 Last Moment of Peace

There are some who scorned Feng but worse, there are also who want to punish him for his actions. That is why as soon as the envoy left, Feng ran.

He ran as if his life was on the line!

[Go! Go! Go!]

No one stopped Feng. He's still just nine, humiliating him for his childish actions is just low. But not everyone thinks of that. For example, Jun.

"Feng!"

The village was small and didn't cover a whole kilometer, when Feng was about to exit the village and near his home, he heard a shout and saw his parents waving at him. They were standing in the middle of one of the mountains.

The trio met up and Boqin immediately asked.

"What happened back there? Aren't you the one the military raised their hand to?"

"Dad, I'll explain but we should move."

Boqin and Fei looked at each other and just did as Feng said. Feng then narrated the whole story as if he was surprised at what happened, shocking the couple.

"What!? You and Lin can just meet up now and then, why didn't you just pick the military!?" Boqin shouted and suddenly had the urge to spank this idiotic son of his.

"Ah! Wait! That's not the end of the story!"

Feng then said about the entrance examination. But while he does, the couple couldn't help but think what Jun and his goons will do next.

The weak are trampled and the strong are revered. That's always been the case. If Jun went to them and destroyed their house, the village wouldn't do anything about it but turn a blind eye to it. If Boqin and Fei did complain to the village chief, either they will be ignored or the village chief will only lightly punish Jun just to say that there is justice in that village.

"We can only move into the city..." Jun said.

Fei and Feng didn't expect this because that is a dumb move. Yes, the valley is safe from beasts and hidden from bandits. But that is not the only reason. The valley is filled with weak people. Sadly to say, Jun and Fei are quite fitted there.

If they were bullied there, how much more about the city?

"What about we move to another village?" Fei changed Jun's plan.

"Hm... yeah, that can also work. But I wonder, is there an accepting village out there?"

"Let's just see..."

At the end of the day, Feng looked back and saw their lone house. For nine years, he stayed there, grew up, and became who he is today.

Joke, he received Raysam's soul or memories, he's not clear but Raysam is prominent within him. He is wholly different from Feng before. That is not to say he is no longer that Feng though.

Anyway, they moved out in the night. They walked and walked. As cultivators, they could at least have energy even if they do not sleep for one night.

"Does it move on its own?" Boqin asked.

Fei, who was wearing a smile, shook her head.

"Then it's not alive, huh."

"Is it solid?" Feng then asked which Fei responded with a nod.

"Yes."

"Can we find it on the ground?"

"Yes."

"Can we see it right now?"

"No"

"Ah... what is it?" Boqin slapped his forehead.

"Dad, you still haven't guessed anything yet." Feng commented before making his guess, "Do people use it?"

"Yes"

"A rock!" Boqin replied.

"Dad, there are a lot of rocks around here! Did you forgot that we can't see it right now?" Feng rebuked while Fei laughed out loud.

"Hahaha!"

"Ugh... I just tried guessing, I forgot, okay?" Boqin's face became red, "Then how about a sword?"

"Nope" Fei shook her head.

"Dad, you just wasted a question. Don't ask specific ones."

Due to their boredom, they were playing games which Feng recommended them to play. They laughed and played until when Fei wiped her forehead, Boqin suddenly took her and carried her like a princess.

"Ah! What are you doing!?" Fei was startled.

"I see that you're tired, let me, the strongest one here, carry you two." Boqin then squatted and said, "Feng, grab onto my back."

"Okay" without hesitation, Feng jumped, almost making Boqin lost balance.

"Damn brat!"

But Boqin was able to carry them well. After a few minutes of walking, he said with a serious tone.

"Fei, Feng... I'm sorry for being a useless father."

Fei and Feng were caught off guard.

"If only I'm a little bit stronger, nothing like this would've happened."

Silence shrouded the family. In the middle of nowhere on top of a grassy plain, a family of three could be seen as one.

Only Fei could see that Boqin was stopping himself from crying. His eyes were becoming teary as his expression would constantly twitch.

Fei only sighed and raised her head to kiss Boqin's cheek.

"I fell in love with you not because I seek strength but just because you're the one I fell in love with. You can cry, you know."

Hearing this, Feng raised an eyebrow.

"H-huh!? Who said I'm going to cry?!" Boqin shouted while Fei laughed and wiped the tears and snot from his face.

Feng didn't know what to say. He could only think of one thing.

'Once I get another slot, I will make Dad and Mom stronger...'

He didn't know at that time... that was their last moment of peace.

...

...

Feng woke up to the sound of weighing horses and their gallops. He was starting to feel his senses come back to him. That was when he felt his hands and feet are tied up together. But the strangest thing was - he couldn't feel his cultivation level!

'What's happening?' he thought.

[Feng! You're finally awake!]

'Oh, Rumia, baby, what happened?'

[Don't baby me! You're in trouble! You and your family got kidnapped!]

'...'

As he was reminded of Rumia's words, Feng recalled what happened. He and his family were just about to set up a tent made up of old clothes sewn together.

That was when they felt the ground shake and from afar, clouds of dust were rising.

R-run!

He recalled his father's shout. However, a weird swooning sound could be heard from above right after that. Feng could feel a sharp pain on his thigh as he saw an arrow stabbing him. He looked at saw that his parents were in the same state That couldn't be just a mere coincidence.

Feng could only remember the last image when he saw a group of men, riding on horses come at them.

His breath began getting faster and heavier. He looked at his thigh and saw that it was sloppily bandaged.

[That rope that is used to tie you is made from a material called Qi-Hampering Mineral. It is impure and at its lowest quality but it is enough to temporarily seal the cultivation of Third Stage of Body Refinement Cultivators and below... I think. But still, that is enough to reduce your cultivation to nothing.]

'Where's... Dad and Mom?' Feng asked as if he didn't hear Rumia explain.

[Umm... they... they were caught too.]

'Hm...' Feng calmed himself down, 'What a joke... what a joke... what a joke...'

Hearing this repetition, Rumia could see Feng stopped trembling and regain his composure. She finally realized the reason for Feng's thoughts and words before.

After a while, Feng's eyes wandered from left to right. He saw that there are other children in a similar state as he is. Most of them were crying, some were unconscious, and the rest were expressionless. The rest were not calm just because they were expressionless. Feng could see in their eyes that they were void of life.

'Okay... it's obvious who just kidnapped us.'

[It is?]

'They are a group of lawless men, specialized in plundering, invading, kidnapping, robbing, and all things awful to anyone or any group they could find.'

[What...?]

'They are bandits. I assume that it is because we came out from the safety of our village that we were found and this happened. What a dangerous world it really is... it's not even a whole day but we are already in this situation...'

Feng's smile became wider and wider. Other children who saw him felt like they were seeing a demon-possessed child.

'A cruel joke,'

[A crueler comedian... ugh... I hate to say it but it's still edgy.]

'You'll get used to it.'

[So what will you do now?]

'I have no idea.' Feng bluntly thought as he looked around. He has no idea where they are or where they are going. But what surrounds them was similar to them. A carriage pulled by horses, carrying captives.

Behind those horses were roguish men. Some were laughing, others eyed the captives, and the rest were intimidatingly quiet.

'I wonder what cultivation levels these fellas are.' Feng looked around. Even though he seemed calm on the inside and outside, his eyes had a piercing glare as he looked at the horse riders, or more specifically, the bandits.
