68 NPC or Player… or both?

A few hours later, Luke reached the periphery of a certain town. Thinking about if for a while, Luke remembered this was the same town he had been to before, and it was the town that gave him the knowledge about him not being limited to level 40 like the players, and not having bottlenecks like NPCs.

This was the town of Roberto.

Luke stopped the bike a little distance away from the town, and got off, telling Lucy to take care of it while he was away, before strolling towards the town, the huge mass of flesh, blood and boned following him from behind.

The towns-folk were scared whittles by the large wave of things following behind hooded man and raised the town's defences. The guards quickly assembled outside the town gates, which was fortified with a wooden fence nearly as tall as Luke.

Seeing the situation suddenly take a turn for the worse, Luke stopped moving forward in the air, and settled down on the ground.

"Who are you! What do you want with the Roberto and her people?"

"Why are you guys so on edge? I'm here to sell materials to the Guild of Magic. Got any problem with that?"

Luke moved on to display the two silver lines on his robes indicating he was a grand mage of the guild of magic.

Seeing the lines, everyone relaxed slightly, since although most of the magicians in the Guild of Magic had a few loose screws, they still tried their best to protect Leon. At least those who were native to Leon.

However, many of the stronger warriors and guardsmen who knew what that rank meant tensed up, and froze completely for a moment before rushing to apologise for the inconvenience.

Luke waved them off and flew towards the Guild of magic as the crowd dispersed, leaving behind a single person, who was staring at Luke while hidden under a hood.

This person was a young man, with a deep scar travelling across from his left eye, going down and finally cutting across his chest. The scar itself also seemed to have been made recently, as there were still bandages around certain parts of it which had not healed fully yet.

'The Sage, I will have my revenge sooner or later.' The man swore an oath as he turned to leave, following the crowd and disappearing into the shadows of the town.

Luke suddenly paused mid-air as he read the notification.

'Boyfriend? Brother? Husband? Lover? Friend. Must be one of these. But I do not know where he is, and a C- mission is not worth the time, especially one which I do not know how to complete. Plus, there is no time limit, so I'll just leave this for later. But still, such a mission was not supposed to exist in the first place.'

'This should be from the so-called butterfly effect of changing the past. I need to be more careful form now on, or else I will lose the competitive edge I have over the player; information about the future.'

Although he had to be careful, he needed to change the future in order to remain relevant in the player's eyes to complete his plan of escape.

'So I will have to change things, but just enough not to affect the general flow of major events in the future. I hope…'

Luke turned his attention back towards making his way to the guild of magic.

*Clang clang*

Luke entered the door, and the bell rang, attracting the attention of the receptionist. The receptionist was a plain looking fellow, around the same age as Luke. The receptionist took one glance at Luke, looked at his mask, and then at his sleeves, before widening his eyes and rushing out of the table across the entire general hall and up the stairs frantically.

This naturally attracted some more attention from the mages present, and they all looked over towards Luke and noticed his identity.

"It's the Sage!"

"Shh! He'll hear you!"

"Of course, he can hear you. He is a respected Grand Mage after all!"

"Hmph. I heard he is only 19 years of age?"

"Nonsense! I heard he was an old fellow using magic to maintain his youth!"

Hushed whispers began to circulate for some time before dying down. Magicians were naturally busy people since they had to memorise spell books. Unlike players who could spend a little exp and instantly understands spells, and for some, after level 30, could spend some more exp and get even more spells, and Luke, who could instantly copy the books into his mind and read it over time naturally with just a part of his intelligence, and he also had the exp hole, the fully NPC magicians could only spend years to learn and master spells and knowledge.

Now that Luke thought about it, although the system gave him the category of NPC, he also had many privileges of player, with many of the privileges of NPCs. It was almost the best of both worlds. Except the revival ability of players, and he did not want to test out this perk any time soon.

Soon, the door to the room the receptionist had entered was opened and an old aged man exited.
