17 Augment The Flesh

Holding a vial, I carefully juiced the Fairy Queen's blood into a vial. After the vial had filled substantially, I mixed in a few herbs to cover the taste of iron and to change the liquid into a dark purple color.

Some might call me a monster for killing someone I had just become friends with, but I didn't mind.

I was only focused on my revenge, if becoming a monster meant killing the God-Thing that had subjected me to my torturous existence, then I was more than willing.

I shook the vial around to make sure everything had mixed properly. I had no intention of letting Amily know what I had just done.

Well, not until I had gotten what I wanted from her.

....

Amily was waiting for me at a small campsite she had set up a distance away from the forest. As soon as I walked out, the brown-haired, energetic Sister immediately began bombarding me with questions.

"Charon, what took you so long?! I was beginning to get worried, the forest got so quiet all of a sudden and I was worried something had happen-"

I raised my hand to cut her off. I reached down and grabbed the vial of disguised fairy blood, holding it up to Amily's eyes.

"Hey boss, I did my job. Mind drinking this real quick and giving me the information I want?"

Amily's eyes lit up, jaw dropping in amazement.

"B-b-but I thought Cat'duah said that-"

I sighed and did my best to pretend to look tired. Of course she would be curious as to how I found the Fountain of Knowledge, but I wanted to avoid talking too much about it to avoid any chance of her catching onto any lies I would tell her.

"Well, it took a bit of convincing, but she eventually gave me a bit of the Fountain's water. Long story short, I got us banished from the forest, but I got what we came for. Happy? I'm tired, let me relax."

Amily stared at me in confusion and bewilderment. She began to open her mouth, but I shot her a glare to convey I DEFINITELY didn't want to talk anymore about the details. Amily got the idea, and promptly closed her mouth. Then she began talking softly.

"Well, I guess I can wait if you're feeling tired, so I'll ask you about the details some other time. But.... thanks Charon, for all of this."

I laid down and sighed, muttered out a half hearted "welcome" and stared at the sky.

"So, going to drink it yet?"

"Oh!" Amily suddenly remembered the vial I gave her, and uncorked it.

"Now I'll finally be able to figure out how this new (Bioweaver) class I have works...."

Amily quickly downed the vial before a disgusted grimace plastered her face. It seems the concoction I mixed wasn't the tastiest.

"Ugh, it tastes like bitter medicine! I hope this begins to work soon, or I think I might start to regret drinking this..."

I chuckled at Amily's childish response. I suppose I still had a soft spot for innocence in my heart if it elicited joy in me. Slightly annoyed at my introspective realization, I quickly stopped smiling and chuckling, rolling onto my side to face away from Amily.

"Well, feel any different? Learn anything new?" I asked in a cold voice, attempting to seem tired and grumpy, and was definitely not trying to compensate for the mirth and slight vulnerability I had shown earlier.

Instead of a prompt reply as I had usually expected from Amily and her talkative nature, I received a response of silence.

...

After a few minutes of waiting, I decided to sit up and see why Amily wasn't responding. Maybe she was upset at how I was acting.

However, when I directed my gaze towards Amily, my heart sank and I began to panic a bit.

Amily was standing up, her eyes rolling into her head and foam forming in the corners of her mouth.

"Hey! HEY! AMILY! DON'T DIE ON ME, I STILL NEED YOU! HEY!"

....

(Amily's perspective)

The last thing I remembered before passing out was the awful taste of the liquid I drank and my excitement to finally learn how to be a proper BioWeaver.

The moment the liquid finished sliding down my throat, my brain was immediately assailed by an indescribable amount of information. A splitting headache formed, and I felt my eyes begin to roll into my head.

And then I passed out.

.......

When I woke up, I saw Charon sitting next to me, dampening a rag and placing it on my head. His weird, three-eyed crow stared down at me from a nearby tree.

Charon walked away, tending to a boar he placed on a spit-roast over a fire. Next to him was a strange, six legged monstrosity. Upon seeing it, I panicked, terrified of its appearance.

"W-W-What is that?! Get it away!!!!"

Charon quickly looked over to me, a look of surprise on his face. The monstrosity leaped, seemingly vanishing into Charon's shadow.

"Woah, Amily, its okay. Calm girl, calm.."

"I'm not a horse!! What was that thing?! Why did it- ow!"

I laid back down in pain as a splitting headache formed. Charon got a water-skin and had me drink from it with a sigh.

"Well you saw it, might as well tell you. That thing was Biggie, my other familiar. He got us the boar while you were passed out. Don't ask me anymore questions about him, that's all you need to know."

Charon's voice became slightly threatening towards the end, so I decided to shut my mouth. I huffed in irritation. He didn't have to threaten me, I trusted him! Well, to a certain extent, but....

Ugh, I wish my headache would go away....

After several more drinks of water, I got to a point where I could sit up and move around without to much discomfort. Sure, my head still ached slightly, but I didn't want to just sit around!

.....wait, I know things now! Like, BioWeaver things!!! I reviewed all of this new knowledge in my head, and jumped up and down excitedly. I can do it! Now I just need something I can....

I turned to look at Charon, who was shoving chunks of boar into his mouth. He stopped and stared at me.

".....what do you want?"

"Um, can I experiment on you a bit? Please?"\

.....

(Charon's perspective)

When Amily asked to experiment on me, I guessed she must have expected some resistance.

I replied indifferently.

"Sure, why not?"

The look of shock on Amily's face was plenty entertaining to watch. Well, if she messed up on the modifications, she could just undo them. Plus, it's not like I would mind any pain. I'm constantly suffering from it anyway due to the curse of my weapon, [Death's Key].

Amily stammered nervously.

"U-um.... what would you want me to do first?"

"well, could you make it so I can regrow limbs?"

Amily looked shocked at the idea. Ugh, why can't she just take the request as it is and not looked so surprised all the time?

I mean, it is pretty entertaining, but still.

Amily pondered for a bit, then looked at me with slight dissapointment.

"Well, it seems I can't do modifications of that level yet, but I could make it so you could heal minor wounds almost instantly?"

Hoooooh, not bad. It wouldn't help too much with combat, but at least I could spend less on bandages and more on my food supply. Not that I was pressed for money, but more food never hurt.

"Then please, go ahead."

Amily instructed me to sit down in front of her, and so I did so. She then placed her hands on my back, closed her eyes, and took several deep breaths.

An intense itching sensation immediately assailed me as my flesh began to shift and move around, causing my skin to ripple.

....I hope I won't regret this.
