1 THE MEETING

Vincent young is an orphan who has been living with his grandparents. The only thing he knows about his father is that he was a baseball player and that he died when he was three. Wanting to know more about his father he asks his grandfather about him

Vincent: Grandpa?

Grandpa: what's up kiddo?

Vincent: can you tell me about my father?

Grandpa: yeah, why not? what got you curious though? you lived with us since your mother died a few years ago and you were never curious about him.

Vincent: well, I guess I wanted to know more about him. What kind of person he was? What were his hobbies? And how did mom fall in love with him?

Grandpa: well young man, I don't know about how your mom fell in love with him, but I know your father was the kindest and most trustworthy man I know of. always there when his friends needed him. He was also very stubborn, I guess it came from being a catcher.

Vincent: Catcher?

Grandpa: Yeah, he was a baseball player, could've been the best if he didn't die too early.

Vincent: Do you have any videos of him?

Grandpa: yeah, there should be some. Go ask your grandma about it.

Vincent: Okay.

Vincent ran around the house trying to look for his grandma only to find her in the kitchen cooking dinner.

Vincent: grandma?

Grandma: yes dear?

Vincent: Do you know where the videos of father is when he was playing?

Grandma: yeah, they should be in the storage room in a red box.

Vincent: thank you

Vincent ran to the storage room to find the red box beside some old beaten down gear, which he thought was his fathers

Vincent: ' this should be the gear he used when he was in high school.

Vincent went to his room and plugged the tape in his tv which played a high school game.

As he watched the game, he felt his blood pumping encouraging him to go out that instant and play

Vincent: ' What is this feeling? it's like I want to be there on that field and play with all my heart.'

When the video ended Vincent decided he was going to be a baseball player. The only thing, he didn't know anything about the sport except the positions.

Wanting to know about the sport his father played and loved he went to his grandfather to teach him.

Vincent: GRANDPA!

Grandpa: What?! and stop shouting I am not that old yet.

Vincent: sorry. Can you teach me how to play baseball?

His Grandfather was shocked never he thought that his grandson would want to play baseball.

Grandpa: Why do you want to play baseball?

Vincent: I watched the video. At the end when dad's team won, and they celebrated, they were smiling and crying while hugging each other. I want to know how that feels. Giving it your all and not having any regrets.

Grandpa: alright then kiddo, wake up early tomorrow, we'll start your training then.

Vincent: Yes sir!

After convincing his grandfather to teach him, Vincent ate dinner then went to sleep. turning right and left in his bed he couldn't sleep as he was too excited for tomorrow.

Morning came and after breakfast, Vincent and his grandfather was in the backyard talking.

Grandpa: Before we start, what position do you want to play?

Vincent: Catcher!

Grandpa: Just like your father huh

Vincent: Yeah! I want to be a better catcher than him

Grandpa: Well kiddo, as long as you train hard and never give up, you'll be able to do it.

Just like that, 5 years went by, Vincent his now 14 years old. Those 5 years were the worst five years he ever lived. From morning to night, he would do different kind of workouts, only breaks he gets is lunch and dinner.

Grandpa: I guess that's everything I can teach you. Tomorrow, go to the batting center ask for the owner, tell him I sent you and that you're my grandson.

Little did he know that tomorrow would be the day he will meet his partner. they got called the superstar duo.

The next Day

After breakfast, Vincent left for the batting center just like his grandfather asked.

Vincent: Hello?

???: Just a second

From the Back A tall man with a red mustache came out and stood in front of him

???: What can I do for you?

Vincent: Hi mister, my name is Vincent and my grandfather told me to come here.

???: What's your grandfathers name?

Vincent: Ezekiel.

???: ohh? you're his grandson.

Vincent: You know my grandpa?

???: yeah, well I knew your dad, he was my best friend.

Vincent: Oh! You knew my dad?

???: yeah, we played baseball together. Name's Keith

Vincent: What was he like?

Keith: The best player I encountered.

Vincent: That's what my grandfather said, he could've been the best if he didn't die too young.

Keith: Your Grandfather's right. Well kid what position do you play?

Vincent: Catcher

Keith: ohh? just like your father huh?

Vincent: Yeah

Keith: well kid all I can do for you is let you catch and hit some balls.

Vincent: That's enough for me.

Vincent and Keith talked about a lot of things including his newbie experience with baseball and how his grandfather taught him

(Ian Pov)

Ian: *sigh* ' just another boring day. when can I find someone who can catch my pitch? Whatever, let's just work on my batting.'

Ian went to the batting center only to see somebody catching balls of the 150 kmh machine

Ian: hey boss, who's that?

Keith: hey kid, him? *Points to Vincent*

Ian: yeah

Keith: Son of my old friend.

Ian: haven't seen him before, is he new?

Keith: just started learning about baseball 5 years ago

Ian: huh. well, he got good reflex. mind if I play catch with him?

Keith: be my guest

Ian starts walking towards Vincent then called out to him

Ian: Hey!

Vincent: *points to himself* me?

Ian: yeah you. wanna play catch with me? I think it's better than catching balls off of a machine.

Vincent: sure, why not

they spent the next few minutes warming up

Ian: you ready?

Vincent nods then crouches down to position and waits

Ian: here I go

Ian winds up then throws with all his might towards Vincent's mitt thinking he wouldn't be able to catch it but to his surprise Vincent does.

*thud*

Ian: *shocked* How can you catch my pitch?!

Vincent: Wasn't i supposed to?

Ian: That's not what i meant, it's just nobody has been able to catch my pitch before

Vincent: oh, guess I'm the first

Ian: ' probably the only one' What's your name?

Vincent: Vincent. Vincent Young

Ian: I'm Ian. Ian Rose

Vincent: Nice to meet you

Ian: Likewise

they then proceed to shake hands. That was the day that the superstar duo was born and blazed through competitions which gave them the title of " Best battery of the Sport."
