Face Manipulators

'Make-Up experience?! Make-Up set?! Seriously?! Where's the pill that could make me overpowered!? What about my flying sword!?'

Claude felt restless, but before he could complain any longer, he felt a gush of cold air streaking through his brain and tons of information regarding make-up began surfacing. In fact, Claude even felt that the images that appeared in his mind wasn't about make-up, it was pure witchcraft.

'If I have the required tools, I think I could make an Orc into a Goddess!' Claude muttered excitedly.

Be it an Orc, Troll, or other hideous creatures, he thinks that could turn them into a fairy with the required tools.

At this moment, another screen popped up in Claude's vision.

[Sudden Mission: Sell 50 Professional Make-Up Sets.

Time Span: 20 days.

Reward: x1 Gift Box. Basic Skill Card.

Punishment: Removal of Make-Up Experience.]

Reading the last line of text, Claude's body suddenly shuddered. Although he didn't like the fact that he was rewarded with Make-Up experience by the system rather than other, more powerful abilities, it is still, after all, a unique skill.

He was well aware of the worth of the skill after assimilating it into his mind, and if he guessed correctly, Legend Rank should be the pinnacle in regards to skill ranks. And who knows when he will get another gift box, and should he receive one, there's no guarantee that he would receive the same ranked skill.

While he was in the middle of shock, the timer already started to count down. He was about to panic when he heard a knock from the door.

"Who is it?" Claude asked, his voice quivering.

"Brother, can you let me in first?"

For a moment, Claude was rooted at his spot. But it didn't take long for him to recognize the voice. 'Fatty!'

After closing the mission prompt, Claude walked towards the wooden door and opened it. He was met with a slightly plump kid, about his age, who had his head down.

Without waiting for Claude's consent, the plump boy went inside the shop, dragging the chair that Claude brought outside along with him.

Naturally, Claude knew who this kid is as he was the one who frequently gave this world's Claude a job. Just by guessing, Claude knew that this kid must come from an affluent family.

"What's wrong, fatty? Did your cat steal your breakfast or something?" Claude remarked, revealing a toothy grin.

Fatty sat down on the chair with a loud poof. However, he still didn't answer Claude's question.

"Your breakfast must have been a delicacy if you're acting like this..."

"It's not about my cat. I've already whipped his ass long ago. This time is different..." There was tinge of melancholy in Fatty's voice.

"Is it your dog this time?" Claude inquired once more.

In the previous owner's memories, Fatty had all sorts of pets in his house. Some of his pets are even bold enough to steal his food.

Fatty looked up and gazed at Claude with a serious expression and asked, "Am I really that ugly?"

Faced with such an abrupt question, Claude didn't know how to respond.

"Answer me honestly, bro..." Fatty urged.

"N-No, you're not. In fact, you're... good looking" Claude replied with a pained expression, "It's just that... you're quite fat, so your good-lookingness is hidden."

A grin formed on Fatty's face, "You could've just said that I'm handsome on the get go,"

Claude almost wanted to throw up blood because of how narcissistic this kid was, but he resisted the urge and asked, "Alright, I take it all back! Seriously though, what happened to you?"

From what he learned of him in the previous owner's memories, Jack was the happy-go-lucky type of person, so it was weird for him to see Jack like this.

The grin on Jack's face vanished and was replaced with a bitter smile, "To be frank, a girl rejected me."

"What was... the reason?" Claude asked in a hesitant manner.

Considering Jack's previous question, Claude believed it to be because the girl who rejected Jack called him ugly. Although he knew that, he also knew that it was better to be quiet and to hear it from the man himself.

"She said I was fat and ugly!" Jack whined, "Who is she to call me, the God of Handsomeness, ugly!? She wasn't even that beautiful!"

"Maybe she was right..." Claude remarked with a dry laugh.

"Oh shut up! You're face is not better either!" Jack said, "If things are still going the way they are, maybe I should ask father to hire me a Face Manipulator..."

Face Manipulators, like its name implies, could alter the faces of people, albeit temporarily. Even though it's temporary, people still hold Face Manipulators in high regard due to their skill of altering faces.

"Wait, Face Manipulators?" Claude asked, confused.

Is it like plastic surgery? Given the current technology of the world, plastic surgery is impossible! Claude thought.

"Considering your status, it's normal for you to not have heard of Face Manipulators," Jack said, "To be honest I don't quite know the occupation as well. In fact, I only knew about it because I overheard it from my father's conversation with one."

"Can you... tell me what you know?" Claude asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.

Although he doesn't know why he had this feeling, but the more they talk about Face Manipulators, the more Claude's gut feeling tells him that it is connected to Make-Up.

"I don't really know much about them, but I'll try," Jack said thoughtfully, "It was said that Face Manipulators are able to alter the faces of someone temporarily. If a Face Manipulator is of a high rank, I heard that they are able to turn some ordinary looking bloke into a fairy!"

"However," Jack continued, "Like I said, it is temporary. No matter how much you pay the Face Manipulator, at most, your new face will only stay for a day. In my father's conservation with a Face Manipulator, it was said that if one sleeps with their new face, their face will melt!

'Isn't this... the definition of Make-Up?'

If he had some doubts earlier, after hearing what Jack said, Claude was now sure that a Face Manipulator is basically a make-up artist of this world.
