1 The Beginning (1)

Many years ago, when modernization had not been thought of, there existed a coven of witches. People lived in huts and commuted on feet, through carriages or by boat.

It made sense that there were witches. Back then, people went to a witch, wizard, sorcerer or sorceress for many things. For healing, for wealth, to have children or for protection.

Most of the time, divinations were performed to see the future.

And in every coven, there are twelve main witches and wizards.

They all mastered a particular power according to their zodiac or star sign. All the powers relating to the control of the earth. Many people saw this mastery of the elements of the earth as pure sorcery but some saw it as a good thing.

In fact, very few saw it as a good thing. And because of that, there arose some opposition among the people. Many soldiers teamed up to wipe out all the Elementals.

Then the ice war came and a curse was placed on the illustrious city of Cheng, the twelve witches were forced to cast a spell on their selves.

This spell was a glamour spell and hence, they cast the spell to transport themselves to the future.

When they moved to the future, they had vivid recollections of their past lives. They taught their art to as many people that were willing to learn. Thus creating the first ever generation of elementals.

According to the evolutionary theory of use and disuse, the powers became engraved within them such that they didnt need to summon the power before it could be used. They also found out that depending on the month and dates their children were born, the elemental power they would wield would vary.

And for generations they followed this pattern.

Aquarius - Air (January 20- February 18.)

Pisces - Water (February 19- March 20.)

Aries - Fire (March 21- April 19.)

Taurus - Earth ( April 20- May 20.)

Gemini - Air (May 21- June 20.)

Cancer- Water (June 21- July22.)

Leo - Fire (July 23- August 22.)

Virgo - Earth (August 23- September 22.)

Libra - Air (September 23- October 22.)

Scorpio - Water (October 23- November 21.)

Sagittarius - Fire (November 22- December 21.)

Capricorn - Earth (December 22- January 19.)

The heart of man is desperately wicked. King Guzu who was the leader of the 17th century dynasty wanted all the powers for himself but he was told by a powerful sorcerer that only a new born child could wield such power.

And at such, he began to take in countless concubines but none were able to conceive.

A cold war happened again, that same year, and many lost their lives.

It was even more brutal then the ice war and there was no one to save the witches. So the king lost all hope for his chosen.

In the thick of the war, one of his many concubines gave birth to a boy but the king was in the battleground so he had no way of going to meet his heir. He was struck by the sword of the enemy and died on the spot. The kingdom was destroyed and the remaining elementals were captured and exploited.

Till this day, no one knows what happened to the said boy.

In the middle of a forest under a starless sky alight with the full moon, a woman struggles to push out a baby from her female genitals.

Very soon, the cries of a baby is heard and the expression on the woman's face is that of joy and anguish, she knows her time is near and only one person can survive between her and her baby.

It's a girl.

Summoning the last of her strength, she cleans up the child and wraps the baby in a shawl.

My all the spirits of the departed elementals be with you my princess, the woman says as she summons a magic portal.

Fierce winds rip through the air and the thud of heavy footsteps are heard, she shoves the baby into the portal which closes almost immediately.

Not long after, the soldiers find her and then, she is killed.

Leaving the child all alone in the middle of nowhere.

PRESENT TIME.

A girl of average height lifts a cardboard box, slams the car boot and hefts it through a threethree-step stairway. She stops infront a door and uses one hand to open the door. She skillfully manoeuvres her lithe body through the door and drops the box on the floor beside her feet.

She exhales loudly and leans against the bare wall behind her. She surveys her surroundings, cardboard boxes are littered round the otherwise bare house. Her mother flitted from room to room observing and taking notes. Her step father wasn't around as he went for an early morning appointment in his new place of work.

Her little step-brother was currently plonked on a lone sofa playing a game on his iPad.

"That's your room there, go keep it in order." Her mother commanded and she wheeled her travelling bad towards the said room.

"Aye aye captain." She said as she saluted her mother. She walks into the bare but clean room and folded her hands across her chest. She set a playlist as she started arranging the room.

The daughter of a successful Forensic pathologist and step daughter of a successful real estate entrepreneur, Li Jing was born into a world of limited affluence but affluence all the same.

She never knew her father and all questions asked about him simply fell on deaf ears. She had the average girl next door look.

Shoulder length black hair with a fringe, well shaped thick brows, pouty lips, a straight nose that most models would die for and the occasional pimples here and there, she was a bit lacking in the boobs and ass area but that didn't matter to her.

At seventeen, Li Jing was every inch your typical Tom boy. She preferred shorts over skirts, baggy hoodies over cropped tops, sweat pants over dinner gowns. She was a gifted artist. She loved to paint and draw. That was why her parents decided to get a five bedroom apartment instead of a four bedroom apartment as they had originally planned.

One room for her parents, one for her step brother, one as her art room and the last as a guest room.

Six hours later and Li Jing wanted to drop with exhaustion. Her once bare room was now transformed.

She had firstly cleaned the bathroom so any germs the previous occupants had left would not get to her. Then she set to dust every corner of her new room. She was a sort of clean freak.

She pushed her bed to a corner of the room and set her night light on a desk she installed beside the bed, she set up her closet. She set up a circular plush rug in the middle of her room and a reading desk with a reading lamp at the other corner of her room. She hung her photo frames on the wall to adorn it.

A bean bag chair with a lone couch was also set up at one corner of the room. When she was done, it was already night time and she had a giant appetite for food.

Before she left her room to go in search of food in the kitchen, she stared at her school uniform hung in her closet. She started school at Cheng High tomorrow.
