2 The death of the grandfather

In the afternoon Flint returned to the simple wooden house in the middle of the forest, he dragged the body of a dead bull-sized boar casually, as if the creature did not weigh at all.

"Grandpa I'm home!" Flint smiled cheerfully as he threw the boar in the front yard.

The old man with long white hair came out of the house with his eyes still withered, he had obviously just woken up from a deep sleep, he saw the game that his adopted grandson had brought, but he wasn't too surprised, as if it was a normal thing for his grandson to do.

"Flint, you're not messing around anymore, are you?" The old man asked with a lazy look.

Flint shook his head, "No Grandpa, I didn't even use my magical abilities, look at my quarry so clean, I just beat it with this little knife." Flint replied while showing the small knife in his hand.

The old man looked at him with narrowed eyes, harboring a bit of suspicion, but seeing his grandson's innocent face, he chose to believe, "Alright, grandpa believes in you, go clean your body, let grandpa take care of your quarry." The old man waved his hand, prompting Flint to clean up his body immediately.

"Yes, my handsome grandfather!" Flint smiled teasingly, relieved that his grandfather didn't suspect his innocent reply.

Well, he had indeed killed the boar using a small dagger, but on the other hand he had also made a big mess by destroying the hilly area.

After Flint walked into the house, the old man looked at the boar with a helpless expression.

"That kid, he killed a boar this big using only a small dagger and he didn't get hurt in the slightest, he obviously took it as play." He said.

He pondered for a moment comparing Flint to himself when he was 10 years old, it was like mud to clouds, no, it could not even be compared in the slightest. "Even though I used to be considered very talented in the clan."

He compared himself to Flint not only because Flint had defeated the big boar so easily at such a young age, but because he had previously witnessed Flint's immortal black firepower that could destroy and burn mountains with ease. Defeating a horde of monsters that could destroy a city or a small clan in an instant.

The only title he could give Flint was a child prodigy, it was beyond the ability of a super genius. The rare and extremely powerful black flame power that could not be extinguished unless he erased it himself, was a level that was almost impossible for even a 9-star wizard to possess or achieve, then the physical strength that was almost equivalent to a martial artist who focused on body strength, and the sword skills that could be mastered easily in just one look. Those were all heaven-defying powers.

"It's a pity I won't be able to witness him standing at the top of the world!" The old man squeezed his tight, aching chest.

....

Time went on, and days turned into weeks, months, years, 7 years passed without any interruption from the outside world.

Flint sat on the chair in front of the bed where his grandfather was lying weakly, his face gloomy and tears streaming down his cheeks.

"Grandpa let me go out of the forest, and bring a doctor for you, didn't you say they could cure all kinds of diseases and curses!" Flint said in a firm voice, unable to bear the sight of his grandfather who had been lying down for the past month.

The old man opened his eyes weakly, his wrinkled face already pale as a corpse.

"Even if you leave now, it's already too late, and it's also not just about illness or curses, but about age and fate. All living things will die in due time, consumed by time." The old man muttered weakly.

"No... All diseases must have a cure, fate, I will change it for grandfather, so please let me do something for you, I promise to come back as soon as possible. Until then, please .... You must endure." Flint's tears flowed more, for the first time he felt useless, even with all his extraordinary talents and abilities.

"Sorry, Flint... My grandson. Grandpa..."

"No! Grandpa can't die... No... You will live, so please don't say bad things, you're all I have, I can't live without you." Flint shouted angrily, not at his grandfather, but at his own useless self.

Seeing Flint's attitude, the old man only smiled slightly.

"Flint may I ask you one last favor."

Hearing that Flint almost squealed with sadness, but he could only shake his head.

You are a good boy, even though I am not your real grandfather, but I have considered you as my precious grandson, you have accompanied me for a dozen years, providing a fun and meaningful life for me.

"Stop it sis, I beg you not to say that again, you've said it so many times. Hiks... Hiks."

"Grandfather came from a clan far in the south, it was a small clan called the Sky Sword clan, for some reason, I left the clan when my daughter-in-law was pregnant. Khukkk... Khukkk." The old man fell silent as he coughed up blood.

"Grandpa..." Flint immediately panicked seeing his grandfather coughing up blood and looking weaker and weaker.

The old man shook his head, then grabbed a green necklace that had a small green crystal sword blade, he handed the necklace to Flint.

"Please, go to the sky sword clan, give this necklace to your sister, tell her my apologies for never visiting her. I heard she has grown up to be a beautiful girl and quite talented, but... the world out there is very cruel, I'm very worried. So you can stay there and stay by her side.

You should also make a lot of friends, you're a good kid, you should be able to do it easily. And one more thing, don't use your power just anywhere, if the situation is urgent you can use it with a different identity." He said with a weakening voice.

He was obviously worried about his granddaughter and indirectly told Flint to protect her, he knew Flint was the only one who could protect his granddaughter. But he was also worried about Flint, so he suggested hiding his identity.

Flint was speechless and took the necklace from his grandfather's powerless hand, and before he could say anything else, his grandfather closed his eyes and breathed his last.

Flint's eyes bulged when he couldn't feel any life energy from his grandfather. "Grandpa... Grandpa don't joke around, what are you doing?"

Grandpa...

Flint roared with tears, he could only hug his grandfather's body, as if not letting him go.

The next day, Flint stood in front of his grandfather's grave under the tree beside the house, clutching the necklace in his hand. Then he picked up the bag lying next to him.

"Grandpa, I will fulfill your last wish, I swear that I will pass this necklace to my sister, I will also try to make many friends, and protect your beloved clan with my own life, so rest in peace in the beyond," Flint said as he looked up at the sky.

Then he turned around and quickly left, leaving behind all the memories with his beloved grandfather.
