Chapter 5

I awake with a start as hearing high-pitched squeaky voices, and the soft patter of feet followed by the heavier falls of someone in armor. Looking out the ceiling I see the sun start to set, "Dang it I sleep the whole day away" thinking to myself as footfalls get closer.

Then I hear those high-pitched voices again and that can only mean one kind of creature, goblins! "My lord they were sent in here this morning and have not been seen since."

    "I know, you idiot! That is why the master has sent me to make sure all of you creatures do as told!" Roars a loud voice, followed by a sickening sound of metal hitting flesh then the sound of something heavy hitting the door of the room I was in. "Get rid of his body before it angers me again, and I kill the rest of you!"

"Yes, my lord, your will shall be done." Squeaks a goblin, I hear the body as it is dragged away from the door.

"My Lord, there is something you should see here."

"What is it you pathetic excuse for an officer!" Roars their Lord as he stomps over to the voice. "I know this device; the followers of Veda came up with these."

"What does it do, my Lord?" interrupts a goblin.

"They alert the owner to anyone who bears ill will is near. Oh, and never interrupt me again!" as a goblin squeals as it was kicked into the wall.

"My lord, if you keep killing my troops I will have no one left to finish this mission for our master." Says the goblins commanding officer

"I know that. If any of you had any useful skills or brains, I might actually care!" laughs the lord with cruelty.

"Captain Golrick sir, I smell human and Gorgon blood. Though the human scent is very faint, the Gorgon scent is a lot stronger." Squeaks a goblin that had stopped right outside the door to the room I was in, I could hear him sniffing the air. I hear the officer run over, towards the door.

"My lord, he is correct and looks here there is blood here lots of it too."

"Break that door down now I want to know what has happened here!" he roars stomping over towards this room.

I move to the center of the room and prepare myself to fight, "Private Jaykans get the rest of the troop up here we have a hero to greet and eat!" Yells Golrick the goblin commander, within five minutes I can hear feet scrambling up the stairs. Unsheathing my sword I wait with a feeling of dread, thinking to myself "Man just once I wish a mission went the way it was supposed to, I never get a break darn it." I shake myself from those kinds of thoughts because if I start thinking like that I will not be able to do anything. I activate my shield as the goblins outside stop moving.

"My Lord as you know, we Goblins have our own brand of magic and its quite fun." Says Goldrich with glee in his voice "Place the Ruin Charges on the wall!" I hear the goblins do as ordered, (I have seen ruin charges before they are pieces of metal in the shape of the Goblin word for the explosion and can be placed on anything. This charges could be set for proximity, time-delayed or triggered remotely) they place four of these charges along the hallway wall. I duck behind the desk and move my shield above my head to protect myself as the charges go off. The wall exploded around me, with a blast strong enough to push the desk and me three feet back, large chunks of wall and ceiling fall all around me.

"Attack!" Squeals Golrick, I jump down from the desk and bring my sword straight down into a goblin's chest which cut through it from shoulder to hip. The goblins take a step back as their fellow dies, which gives me a little breathing room. As I ready for their attack, I get my first real look at this troop. These are southern Goblins, which is a good and bad thing that is because they fight in a swarm in the jungle or forests, not in a room.

However, because there are about 30 of them their swarm fighting will be a problem. Now if you have never had the pleasure of seeing goblins then count yourself very lucky. They are one of the ugliest creatures in the known world, though they are interesting to see. Their skin color runs from green to orange, they are 2 to 3 feet tall with short sturdy legs. A very squared torso, with wide shoulders and almost no neck. They have arms that reach to the ground that is extremely muscled, they use their arms to help them run. They have Triangular heads, right in the middle is a squashed flat nose, with a small mouth filled with razor-sharp teeth, large ears rounded to a point, and huge round eyes with vertical pupils that range in color from red to orange.

I bring up my shield as two approach me from both the right and left sides, my to catch the one on the left and I lock blades with the one on the right. As I meet both of their blades, I get an odd feeling as if someone was running a dagger across my neck. At this point, my instincts took over I threw myself over towards the goblin on my left. Which causes the goblin on my right to lose its balance and fall forwards right into the path of the one who was trying to stab me in the back It stabbed the goblin in the left side, it lets go of its blade in shock and grabs at the dagger in its side.

I push off the goblin that I had thrown myself into and bring my blade down through the side of the one who had tried to stab me. Smiling I say, "This is too easy, I can do this all day." I start laughing, feeling better than I had in years almost as good as before that fateful day 5 years ago.

The one that had been on my left struggled to its feet as I turned to face it, the goblin hissed at me it and dropped its sword and used both arms to swing forward to land a kick on my chest. This knocked me back and almost into another goblin. I regain my balance just in time to roll to the right to avoid the ones behind me.

"Easy is it," Laughs Golrick "then let's have little fun boys." He signals for another group to attack me. I roll to my feet as they attack, and swing my sword towards one of them coming at me it tries to parry my swing. As our blades meet, I turn it so that the other slides down my sword, as it reaches the guard I flick my wrist out knocking away the blade causing the goblin to lose balance and fall towards my left side.

As it falls past me I reach out with my left hand and grab it by the top of the head, I push it back toward the others knocking them off their feet. I grab a dagger off the ground with my left hand as four more come at me. I move to face the closest two that was on my left, they had already started their attacks as I faced them. The first one swung at my left which I blocked with my shield, the second attacked and I blocked with my sword. I twisted my shield so that it angled the goblin's sword and arm up, and then sliding it down the other's sword which caused its sword and arm to go higher up, I use the dagger that I had picked up to stab it in the chest.

"No, you killed Kenjue!" yelled the one that I had locked blades with, he pushed off with his left arm that gave him enough force to knock me back. "I will kill you now you stupid human!" it dropped its short sword and grabbed my shield with both arms, trying to rip it off my arm. Of course, it couldn't cause it was attached to my arm. However, it hurt my hand with how much force it was using. I stab right under my arm and into its chest. I think to myself "Good thing that was attached to my arm!" I deactivate my shield and grab a sword from the ground. Settling down into a low stance, I await the next attack as the rush me from everywhere.
