6 Chapter 6: The town

I woke up once again before the sun rose. Mary was still sleeping in her makeshift bed. And when I went outside the tent, I saw John and Anne by the campfire.

Mizuki [Good morning.]

John [Morning.]

John seems to be the reservative type as his voice is quiet and composed. Or maybe he's just shy.

Anne [Good morning. Your up quite early.]

Mizuki [Yup. Is there anything to do in the morning?]

Anne [Nothing really. Once everyone wakes up, we can clear out this area and head back to town after a quick meal.]

Mizuki [Okay then. What will be our breakfast then?]

Anne [I'm not sure myself. John?]

John [We still have those wolves and orcs from yesterday, so I think either Jack or Mary will cook the wolf meat.]

After a little more talking with Anne and John, the sun slowly rose up and Grey and Jack walked towards us. They started cooking the wolf meat into a soup for a breakfast. After a little more time passed, Dragon slayers walked out. 2 of them were injured but they can walk properly with a little support. A tall and buff looking guy with a scar across his face then looked at me and sneered.

Kevin [So you're the brat from yesterday. I won't forgive you for stealing our prey.]

Mizuki [Stealing your prey? But didn't all of you faint? And didn't I save you from dying?]

Kevin [Shut up! It doesn't change that you stole our prey! We may have fainted but that Slaughter bear was still our prey!]

Grey [Kevin! I told you not to start any trouble!]

Kevin [You know as well as I do what the consequences of stealing others' prey are Grey!]

Grey [Mizuki isn't part of the guild. And we didn't touch the bear. I already told you about it last night didn't I?]

Kevin [Even if she isn't part of the guild, she still stole our prey!]

Anne [You shouldn't be shouting and moving erratically like that Kevin, or else your wounds would open up again.]

Kevin [Tch!]

Kevin then walked away, and his party followed shortly while glaring at us.

Grey [Sorry about that Mizuki. They are really foul-mouthed, but there are a lot of stupid and arrogant people like them in the guild, so I can only ask you to get used to them.]

Mizuki [They are pretty bad people, I'm glad that they weren't the first people I encountered here.]

Grey [I'm also glad that we were the ones that found you. If it were other parties, they might have fed you false info and might've even enslaved you.]

I shivered at that thought

Mizuki [I'm really glad it was you who found me.]

We all started eating the soup by the campfire, and John went towards Kevin and his party to give them their food. After we all finished eating we cleaned up the campsite and headed out of the forest. We were still far inside the forest and with injured people here, it'll most likely take a while before we reach the town. Kevin and his party usually started fights but Grey would constantly silence him. We didn't encounter a lot of monsters throughout the forest and we continued our uneventful travel for 2 days until we got out of the forest.

Once we got out of the forest, the first thing I saw was a wide and beautifully green grassland, in the distance in front of us was a wall that was at least 50 meters tall. The wall was far from us, but it wouldn't take 30 minutes to walk from where we are to the gate. We did just that and at the grasslands were some other types of monsters and people fighting these monsters. Grey then gave me a brown coat with a hood and told me to wear it at all times.

Once we neared the gate, I saw other mercenaries like Grey and the others at the massive gate and people with armor at the gate talking with these mercenaries. Once the mercenaries saw Grey and his party they started to open a path for them. I heard they were a S-Class party, but it would appear that they are quite famous in this town. Some mercenaries also saw Kevin and his party and glared at them with disgust. We reached the gate after a little more walking and one of the armor wearing guys approached us.

Grey [Hey Steven.]

Steven [Grey! I'm glad you're fine. Did you find anything unusual in the forest?]

Grey then glanced at me.

Grey [Yeah...Can you let me pass quickly. I need to inform the Head Master.]

Steven [Of course! Can I see your identifications.]

Grey and his party including Kevin and his party all took out what looked to be a rectangular item from their pockets. After Steven received the items, he took out an orb looking thing from his pocket and brought it to each rectangular item, the orb then glowed blue and he returned the rectangular items back to Grey and the others after he checked all the rectangular items. He then looked at me suspiciously. After which Grey gave Steven 3 bronze coins

Grey [I'll pay for this little girl with us.]

Steven [...Alright. You can enter then.]

He still looked at me with suspicion, but he didn't do anything.

We entered the gate and what appeared past the gate was a whole lot of people and buildings. And in the distance towards the town's center was a building that was bigger than the other buildings and looked intimidating.

The sight shocked and made me awed but the others were used to it, as they grabbed my hand and led me towards the town's center where the intimidating looking building was.

We were now in town and I wanted to explore but there is still a lot of things I don't know so it would be better for me to stay with Grey and his party for now until I get to know more about this world.
