4 Chapter 4: A battle

When we arrived at the sounds of fighting, 4 people were fighting a Slaughter bear and 1 person on the ground bleeding. It looks like they were having a tough time against the Slaughter bear. They were desperately fighting for their lives, and they can't run away, because 1 of them was injured and unconscious on the ground.

Grey [It's the slaughter bear that was chasing us yesterday. It has that injury on it's eye from Mary's arrow. That party can't be saved, We can't win against a slaughter bear, even if we join up with them.]

Max [Are you sure boss?]

Grey [Yeah.]

Jack [So we ignore them and head back to town?]

Grey [Yeah. We can ignore them and head back to town first, I would've helped any other Merc if it weren't Dragon Slayers.]

Mizuki [Dragon Slayers?]

Anne [They're sexual harassers and are always picking fights with anyone and everyone. Nobody likes them because of their ego and arrogance, but even if nobody likes them, they've got the skills to be able to get to S rank, even if just barely.]

Mizuki [With that description, I already don't like them and would try my best to avoid them.]

Mary [I agree. So let's get out of here already before anything bad happens.]

Grey [Let's hurry then.]

As we were taking a detour to avoid the Slaughter bear and "the Chosen", We heard rustles from behind us and a low growl. What came out were Black wolves.

Grey [What bad timing. To think that not only encountering a Slaughter bear and Dragon Slayers in this forest, but we also get encircled by Dark wolves.]

Mizuki [Dark wolves?]

Jack [Dark wolves alone are about B-Class, but with a whole pack, it jumps up to an S-Class threat. And this pack seems to be up to 30 wolves. What bad timing indeed.]

Grey [Guess we have to fight then. I'm sorry Mizuki, but it seems that we'll need your power too.]

Mizuki [It's ok, it's not Grey's fault. Also, I want to try out my skills against a real monster.]

Grey [Don't get hurt now. Though I doubt that you'll get hurt with that kind of status. But best of luck to you anyway Mizuki.]

Mizuki [Same to you guys.]

After we wished each other some luck, they went into formation and fought the wolves. They had nice teamwork, John and Anne shot at the wolves with their magic, with Max always grabbing the attention of the wolves, while Jack flanks them from the sides to deal damage, and Grey giving out instructions while at the same time fighting 2 or more wolves away from John and Anne, Anne also heals their wounds whenever the chance appears.

I on the other hand is testing out my magic against these silver wolves. I appear to be faster than them by just a little bit so I go to their blind spots and fire off spells one by one and kill 1 wolf with each magic spell. My magic seems to be reliable so now I will test how much my physical strength will fare against them. I stop running around and stare at the nearest wolf. After I killed about 6 wolves with my magic, they all seem to see me as more of a threat than Silver wolves and The chosen and are more on guard. Grey and the others seem to have already beaten about 12 wolves, I can sense there being around 15 more wolves in our surroundings. I use my instincts to fight the wolves around me, I'm surprised that I can fight so well despite it being my first time, but it's surprisingly easy to fight like this, maybe it's my instincts as a vampire.

While beating some more wolves, I looked at the slaughter bear and Dragon Slayers, they were still fighting surprisingly well but I can only see 3 of them, the other guy must've gotten injured or worse, died. Though their reputation was bad, they had skills. I defeat the remaining wolves around me and go to help kill the slaughter bear.

As I got closer, I saw the condition of the 3 guys. They all look like they were about to drop and faint, they must've been fighting for awhile. Now that I got a closer look at the slaughter bear, it looks massive compared to me and it also has a lot of injuries. I didn't really want to save annoying people, but I also don't want to ignore people in need.

When I got even closer to the Slaughter bear from it's blind spot, I kicked it with all my power at it's side. As I hit it, I felt something more durable than metal. It got blown towards the trees at the power of my kick, but it's fur was very hard. Good thing I had dragon ancestry, because if I was a regular human, My leg's bones would probably beak at contact.

With the Slaughter bear no longer in front of the 3 of Dragon Slayers, and me in front of them, they stared at me in disbelief and after a moment fainted all together. It looked like they reached their limit and fainted upon having their burden removed from them.

Once they all fainted, Silver wolves had defeated the rest of the Night wolves, and came over to me.

Grey [That was a strong kick there Mizuki]

Mizuki [I'm surprised myself. That bear's fur is really hard, I didn't even reach bones. That things pretty durable huh.]

Jack [Of course it's durable. It won't be a SS-Class monster if it died just from your kick.]

Mizuki [You're right.]

After another moment, The bear started to stand up. It turned around and locked eyes with me, from the moment it looked at me, I knew that it was angry and was about to charge.

[Dodge!]

The moment I warned the Silver wolves, The slaughter bear blasted towards us at an immense speed, we were just barely able to get away from it's path. The Slaughter bear continued charging through the trees until it's momentum died, once again turning around and looking straight at me. It appears that it's really mad at me, and it continues to ignore the provocations of Max.

It once again charged at me, but this time no one else is in it's way but me so I cast some magic to be able to possibly kill it.

[Ice Spear!]

Whenever I cast magic, I only needed to say the name of the spell and imagine the spells contents and it's target, so it's relatively easy to do. The stronger your imagination, the stronger the spell's power. So once I casted about 4 ice spears towards the bear, they were all bigger than me, and impaled the slaughter bear. It was truly a SS-Class, as that much power still wasn't able to kill it, though it slowed down quite a bit. I once again fired off my magic, this time to finally finish off the Slaughter bear.

[Ice spear!]

I impaled the Slaughter bear with another ice spear on it's back, and it finally fell down. I didn't expect that SS-class monsters were quite durable, though this one was probably exhausted since yesterday, and it was also injured. I also like the ice element, it feels nice to use and easier too. Maybe my dragon ancestor was of an ice dragon?

Grey [You are definitely strong to be able to beat an SS-Class so easily.]

Mary [That was definitely something I hadn't expected from someone that looks like a 10 year old.]

Mizuki [I also didn't expect something like this. The slaughter bear was weaker than I imagined, though it might be because it was fairly exhausted and injured.]

Grey [Maybe so, but you were still able to beat a monster of that class. The slaughter bear might be among the weaker ones in the SS-Class, but it's still among the SS-Class. Don't get arrogant and overstep your bounds like Dragon Slayers over there.]

Now that the battle against the Dark wolves and the Slaughter bear was over, we can get some rest. The Dragon Slayers party were all unconscious right now so we'll have to camp out until they wake up. 2 of them were heavily injured so Anne was healing them up to movable condition while the rest were also injured, but not life threatening. Me, Grey and Mary were all setting up camp while Jack, Max, and John went to dismantle the wolves and the bear, they said they could sell their materials, while Anne was healing up the Dragon Slayers.

We all took a break around our camp while waiting for Dragon Slayers to wake up and head back to town in the next morning. We might have been delayed by a day, but at least I got to experience a fight early and see for myself my strength.
