1 Prologue

Katherine followed her professor after class like she was asked, he led her down an abandoned hallway that looked as if it had been abandoned for centuries based on the webs, mold, and rats running against the wall. She couldn't figure out what it could've possibly been for, a missing assignment, or maybe a wrong potion. She did know that he said it involved her for filling a vital role in a special project of his, she had thought he was suggesting extra credit. She looked up at the walls, it was missing several portions of the stone varying in size depending on where she looked, she could even see through a large hole in the wall and into the long grass field surrounding the building. He stopped in front of two large doors made of dark wood with rusted hinges and bolts creaking as it opened sending an eerily loud creak that echoed throughout the hall.

This sound sent a shiver down her spine, from her neck to her lower back, unsettling her more than when she first stepped into this place. She felt that something was wrong with this place, it felt dark, darker than most as if some evil were wandering the halls waiting for an unlucky trespasser to stumble upon this unfortunate and evil place. But she had nothing to fear she was in fact in the company of one of the bravest professors to ever grace the academy's hallowed halls. She looked up just in time to watch her professor walk through the doors and down the stairs, his footsteps resonating the more steps he takes leading him deeper into the building. She ran towards the door trying to keep up with him, she stopped in front of the opening. The darkness intimidating her the longer she stared down into it, down the stairs that only led deeper into the darkness, the stairs almost disappearing.

"Come down, there is something I want to show you," the professor said, their voice resonating up the stairs and through the walls. Her hands began to shiver uncontrollably, the bad feeling she had only grown in intensity, finding it harder and harder to calm herself down. Despite her better judgment telling her to run home and never look back, why didn't she just listen to herself? "I'm coming," she stepped through the door and began to steadily climb down the stairs into what she could only assume was darkness. As she went deeper the large doors closed shut, the lock clicking, closing them both inside.

She finally reached the bottom of the stairs; this place was darker than all the others. She felt her heartbeat and breathe quicken the longer she stood there alone. The next thing she knew there was a light shining in front of her, consuming the darkness around her, enveloping her as well, all she could do was scream.
