69 Lighten Up Her Mood

As Devin was embracing the girl in his arms and caressed her back with his free hand, Angeal had already calmed down. They have been in this position for 10 minutes but the Soul Eater didn't mind it. He wanted Angeal to feel better.

As Angeal's head was resting on Devin's chest, she heard his heart beating. It was slow—steady... giving her a sense of clarity.

This made the girl realize that their master is indeed alive.

'Alive,' the girl thought as she abruptly looked at Devin, remembering what was said to her about the curse.

Eating the souls of other people forcefully is considered murder... so it lessens his lifespan.

The girl's eyes turned sad and her eyebrows showed worry. She lifted up her hand, held his face, then mouthed something, making the Soul Eater look at her with bewildered eyes.

"Are you okay?"

Devin blinked his eyes a few times then raised an eyebrow at her.

"Why would you ask me that when you are in this situation?"

The girl's lips turned into a tight line, not knowing what to say. Now that she knew about his curse, she didn't know if telling him that she knows about it would be such a good idea.

If his lifespan lessened, Angeal would definitely feel bad about it because she was in this situation and he did that just for her.

Feeling embarrassed, the girl hid her face on his chest again as he clung on to his clothing.

'I'm sorry, master...'

Seeing how Angeal reacted, Devin thought that the girl was sad so he hesitantly patted her head to cheer her up. Awkward as he found it, he still did so... wanting to lighten up her mood.

"Uh... there, there," he said, and hearing this made the human girl smile.

The girl looked at the Soul Eater as she wiped her tears away from her eyes and cheeks.

"Thank you," she mouthed making the immortal's heart beat faster.

'This feeling... again.'

"Mm," he just said, shaking himself from his thoughts then he stood up, helping the girl up as well. "Let's go," he said as he buttoned the buttons of his coat for Angeal.

The coat was so big... she looked like a burrito!

Fishing his phone out from his pocket, he called Ivar, making him answer at the first ring.

"Devin! Did you find her? Are you—"

"Come here and dispose of the corpses in the building once the both of us arrive at the car."

"Dispose of the—wha!?"

Devin ended the call, not even waiting for Ivar's reply. He looked at the girl beside him then put his arm around her shoulders.

"Let's go," he said then the two of them walked out of the abandoned building.

The moment they were already in the streets near the fountain, a lot of people were looking at them, giving them a look of approval.

'A look of approval for what?'

Devin heed it to no mind but to Angeal, she grew conscious.

"Look at the guy... he's so handsome!"

"The girl beside him is simple yet pretty!"

"Aaaw! He even lent her his coat to keep her warm this evening!"

"They look so great together!"

"He has a scary appearance but look how gentle he is to his girlfriend."

Hearing the last remark, the girl froze in her tracks, making Devin stop as well.

"What's wrong?"

He looked at the girl beside him then saw that her face was getting redder by the second. She bit her lip as she felt her heart beating faster, hearing the comments of the bystanders around them.

'What? Girlfriend!?'

Not far off, from inside the car, Frey noticed familiar figures. She looked outside the window and saw that Angeal was right beside Devin, near the fountain where she waited for her best friend a while ago.

"Angeal!"

Hearing Frey's reaction, Ivar also looked instinctively outside as Frey quickly opened the car door and rushed out to meet her best friend.

As Angeal was distracted in her own thoughts of hearing how they commented on them being a couple, she was pulled away from her mind when she saw Frey running towards her, tears escaping from her eyes.

'Frey?'

"Oh, come here you!"

Frey pulled her from Devin and gave her a tight hug. Ivar followed behind then approached the two girls, assessing if Angeal was okay.

"Angeal, are you alright," Ivar asked, worry etched in his voice.

Seeing that Frey and Ivar were aware of what happened, she blinked her eyes a few times then she nodded as she returned Frey's embrace.

"Hey!"

Soon after, the four of them look instinctively to where the voice came from.

It was Arvid.

In just six large strides, he approached the four then gave them a smile.

"Sorry, you must've been waiting for a long time. I was scouted by the coach to be part of the martial arts team, but I don't know how if I should take part in it," he said as he scratched the back of his head then he noticed and remembered that their master, Devin, was with them.

"Ah," the boy exclaimed as he gave a small bow to his master. "Hello, master. Sorry, I—"

"It's fine," Devin interrupted as he gave Angeal's phone to her. "Don't drop your phone again," he lied, covering up what had happened from Arvid as he walked away and made way towards the car.

Angeal and Arvid were quite surprised to have seen the expensive car their master Devin entered then they looked at Ivar, like they were asking for some explanation.

"We have a car," Arvid asked, making Ivar give them a smile.

"Yeah, we do. Uh," he answered and trailed off then looked at their master. "I'll be back in a few minutes," he added as he walked away and went towards the abandoned building, making Arvid furrow his brows in curiosity.

"What's up? What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Frey said abruptly as Angeal shook her head furiously as her answer.

Seeing both of their reactions, it made Arvid furrow his brows more, especially when he noticed that Angeal was wearing an oversized coat.

"Why are you wearing a coat? Is that—"

"Oh, Angeal was feeling a little bit chilly so she borrowed your master's coat," she answered, and without even being told of what exactly happened, she knew she would have to cover up Angeal not to make Arvid worry.

"Oh... I see," Arvid commented, believing her reasons then he whispered enough for them to hear. "Good thing he is kind enough to do so," he added, making Angeal type on her phone.

"Yeah. It's getting chilly. Let's head on inside," she said and the two nodded as they made their way towards the car then entered.

After a minute, Ivar came back then sat on the driver's seat then started the car.

"Okay! Let's head on home and get the party started!"

Lightening up the mood and making sure that Arvid won't suspect a thing, Ivar and Frey kept conversing about random stuffs as Arvid chimed in every now and then.

As for Devin he was just silent as he stared out the window whereas for Angeal, she faked her smile, as she listened in to their conversation.

Before they knew it, they had already arrived in the mansion. Ivar parked the car at the side and when everyone got out and made way towards the mansion, Devin made sure that they went on ahead before speaking to his personal servant.

"Ivar," he said and the Dominion rolled his eyes at him.

"How could you eat souls by force!? You know how it would lessen your lifespan—"

"It doesn't matter. I was so angry. Her life was in danger."

Being interrupted by his master and hearing what he said surprised Ivar more than it should.

His life span lessening didn't matter... because the girl was in danger and he was angry about it.

Their master... cared about the human girl after all!

Devin turned his back to look at his personal servant, showing him his eyes that possessed warmth—a foreign feeling present from their icy master.

"Do me a favor," he said, making Ivar raise his brow at him in curiosity.

'He rarely asks for favors... as he always pushes people around!'

"What," the Dominion asked, shaking himself from his internal thoughts.

"Make the party fun... to make the girl feel better."
