7 Chapter 7: “a visitor”

It has been five days since Jayden had gotten the system, so far he hasn't done anything with it only doing basic missions such as helping around the house but that doesn't even give him rewards, it just tells him the reward will be his mum being nice.

Some of the system users tried to contact him through the system. Marfa said that if he came to her side she would let him sleep with her, but he didn't respond because it honestly felt disgusting.

Josh had threatened him that if he didn't join the government he would kill everyone he loved whole he forced him to watch. Jayden wanted to reply but no matter how he replied it would piss Josh off and he might go and dedicate a search to find him, so he stayed silent.

Endou had contacted him to say that if he ever needed any equipment he could make them if he had the money. Jayden did reply to this because he probably would need endou in the future so it was better to have a good relationship with him, even if it was only replying and not antagonising him.

Jochen had said that if he wanted to live a free life with no worries to join him, even saying that he understood if he didn't reply right away and that if the government system users ever found him and he needed help he would help him, but after that he would have to join them.

He responded by saying that if he ever got into trouble he would think of him. Jochen didn't reply after that but Jayden knew he would probably need jochen in the future to get out of a tough situation, especially if the government system users found him early on.

Alexander and [The Eclipsed] didn't say anything, but Jayden wasn't going to go out of his way to message them and potentially make an enemy quicker than he wanted to.

Right now Jayden was in his room playing games, and Dabi was somewhere in town. Jayden wasn't sure what he was doing but so long as he didn't kill anyone Jayden wouldn't stop him.

As for the people Jayden and Dabi had killed, a missing persons report went out for them. As the body's were burned to ash there was no way to find them.

Jayden didn't feel bad that the family's of these people wouldn't know what had happened to them. They deserved what they got and the family got some of the consequences.

It was like one of the things Jaydens ma said, 'always think of the consequences of your actions. It might affect more than just you.' Or something like that.

He wasn't exactly sure but it went like that.

He was interrupted from his thoughts, and gaming, when his ma shouted up at him. "Jayden! There's someone at the door for you!"

Jayden put his controller down confused, he didn't have many friends so someone coming to his house was unexpected.

"Coming!" He shouted as he went down stairs at the door was a girl who was smiling nervously. And his mother who was smiling like she was seeing an old friend, which he figured she was seeing as there was a man behind the girl who looked like the girls father.

The girl was his age, shorter than him, she had brown hair that went down her back that had blue dye at the bottom that looked in desperate need of dye.

Jayden felt the girl was familiar but he couldn't put his finger on it, hell even the man looked familiar.

"Jayden, this is Evelyn and her father Sean. You might not remember because it was a while ago but you too were friends." His mother informed him.

"Oh… okay, it's nice to see you again. Sorry that I don't fully remember you, I have a bad memory." Jayden said apologetically. He kind of remembered her, but he wasn't sure they were the same people. If they were the same person then he knew her when they were kids and they practically spent all their time together.

"That's okay. It's good to see you again, champ." The man, Sean, said as he stuck his hand out.

Jayden took his hand and shook it. He had a feeling his mother was about to say something to make this awkward meeting even more awkward.

"Why don't you and Evelyn go to your room, while I talk to Sean to properly catch up." His mom said Jayden wanted to protest but doing that would be even more embarrassing.

"Yeah, sure. Come on." Jayden said to her.

She nodded embarrassed, clearly knowing it was awkward for both of them.

Once they reached the top of the stairs Jayden pointed to the door just at the top. "That's the bathroom, just in case."

She nodded and followed Jayden into his room where he pulled his chair out from the desk and spun it around so she could sit, while he sat on the bed.

Once they were both seated it settled into an awkward silence as both looked anywhere other then each other in fear of making it more awkward.

Jayden decided to man up and speak. "So, you remember me right?" She nods confirming that she did. "Okay… this is awkward but I don't think I remember you. Can you tell me some of the things we did together? Just to jog my memory."

"Hmm? Oh! It was around when we were eight, maybe nine? Seven? I'm not sure but we went to the festival in town and they had a small roller coaster. We went on with… I think it was your mom? And it wasn't a normal one because the cart would spin around and when we were going around corners it would tilt. After that ride, we got off and you held it in for about five seconds before you threw up in a nearby bin." Evelyn told him, snapping her fingers when she couldn't remember anything and tilting her head.

"Oh! It was… it was… what was it?!" Jayden said frustrated. He remembered her more now, he didn't remember everything, just some memories that stuck out. "Oh! The crazy mouse! Or it was called something like that."

"Yeah! I'm glad you remembered. You do remember me right?" She asked unsure.

Jayden smiled. "Of course I remember you. Thanks for jogging my memory." Before things could go silent again Jayden started talking. "So what are you doing now? You moved when you were ten for some reason and that was it."

Evelyn smiled as well, happy that he remembered and that it didn't get awkward again. "My dad had to move because of his job. And then four years later I had to move away from dad to go to America…" Evelyn stopped as she realised she said something she shouldn't have.

"Hmm?" Jayden hummed out confused. "That would make you…" Jayden did quick counting on his fingers to make sure. "Fourteen. Why did you go to America by yourself at that age? You don't have to answer of course but it just seems kinda weird."

"The government recruited me. I was smarter than all the others in my school and apparently in Ireland, so they took me in so they could personally teach me. 'To make sure my mind didn't go to waste', what kinda bullshit is that, right?!" Evelyn said nervously. She was lying, of course. That story wasn't true, all of it was lies or twisted truths.

Yeah the government 'recruited' her, although it wasn't by choice that she went. Yeah she was smart but not that smart. And that last one was twisted in that they actually said, 'we have to make sure your system is used for the right purposes and doesn't end up in the wrong hands', although Evelyn didn't know whether the government was in the right hands or not.

"Really? That sucks." Jayden said, sorry for the girl. He could tell she was hiding something, she acted like his sister when she was hiding something. But he could tell that some of the story was the truth so he wasn't going to force it out of her.

Evelyn felt bad for not telling him, but she didn't trust him to keep her secret, she only trusted her dad. And besides she wasn't stupid enough to tell him her secret the second she met him. Although he might be nice, who knows how people can change.

But she also felt bad for him. She was kinda using him, although now that she was actually talking to him she didn't feel forced to talk to him anymore.

=========================================

Yeah, I think this might be shorter than the last chapter, can't remember, and I'm sorry for that.

But the reason for it, as said before, is that this is a side project, and I have actually started working to make it an original novel.

Which would have more detail, higher word count, and would have fully original characters.

But besides that, I hope you enjoyed.
