27 CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN

CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN

Tony hated being caught off when he was talking; he finds it insulting and distasteful but like before he played it cool.

'McKenna, your life is more important than a car and I have about three more cars parked at home' when he saw McKenna wasn't convinced, he decided to try another tactic 'the car also has a tracker and I can find it. So come on, we will just trek a distance to the main road and we will get a cab'

McKenna dropped the phone she was holding on the car's dashboard to strap on her heels. The idea of trekking any distance no matter how close was terrifying and painful but they were out of option.

'I am on heels and this is going to be a painful stroll' McKenna joked as she got down.

'I could carry you. I don't think you weigh much' Tony was serious

'That is a very sweet offer Tony but I rather get blisters on my toes than be carried like a child'

It wasn't a long walk but it was a difficult one. McKenna watched Tony closely and she could tell there was more to him than meets the eyes. So far, he has been nothing but a gentleman but if life has taught her anything, it was when something was too good to be true, it probably is.

She walked with him and tried to keep up with his pace. He finally slowed down when he saw that she was finding it difficult to keep up with his strides. McKenna found him appealing and handsome but he didn't have the qualities she found attractive in Jason. He wasn't Jason Ekoh-Yagazie.

You mean Tony doesn't push you away or treat you like you mean nothing to him? The little voice in McKenna's head asked her.

Jason had never been kind to her or reciprocated her love. He left her like she meant nothing to him. McKenna reasoned that she owns Jason nothing and she could do whatever she wanted with this good looking man that was more than willing to leave his expensive car on a lonely road and walk her home.

'A penny for your thoughts' Tony's voice brought her back to the present.

'Sorry…I was lost in my own head for a minute'

'Can I say something?' Tony asked and McKenna nodded.

'If I am able to get you admitted to one of the best private university in the country to study Pharmacy or Medicine and surgery, will you forget Canada?' Tony asked

McKenna was mortified, it was their first date and he was already trying to convince her to abandon Canada. She couldn't be visibly angry because it was not a bad suggestion and he did not know her well.

'I don't want to be a medical doctor or a Pharmacist. I love business and it is one of the things I see myself doing but thanks for your offer Tony but no'

Tony stopped walking, he wasn't accustomed to people rejecting his benevolence and it wasn't a feeling he cherished.

'There is respect to being a doctor or a pharmacist. Every dick, tom or jerry could successfully run a business and even if you insist on owning a business, I could easily open one for you after you get your medical degree' Tony was trying to control his temper.

'What is wrong with you? This is the first time we are on a date and you are already trying to control my future' now McKenna was angry and she didn't bother trying to hide it.

'It's just that I have always imagined that my wife would be a doctor or a pharmacist but most importantly I don't want to lose you because you are going to Canada to study a course that I do not see the point'

McKenna wanted to yell that he couldn't possibly lose someone he never had in the first place but she kept her temper at bay and went with the less volatile option.

'Mr. Tony, I am going to Canada. I am twenty years old and I am too young to be someone's wife. A few years in Canada will help me grow and become the person I want to be'

Tony resumed walking, if he was going to convince McKenna to stay in Nigeria, yelling and shaking her wouldn't help. He apologized to her and they kept walking.

For a minute when Tony was talking to her, McKenna saw his eyes get darker and it frightened her. Even though she tried not to look intimidated, she couldn't help but imagine him striking her. She was so sure that wave of nausea swept through her giving her goose bumps. But he backed down and apologized and suddenly she could breathe well again.
