10 Chapter 9

Eva POV

I ran away from the house I lived in for the past 16 years until I started feeling slightly tired from running. I ran until I felt black spots covering my eyesight and I collapsed. All I could hear was a big thump as my head hit the floor and footsteps slowly walking to me. Please don't be dad!

Unknown POV

My partner, Noah and I were walking back from our day's work when we heard a loud sound; like someone had fallen. I didn't want to go check what happened as I was least bothered but Noah being the softy he is headed straight to the source of the sound.

I followed him not wanting to leave him on his own. As I followed behind I saw a person lying on the floor, unconscious. Noah ran to her and started to shake her.

"what do you think happened to her?" he asked.

"I dontknow! Its not like I'm her boyfriend or something right?" I scoffed.

"you don't have to be so rude you know" he said as he made the unconscious girl face him.

"oh my god! Eva?...Eva can you hear me?"

" you know her?"

"yeah! She's in my school, we're seat mates"

"ok then! Take her with us... since you know her she wont have a problem" I said as he nodded an dpicked her up. We took her to our shared appartement which was apparently big for just the both of us. Noah took her to the room as I went to take a bottle of alcohol as today was a long day.

"yo Chris! She's sleeping in your bed ok?"

"im sorry what?" I said a little too loud.

" shut up! She's sleeping, and yes she's gonna sleep in your room. She's our guest after all"

"urghh... if you weren't my friend I don't know what I would do to you."

We were sitting in the linving roomand talking about the task we had to complete for our boss. Oh... and if you didn't know, we're gangsters! Mostly just me though, Noh just tags along as he's bored. We grew up homeless until our boss found us and took care of us. When we were 18 he gave us our own appartement and would come to visit us every weekend.

We felt like he was our long lost father but that was until he set up a marriage for me. Some old friend of his had kidnapped a girl and took care of her for 16 years and now he wants meto be married to her. Money really can turn people into monsters. But I refused as I didn't believe in love or marriage.

"e-ema?" we heard a soft voice from my room. Noah looked at me as I stood up to go to the girl.

"ahem" I cleared my throught as I stood behind the girl.

She turned around and was about to scream when I closed her mouth.

"yo crazy girl! We save you from freezing to death you know?" I said until I felt a sharp sting on the hand that covers her mouth.

"aah! She bit me!" I said and glared at Noah wo was just standing there.

"hey Eva! Calm down... You remember me, right?" Noah said.

Noah POV

Hey Eva! Calm down... you remember me, right?" I said nervously.

"umm. No!"

I knew it... I sat next to her but she was never approachable for me. I didn't even really talk to her. Oh god! Chris is definitely going to kill me now.

"wait what? You don't know her?" Chris said with anger.

"yeah! I don't know any of you creeps"

"I sit next to you in school, but we don't really know you. Don't worry we won't harm you. How about you go freshen up and we can have a talk?"

"no I don't have the time! My phone doesn't have battery, but do you have a phone trust me its urgent" she said.

"sure! You can use mine" I said as I handed her my phone. I could feel the intense stare of Chris as I did so.

She dialed a number quickly and put the phone to her ears. the look she had on her face gave away that she was in trouble.

Ema POV

I took the phone from the guy and dialed Ema's number. I couldn't wait any longer as I knew she was in trouble. I felt my breath quicken as the phone started ringing.

"hello? This is Ema... who I- "

"Ema? Just listen to me, I need you to stay away from dad ok?"

"what? What are yo-"

"I'll explain everything to you, just get to the xxx-bus stop"

"ok! Are you okay though?"

"not really! There's a lot that's hard to digest" I said and hung up.

"ok! Now tell me you're names" I said as I took my phone out to take their pictures.

"what are you doing?" the guy asked, I think his name was Noah.

"safety first" I said and took was about to click their photos when the arrogant guy held my hand tightly.

" I'm sorry but I can't let you do that" he said as he stared into my soul, but I stared right back at him.

"why not?"

"cus I said so! Need more explanation?"

"wouldn't mind if I had a more detailed version" I said with a cocky voice. I also know how to be bad.

"umm... guys?" Noah said.

We looked at him confused and realized we were too close. We pushed each other away.

"what's the bastard's name?" I asked Noah.

Chris POV

"Well that's a first!" Noah said.

I can't believe a girl just said that about me. Normally girls are too scared to even talk, I guess she's different. I like it.

"what?" she asked

"my name is Chris, and I think I know you're Eva. Right?" I said I smirked to myself.

"I hope you don't mind if I have my sister over, we'll leave soon, I promise! There's just some things I need to explain to her before we leave." She said ignoring me.

"sure!" Noah said.

I didn't want to argue as I knew he'd convince me somehow. But somehow, I knew there'd be something to look forward to with this girl. Yep, I like her already.

She looked at me and left with a smile plastered on her worried face. I somehow felt it was my duty to protect her.
