It's Complicated

Just like that, time immediately passed. Jamie joined the Drama Club which surprised them since it doesn't look like she is interested in acting.

Mira sighed. She's been trying to avoid Eugine, but she never expected fate to toy with her. She glanced at the boy beside her who is busy arranging books.

What is Eugine doing in here?

She never expected Eugine to become a Library representative. Because of this, her plan to stay away from him was thrown out of the window. How can she avoid him if she sees him everyday? Even their other friends are starting to notice her aversion towards him.

"I'm done here. Do you need help?" Eugine suddenly asked.

Mira almost dropped the book she was holding in surprise. She blinked at him, her heart beating fast; then she shook her head.

"I'm fine. I can do this on my own."

He stared at her for a while before nodding. "Call me if you need help." She watched as he went back to the counter. She sighed. He probably thinks that she is a weirdo but Mira cant do anything about it. She has to stay away from him.

Everytime she feels his presence, her heart couldn't remain calm. And now that his cold treatment towards her is almost gone, she's afraid. The cold Eugine who treated her as if she's non existent is nowhere to be seen, replaced by a guy who treated her with neither coldness or unreasonable warmth. It might not be a big deal, but to her, it is. His little actions of showing concern, his acceptance towards her presence, all of it scares Mira. She was scared that her heart would get swayed again. She was so afraid that the past would repeat and nothing would change. The realization froze her in horror.

When their shift in the library ended, Mira immediately left after bidding a quick goodbye to the other staff. She quickly nodded to Eugine before walking away quickly, her books clutched tightly against her chest.

In her haste to get away, she wasn't looking at where she's going. She ended up bumping into someone, her books falling into the floor.

"Sorry. Are you okay?" a voice asked her while helping to pick up her books. Mira looked up to see the owner of the voice.

Luigi smiled at her. "Are you okay?"

Mira nodded, embarrassed. "Sorry about that."

"Did you have your lunch yet?" Luigi asked.

Mira shook her head. She actually spent her free period in the library. In their class, the lunch break is after their free period. She was on her way to their classroom to drop her books before going to the cafeteria to eat with Jamie. But in her haste to get away from Eugine she took a different route to go to the cafeteria.

"I was actually going to drop my books into the classroom before going."

"Then, do you want to go with me?"

"Huh? Mira started.

Well, its true that she treated him to barbeque last time but to be honest, they were not that close yet even though they are always together in one group. In their group, its like Jamie and Kang Jun is glueing their group together with Jamie and Mira on one side, and with Kang Jun and his group (consisting of Luigi, Eugine and Justin along with Sophie) on the other side.

She doesn't know how to interact with this knight in shining armour yet.

Luigi stopped because of her reaction. He stared at her. "Do you not want to?

"No no, of course not. It's completely fine." Mira defended in panic.

"Oh." he smiled. "Then let's go."

Mira stared at Luigi's back. What's happening with her life so suddenly?

When they got to the cafeteria, Jamie immediately spotted them. "I already bought food for you. You were taking so long. I was afraid that you'll only get leftovers when you arrive. I hope you don't mind." Jamie told her while scooting over to let her sit.

Mira felt touched. "I don't mind, thanks."

She sat down and when she looked up, she accidentally met Eugine's eyes who is sitting in front of her. She immediately looked away.

Eugine noticed her action but didn't say anything. Luigi came back after buying his own food. "What a good friends you are guys, you did not even buy me food. All that was left for me is bean sprouts." he complained to Justin and Kang Jun.

Mira noticed that there's no seat left on the other side so she scooted over so that Luigi can sit.

"Thanks."

Mira only smiled in return.

Luigi looked at her plate and eyed the barbeque then looked back on his own pitiful plate.

Mira hesitantly asked. "Do you want some?"

"Is it okay?"

She nodded. "I don't think I can eat it all anyway." she took one stick of barbeque and put it on Luigi's plate.

Luigi grinned in happiness. It was kind of contagious that Mira ended up grinning too.

Eugine frowned. He didn't know why but the food he's eating suddenly lost its taste. He put down his chopsticks.

"What's wrong Eugine?" beside him, Kang Jun asked.

"I'm full." he said.

Justin eyed his barbeque. "You did not touch that right?"

"No. I didn't. Why?"

"Can I have it?"

Eugine blinked. "Sure."

"You should eat more." Jamie said. "You might not be aware of it, but you're too skinny for a guy."

Eugine looked away and pretended to hear nothing.

Jamie's eyebrows rose. "This punk. How dare you ignore me." she kicked his shin under the table.

"Jamie be nice." Mira unconsciously said.

Jamie just rolled her eyes. "Yeah yeah. I get it."

Mira laughed at her.

While watching them, The corner of Eugine's mouth faintly rose into a smile.

Mira who was laughing suddenly stopped. When is it? When was the last time she saw him smile?

Eugine saw her stop. It was not planned, but their eyes met and neither of them was able to look away for a second. While their eyes are locked to each other, all Mira can think is that:

Its bad.

This is really bad.
