Heart's Demon

'Beeeeeeeeeeeeeepppp!!!'

The incoming car honked, Mira felt as if time froze. She knows that she should move, but for some reasons, her body wouldnt just move.

A hand shot out and grabbed her, then pulled her hard enough that the impact sent her and the one who pulled her into the ground. Mira could almost swear that she felt Death's whisper once again.

"Mira! Are the you okay?!"

She saw Jamie looking at her worriedly. Mira blankly nodded, her heart pounding furiously in her chest.

Jamie sighed in relief. The car that almost hit her stopped and a middle aged man got out from the driver's seat.

He hurriedly went to them. "Miss, are you okay? Were you hurt?"

She shook her head. "Im fine. Im sorry about that."

"Are you sure Miss? We can bring you to the hospital to get checked."

Mira politely declined. It was not the car owner's fault in the first place. "Im really fine. Thank you anyway."

"If that's really the case, then its good. We have to go now, but if you ever felt dizzy or anything because of this, please dont hesitate to call us." The driver then gave her a calling card.

Mira received it and thanked the man. They watched as the car drove away.

"Are you sure you are okay?" Jamie asked once again.

"Yes. Thank you. You just saved my life." She gratefully thanked her. If Jamie didnt pulled her at that last second, Mira was sure that if the impact didn't kill her, it would atleast send her to ICU. She shuddered in fear when she thought of how her second life ticket could have disappeared just like that.

Inside the car, it was silent. Then a clear deep voice spoke. "How is it?"

"The girl seemed to be fine, Sir."

The boy inside didn't answer. He only stared outside the window with earplugs in his ears, his thoughts unreadable. Seeing this, the driver no longer bothered him.

When Mira got home, she immediately put the lemons in the kitchen. She squeezed some of them and brought it upstairs with her to use on her face. She laid on the bed with face mask on.

She cant help it, her mind wandered into the past. In order to change things, she would have to prepare beforehand. Mira sighed, depressed. She removed the face mask and got up; she took a pen and a notebook while rubbing the essence from the facemask on her face.

She bit her lip while thinking; If she wanted to change her past, it means the she will have to anticipate about the major events that she have to change. Mira racked her brain about the things that she remembers and then listed them down in her notepad. She stayed up late trying to complete it.

That night, Mira wasn't able to sleep very well. Maybe because she spent the night trying to remember the past, she found herself back in her most painful memory. In her memory, she and that person was separated by a layer of glass. He was visiting her for the last time, in prison. She cried and cried while begging, but than man only stared at her with his cold dark eyes. Those eyes that she loves above all, even in the moments that it was glaring at her coldly. Mira shivered in her sleep. Everything replayed in her mind once again, Including the moment that the man said to her; "I wished I've never met you."

Mira opened her eyes in panic. She sat up, trying to remember where she was, but her mind couldn't calm down. All she can hear is the last words that he told her. Then, hot tears started streaming down her face.

Why?

Why?

Why couldn't you love me?

What more do I have to do?

Why? Why? Why?

The same questions kept on repeating in her mind. She clutched her chest in pain. She felt as if her heart was being shredded in pain that she could no longer stop herself from sobbing. All the pain that she kept inside her heart seems to be forcefully trying to get out to remind her of everything that she lost and couldnt have. She thought she can all forget it and start anew, but her heart cruelly reminded her of the things she could never forget. Its hard to run from everything when everything about yourself yearns for the things that causes you heartache. Mira bit her lips to stop herself from crying but the tears just wont stop. The more that she tries to stop it, the more painful it was for her.

Why?

In the darkness, a girl silently wept.
